anyone UK based bought from Mister Worker and what the duty rate is if you buy tools from the EU?
tried getting through to a chat advisor on HMRC with no success
I’ve bought from them.

The duty rate on most tools seems to be 2%. But… that only kicks in at £135, and that does not apply to imports from the E.U.

So buying from Mister Worker they will charge you “ex VAT” but you will have VAT added on arrival.

Some EU retailers are signed up to a scheme where for orders less than £135 you just pay including local VAT, and there’s nothing to add, but it really makes no difference.

The new PB Swiss “Swissgrip Evo” drivers seem to be arriving.

They have changed the colours of the Philips (and Pozidriv) handles, presumably to align with the colours / sizes of the slotted ones.

Am I the only one who wishes they would colour code the driver type rather than the size. I know they have the colour coded caps for that, but I can see different sizes at a glance. I really want to be able to tell slotted from Torx from Philips from Pozidriv (particularly the latter) quickly.

Any brands doing a straight 300mm pruning saw with holster?

I've found this G-Man 343H12PS made in Sweden (seems legit despite the unswedish name), but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere. I like the sharp handle angle and nook at the bottom.

All others I've found are made in China, either to a brand design or rebranding generic models.

Have you looked at Bahco
Yes. After some further internet rummaging, seems they are/were made in France. My bow saw was Portugal.

I hadn't, but thanks... of course it seems obvious in hindsight but pull saw ===> Japan.

Now found what I wanted, from Samurai of Japan. Also I changed my mind and went for a curved blade.

Other European brands I looked at, for future reference:
  • Berger
  • Felco
  • Fiskars
  • G-Man
  • Husqvarna
  • Stihl
Not all of those are made in Europe, and it will vary by model. Felco 630 for example is South Korea.

Bought this M&W 1” to 2” caliper today at the local flea market. I had never heard of M&W, the vendor said it was from England I believe he said? I bought it to use, but I will see what I can find out about it on the world wide web

Moore & Wright were the UK’s equivalent of Starrett, although Starrett also has manufacturing facilities in the UK.
At one point, I think when Brown & Sharpe were shut down due to a long union strike, and maybe afterward, Moore & Wright were manufacturing tools that were sold under the Brown & Sharpe brand.
I’m not sure what M&W products are still manufactured in the UK still, if any.
The older tools seemed to be high quality.

Really tempted by these (180mm size). Are they much easier to adjust compared to Knipex?
i tried them with nitrile gloves, mechanics gloves and leather gloves. Can´t see much difference. However if you wear winter gloves, welder gloves etc. you might want to go with Hazet.
Thank you for all the euro tool information you’ve shared over the years.
Thanks. You´re welcome :)
I think the trays Tekton sells are LBoxx imports.
i believe so

Well the normal body color across all sizes is red, and then there are different caps for the driver type. The rainbow editions are not the standard color

That is true!

And the different colour caps are better than nothing, especially the new ones which are more visible from the side.

But I still wish they would give me the option of different colour handles for different tips, rather than different sizes!

Whenever I see MEB on tools I immediately think of the Midlands Electricity Board which existed as a public sector electricity supplier from post WW2 up to privatisation in 1990. :)

Seconded!

Do you have to make much of an effort in Germany to find the items a) exist, and b) for sale? Or are they easily available in common shops/online for anyone who wants that thing, that has no particular preference for local goods? I guess especially tools by small/medium brands, or consumables.

Brands like Knipex, Wera, Stabila, Halder, Picard, WGB, Matador, Wiha, Bessey etc. are readily available in various big box stores (Bauhaus, Obi, Hornbach, Toom, Hagebau, Globus etc.). Brands like Hazet, Stahlwille, Kukko, Gedore, VBW, NWS are usually available at specialised shops (Automotive, construction stores). However certain Bauhaus stores carry a few Hazet items for example, often tools are available rebadged (NWS for example). To buy the vast majority online is not a problem. There are some brands which are difficult to get like Athlet, Krenn, Bernstein, Ideal, Wekador, USH, MHG, Wezag.... some offline and some online too.

added a new storage cabinet for car parts:

How it feels in hand the new model "Swissgrip Evo"? Also, it cleans better?

Any known European sellers of Halder and Picard that ship internationally? I know about Mister Worker already.

The distributor in my country only offers very limited ranges of them.

Got the big brother too now. What an amazing hammer design! The metal cap is properly hardened and seems to be extremely durable. Blows are confident and precise. And they seem to really do the job, to get the force into the work as needed.

I used to think there's not much to hammers. Biit these definitely make me feel more confident when striking.

What's it better for and do you tend to use it for? Striking metal tools?
I work a lot on older motorcycles. I had the smaller PB 304.3 for a while and it is very handy for getting out stuck axles or bushings or pins or screws. Where a regular hammer would rivet it, this spreads the impact and instead seems to make it move. Also for taking apart covers or engine blocks, slight taps make the gaskets loosen up and it feels way less violent than a regular hammer (of course with the plastic cap for that).

Not entirely sure what the use will be for the big one. I did notice with the small one, if I want to bend things in the vise, these leave less of a direct mark but still move steel when you hammer with them.

I'm sure the soft face is going to see more use. But I rather have a metal side in case I need it, than two plastic sides...

The second tool is a mini Band-It--or similar knock-off.

Oetiker clamps are also used for boots. For occasional use, Oetikers are going to be much cheaper. I prefer to use the proper tool for installing them, but a pair of end-cutter pliers will work for most things.

First time I see Wiha use Poland for manufacturing.

Poland has made huge investment in manufacturing capability, so not a bad thing.

Just a change to pay attention to.
I am certain made in Poland is common for many Wiha products for many years now.
