I guess the 200 series is the successor of the acetate handle drivers. I personally would buy the 500 or 550 series. More difficult to clean though but feel better in my hands.

@Moose:

www.faithfulltools.com

They have at least 10 dealers in London:
http://www.toolbank.com/r/find/London

But you can´t go wrong with Knipex or NWS :)
ps: why the small 160/165mm size ?

Monte, would you say that Knipex and NWS are same in quality?

I don´t know - i don´t have any long time experience with NWS and I´m only a hobby user. So i don´t know how long the cutting edges and teeth etc. will hold up. But you see NWS quite often rebranded (Lux, E-Top, Felo, Walther, Padre, Matador, Berner, Projahn, Klauke, Phoenix Contact etc.) so they can´t be that bad. :) I personally probably would buy what is easier to get and to warranty.

I once performed a cutting test and the subjective result was that the NWS pliers made the 1st place. The cutting edges are very sharp and there is virtually no recoil because of the thick handles.

qpqp008.jpg

But your results may vary since i only have 1 pair of each pliers so i cannot say if they all perform the same.

but there are also other good pliers out there :)

ps: why the small 160/165mm size ?

I've bought a pair of Knipex off eBay, will see how i like them but i may also get an NWS pair from quattrojon some time. I have a large set of NWS combination pliers he sent me and they're extremely nice, love 'em and wouldn't trade them for anything else.

the short size is useful for me for lots of things. One of which is fitting brake caliper anti-rattle clips, i like to use the best-fitting tools for my hands where possible. Small hands, so small pliers are good for me. :)

Would you say that Knipex and NWS are same in quality?

I'd say NWS are as good if not slightly better, in my limited experience with them. Their side and end cutters are amazingly sharp and very well made. I really like NWS pliers.

My Stahlwille 721 Manskop torque wrench finally arrived. My Craftsman will probably get relegated to the mobile tool chest...

The Stahlwille definitely has that solid, quality feeling to it!

Some other random toolbox pics...posted only because I don't know anywhere else where there are people who would appreciate them. :)

I have a few of the blue Wiha 3-K series screwdrivers and I really like the handle. I knew these came in different colors but did not know till now that these came in a lot of colors or is this for Wisent rebrand only?

Anybody have the color coding info?

Thanks for the pics Monte.

:D ... i knew.... but luckily you only collect blue tools :D ;)

Anyone know of a source in the states for non rebounded Grip-on pliers? I've been looking for the orange coated ones with out any luck.

try http://www.angloamericantools.com/ the distributor in the USA.

I don´t know, the 3-K handled drivers doesn´t appear in the german Wiha catalog at all, so it seems they use this handle here only for rebadged products. The "Wisent" scredrivers come in slotted (red), PZ (blue), PH (yellow), Torx (green) VDE/Insulated (red/yellow), and stainless steel (grey)
The Wiha drivers in the US are all blue/black i think.

That shop is awesome Monte, I wish there were more places in the UK that offered walk-in good brands off the shelf.

germany isn´t too far away for shopping :D

I visited the "Max Bahr" store and took some pics.
They mostly sell "Stanley" and "Bahr" products so i didn´t take many pics because you have enough Stanley over there :) and "Bahr" tools are not really worth to take a pic :D :)

I dont know if its just me Monte, but I cant see your latest pics.

A heads up for the UK guys, B&Q (at least my local, Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff) are selling NWS VDE stuff at about half price. Just picked these up for around £10 each. Annoyingly, the waterpump pliers I got a week or so back are now down to £18! I was trying to justify a second set but couldnt think of a reason!

af40d638.jpg

They are a bit dusty, so I guess these are a slow moving line, hence the price. The USA Channellock stuff also had reductions, about 1/3 I think. There were some 18" (I think) waterpump pliers that I might pick up, under £20 I think.

Monte, is the bauhaus strictly a tool store, or is it a auto parts place as well?
what ever it is, it look's amazingly fun to go to.

It is similar to a home depot or lowes.

Personally, not being a wera fan, I prefer the OBI store.

Are there photos of this obi store. I have never been to a store that has a selection of hand tools like that, I want to see more.

Monte, you spoke of chanellock before, i was wondering what other U.S. tools are sold there, for instance, klein, crescent, channellock, hell what about craftsmen.

I purchased my first knipex recently and can not be any more happy with them, the only other german tools i have are stabilia, festool and fein ,i have one lone 3/8 drive 10 mm allen hazzet. I like the way they are installed in the drive compared to my mac set, they has slop and held in by a pin.

@Vinko

i once had a pair of Carhartt trousers, they´re pretty good because of the double layer of cloth. Lasted a long time (but not used as work pants though :) )

There are a couple of well known work clothes "manufacturers" next to Blakläder here in Europe, but i don´t know if they still produce here, in most cases i think not: Fristads www.fristads.com , Kansas www.kansas.dk/int/ , Wenaas www.wenaasusa.com , Bierbaum Proenen www.bp-feelthedifference.de , Snickers www.snickersworkwear.com , Helly Hansen www.hhworkwear.com ,Planam www.planam.de , FHB www.fhb.de , Rofa www.rofa.de

Monte: Carhartt's USA made brand with the double knee are durable, but for the summer, those Blakader's are a lot easier to wear in the heat. And so far, worth what I paid. I picked up catalogs from Fristad and one of the other places, Rofa, I think, and am checking them out. I wear through work clothes quick, so if I can buy good stuff, and buy a whole week's worth in one go, I'm good.

I started a thread a couple of weeks ago, asking what the US guys bought as workwear.

Must've missed it. I made up a bunch of Dickie's shirts for all the guys in my shop to wear a few years ago. Time for some new ones. Was looking for something USA made, but it's hard to find a quality workshirt still made here.

Monte: I can see some of your pics now, others half load then the remainder is grey. It changes each time I view the thread too. Maybe its just my internet connection!

Also, do you know if Stahlwille make socket rails? Im sure I've seen some green ones than stand the sockets up as opposed to the simple metal clip rails, but I cannot remember who makes them!

Yep monte has pics on page 128. OBI is the store with all the Lux branded tools.

I actually stopped at both a Bauhaus and OBI a few weeks ago while I was on vacation in Vienna. The OBI also carried witte which I really liked.

Anyone know who carries the German made tools metioned in this thread in the British Columbia,Canada, LowerMainland? Maybe KMS?
Thanks
scarrylarry

KMS has a so-so selection of Wera screwdrivers and they also introduced Knipex into their offerings earlier this year.
You can try Felo at CTF supplies.
If you want NWS, contact Gary Robertson at DG MacLachlin in Burnaby (604-294-6000)

You can also try these two stores for Grip-On Pliers, Knipex, and perhaps other German/EU products:
