I went looking to see how GearWrenches are built and found a bunch of patent diagrams. Scroll down the page on the link and there are several ratchet patents. Gedore came up with the brilliant idea to build a ratchet wrench like a ratchet!

I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison with other ratcheting wrenches to see which ones have smaller heads, and which ones can handle the most torque.

Interesting stuff. I'll probably understand it too when the cotton-in-head inducing fever goes away. Man...

Zum Beispiel, bottle opener. Made from the high grade titanium, leftovers of course.

Someone might assume that it's not a tool, maybe, but not in Russia

 it looks relly nice!
Actually I know some places where a bottle opener is an essential tool to keep the factory running :bounce:

Knipex strippers are "made in germany" while the Pressmaster tools are "made in sweden". There are some differences in design etc. (metal jaws on the Knipex tool vs. plastic on the Pressmaster, pressure adjuster on the Pressmaster tool, slightly different lower handle design + joint design etc.)

I have the Facom version (since 1 year), called "Swingo", used it again this afternoon and still not convinced, for 75euros I wish I would have bought a regular automatic cable stripping plier...

@Cantause:
no question, Facom makes pretty (nice) tools, i was a big fan of Facom too, all their tools look nice (except maybe the extra long "40LA" series combo wrenches) but now since i can´t buy the "France" anymore i dont see paying their prices. The tools will work no question, the warranty seems to be good etc. but for me there is something "lost", the "identity"....

I totally agree with you, Facom is clearly overpriced now, they're destroying a well earned reputation, a pity... I bought my "basic" tools from them because I liked the design, actually except the ratchet and sockets they're almost all made in France (I bought some NOS on ebay). It's getting so hard to know which tool was made in France that I consider to go east and buy Gedore :bounce:

However, I finally found (on ebay.de) my first combination wrench set! Facom (I know...) 40 series, made in France. I wasn't totally convinced by the 440 serie, I'm sure they're stronger and more ergonomic but I didn't like the finish and, most important, the ends are thicker than the 40 serie. I got 2 sets, 7-24 OGV (the one out of the bags) and 7-32 non OGV (still in the bags, I'm not sure I'm gonna keep them).
I think it's Facom at its pinacle, no bling-bling, smooth curves, excellent satin finish and nice stamping, no sharp edges, easy to clean

Since I'm off topic I'll keep this really short, but I saw some of you had interest in bottle openers. Atwood Knife and Tool has made a sort of specialty out of creative bottle openers that have useful tool functions, check them out. This is the one I carry on a daily basis...

Nothing new there. Been done and offered under different brands, just that the mechanism incorporates a 72-tooth or higher gear.

So, I gather that the Gedore has a lower tooth count than the conventional, modern rat. wrench. We all agree on that right?
Their promotional advertisement mentions that their mechanism has minimal backlash....as opposed to most other conventional, modern rat. wrenches out there. It'be interesting to compare the working angle with some typical Lea Way produced (Danaher Taiwan (GearWrench)), and a Kabo made one. I find the Kabo has the least amount of backlash.

EDIT: Cantause,

RE: current Facom
I think we can all blame Stanley for taking over Facom. :D

And oh, I haven't used my GreenLee branded Pressmaster much, but I sure love it over my previous version auto wire stripper. ....and can't complain especially at the price I got it for.

Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie!!!!

Now I need to find some Facom 40's

I like my 440's but I love the old style made in France Facom

I like the 440 for their "innovative" design but I really don't understand why they made a sharp edge at the fork end...:headscrat, it's also a pity that they're thicker than the 40, I guess it was nice to gain strenght but....

For those who want some Facom 40's, this ebay seller in Germany still have some 7 wrenches set (7-19) for 33 euros (sometimes on sale +16 shipping), it's a big shop so you may be interrested in buying other tools and save on shipping...
Nice Ruko's. I've been looking at those myself.
I bought mine for 40 euros on ebay.de (the set) which is fair if they're good quality, at least they look like, time will tell...
If you want to save money, look on ebay.de, I see them quite often on auction and german sellers are always willing to send their stuff abroad, even if it's mentioned Germany only.

Which one and why ?? Whats wrong with this one ?

Thanks for the COO and trying to contaminate me with Gedore :)
Actually I haven't seen any recent Gedore tool, but from the pictures, satin finish seems 'coarser" than Facom's, I'd like to see how it feels with my hands, maybe with a small set of their new ratcheting wrenches...

I was talking about the Facom Swingo strip plier, here is what I don't like compared to a traditional lateral automatic strip plier:
-Tear the sleeve (part not in contact with the blade) and cut some wires of the cable.
-Tuning is time and sometime cable (especially small ones) consuming when you use different cable sizes at each strip (usually what I do when re-wiring a motorcycle).
-Can't do "mono-wire" cable (at least from 1,5 mm2).

I prefer the traditional type, I agree it doesn't fit in tight spaces, which is quite useful sometimes and need some practice to choose quickly the right hole on the blade, I'll give a try to this one:
42358489.jpg

or this one for cut and strip in one take (but I'm a bit scared by Facom's "do it all" tools now)
42358487.jpg

EDIT: Cantause,

RE: current Facom

Yup, you didn't rescue France on this one:bounce:
However I can't remember if the production already moved to asia before Facom was bought by Stanley (I was a bit young) or if it really started with Stanley (I mean with big factory shut down in France), could someone tell me?

Is the ratcheting mechanism on the Gedore also made in Germany?

i dont know - i guess yes. When they can make they own gears/pawls for their ratchets, then for the wrenches too i think.

on this pic if you look at number 9 you can also see the production steps at least from the "ring"

They feel like the Facom wrenches but sand blasted and then plated :)

Didn´t have problems with cutting wires of the cable with my pliers (Knipex/Jokari type). The sides of the insulation is ripped off where the blade don´t cut thats right. They´re automatically adjusting though. I was thinking of the "Weidmüller" pliers which looks like the "Swingo" but instead of 2 blades it has like 30 or 40 (?) tiny blades which eventually also cut the sides of the insulation. Or take a plier with automatic adjustment like the Knipex Multistrip 10, maybe it won´t cut the wire itself (but probably will still rip the sides of the insulation)

Somewhere here in this thread i posted a press release (or "investor relation" PDF) from Stanley were they said which plants, distribution centers etc. should be closed and how many people were laid off.

ps: here something for you on ebay.de :)

monte do you have a set of gearwrench to compare the gedores to?

I only own a set from Gedore probably made by HiFive and a stubby set from Beta probably made by Infar. No original Gearwrench (difficult to find here). Since i collect 13mm combination wrenches i will add a original 13mm Gearwrench or rebadged Gearwrench tool (Kraftwerk e.g.) as well as the new Gedore + Hazet etc. ratcheting wrenches to the collection to make a comparison later this year.

Just found a new Flex polisher ! Flex POLISHFLEX PE 14-2 150

no experience with them. I doubt that you will find "Germany" on them. The manufacturer of the Elora ratcheting wrenches is "Chang Loon" i think.
If you look at the Elora catalog and their reversible wrenches i think you will find this

So it depends if you can get the "Elora" wrenches for a good price or if there is not a better offer from Gearwrench or Draper etc. (or if you want the "Elora" name on the tools)

I thought they may be imported. The pictures i've seen show no country of origin mark which is disappointing. I really like Elora tools so it would be nice to have these to match, but if they're not from Germany i'll go with Gearwrench as they're cheaper. :(

I bought this Stahlwillie 3/8" flex head at the flea market. Very unusual to find something like this at the flea I go to. Looks like it was made out of Legos.

I think that´s just their adress... "Idstein, Germany" or so...
There are also Hitachi + Makita drills with Röhm chucks...
Which model is you Dewalt drill ? DCD925B2 ? If it´s the DCD925 you can click here and then click on the part numbers to see the country of origin of each individual part of your drill.

For hammered paint you can try Hammerite but the green is darker -> http://www.hammerite.co.uk/products/ps_metalmaster_paint.html

Thanks !
yes it´s too dark unfortunately. On ebay i found this green from "Büchner":
I think I´ll get a can of this to paint my 125mm + the new 150mm vise
