I'm thinking of getting a set of stahlwille 13 combis in metric to complement my AF 14s. I've been measuring my current import metric set, and the 13s are quite a bit shorter, even though my imports aren't 'long'. Could anyone with 13s, or maybe both, comment on their length. I dong want to buy a set of 13s and then feel handicapped by their length, but they buying 14s individually will cost a lot more!

I wish this stuff was more avaliable in the UK!

It is, you just need to know the right people. ;)

There are lots of people selling Stahlwille on eBay. Send a message to one of the big sellers and ask them if they can get you what you're after. I've asked before and they were happy to help supply things on special order.

It's a darn sight more available than in New Zealand!

Yeah, but it's nice where you live so it evens out!

Hey moose. I can get most stuff locally but it's always at retail list price. I'll have to check eBay more. Do you find it at a lower price? Thanks for your help :)

I wish I'd bid on that 1/4 set you got off eBay a while back :p

@Moose:

Since Matador didn´t email back i called them today. So 56 minutes later :) unfortunately they told me that they don´t have a distributor in the UK for a while now.... their USA distributor is also gone... So the only way would be to email dealers or ask stores to offer Matador tools so maybe through this way they can find a new distributor or buy it here in germany...
There are a couple of online shops in .de so if you could tell me what you are looking for maybe i can help you.

ebay.de: http://stores.ebay.de/Werkzeuge-und...0QQ_sidZ1007934654?_nkw=matador&submit=Finden

regular store of the ebay shop: http://www.handwerksausruester.prag...0000009a65106534d/0000009b6710b004a/index.php

"Matador Hits" special promo prices: http://www.handwerksausruester.prag.webspace24.de/shop/0000009a660abee05/0000009c3e0af31e2/index.php

another store: http://www.autolackierbedarf.de/default/90/72/0/0/module-fuer-werkstattwagen.html

They should have almost the complete program: http://www.tecmatador.eu/

Thank you. :)

This is what i'm after:

http://www.tecmatador.eu/product_info.php/info/p1595_Tuerverkleidungs-Loesewerkzeug.html

I have the VAG T10236 trim removal tool made by Matador and it's the best i've used, so i want more! :D

it still works ? :D ;)

Of course! It's a little slow but it works very well. I have no complaints about it so far. :)

Check out Stahlwille's website?
Combi #13 sizes

Sometimes the length can be a curse, too, and not to mention, the greater chances of over-torquing the fasteners with the extra leverage of the extra-long versions. :)

@Sharkin,

Nice photo of the SROV-made pliers. :thumbup:
That 3-sided scraper has proved handy for me on a couple occassions, enlargening/deburring holes in plastics.
What's the third one used for?

I must admit I don't have a huge experience of different brand wrenches so the 14s have never felt particually long to me in the short sizes, and in the sizes around 1 inch the size felt nice. That said, the 13s do seem 'normal' length. They work out about £70 for an 8-19mm set, so I think I'll give them a go come payday. The snap on man seemingly couldn't care less about my orders so happy to try some more stahlwille stuff :)

I've seen a great looking hazet set of, I think, 6-27mm. I wish I used metric enough to justify that set and it's cost!

On the same subject got these for free some time ago, they are sold by Suki International and not that different from the ones you posted.
Edit: Found some Orbis exactly like the ones above, I guess they're Orbis :D

yes i think so ;)
"Kraftwerk" also offer NWS pliers, and "Sonic Equipment" from Taiwan too...

nice vietnamese Wiha pliers :D and Beta scrapers !!! Reminds me to get me one of these "spoon" scrapers

@american lockpicker:
wow :shocking: 130 Euros :shocking:
Hopefully it pays off !

@bcjames:
Sorry only have a couple of the 14 series. Why not get the 14s ?
I have a set of Hazet 600 combi wrenches which are similar in length like the Stahlwille 14 series. In most cases i have no problem using them. I have shorter wrenches though (Hazet open end + flat box) but barely use them. A comparison: 13mm combination Stahlwille 14 series 195mm long, 13mm 600 series Hazet 193mm long, 12x13mm open end Hazet 172mm long, 12x13mm open end Stahlwille 170mm long, 13mm Stahlwille 13 series 160mm long, 12x13mm flat double box Stahlwille 21 series 150mm, 12x13mm flat double box Hazet 610N series 139mm long.

So I personally would buy a "long" set (Stahlwille 14 e.g.) for all normal use. For tight spaces i would get a set of open end and/or box wrenches (Stahlwille Motor 10/Stahlwille STABIL 21) or look for other brands like Elora which are also easier to get, a 6pc. open end wrench set from Elora cost only about 30 pounds. Moose has combination wrenches from them, maybe this would be another option. The Stahlwille 13series are somehow "in between" not really long but also not really short (like the Hazet 610N or Stahlwille 21).

@sick puppy:
lol ok :)

@Moose:
ah ok ! Is the short one too short or just to have the other one too ? :) Already have it ? I could try to order it through the local dealer here but shipping to you will be 5.45€ (if below 500 grams + incl. insurance)

I just reread my previous post and it wasn't very well constructed! Anyway, 13s work out at £7 each, 14s at list are about 50%+ more, since I cant find a set, only individually. As moose suggested to me, I'll try contacting some stahlwille sellers on eBay :)

Just to have another one. We do interior upholstery at work too so we use trim tools a lot. I have about 6 but you can never have too many!

Can you also get Esgen tools? I also want their 12101-90 trim tool with the angled tip. It appears the same basic design as the Matador tool.

eg12101-90.jpg

If you can get these i will be happy to pay whatever shipping costs and whatever fee you desire too. :)

Thank you.

Why do mechanics need insulated tools?

For work on electrical stuff. Electric vehicles and Hybrid vehicles, for electric installations to make sure that if someone accidentally switch the power on you are protected. Even for household installation, again to be safe. So for everything above the deadly 42 Volts.

Most of my pliers are insulated. I like the chunkier handles. Also, it means I only need one set for pretty much anything I'll encounter, automotive or about the home. I'm no pro mechanic, maybe I'd have both if I was :D

Wiha "MagicRing" or Bondhus would be another option. (has anybody experience with them ?? How long does the plastic holder from Bondhus last ?)

369R_S9.jpg

I have the Wiha Magic ring in both sets in metric and SAE. The ring is awesome. It does hold the the fastner on there really well. Best hex keys I've bought. I got both sets for $20 from sears on clearance. Can't beat that!

Turning the faster at an angle works well too. No slop and you can feel it's a quality tool. I must hand it the Germans between Knipex, Wiha, Wera and those BMWs they make some quality stuff. Forgot to mention franziskaner hefeweizen too.

Monte, I'm in the market for some sets of various combination, needle nose, snap-ring, linesman pliers etc. Any opinions on brands to look for. I'm really liking the NWS pliers but may go Knipex since the cobra pliers I bought are just so impressive.

What i definately would buy from Knipex would be Cobras, pliers wrench and the snap-ring pliers with piano wire inserts. (+ Co-Bolt pliers).
The other tools are comparable - depends on which design you like more i guess. I would give NWS a try, if you don´t have already found a dealer you could contact Mark Seizer from Hipa Tools

Then they had what i thought was a good price on a snap-ring pliers set:

And this is something i probably don't need at all, but i like the look of this wrench type...

Now my wallet should just hope i don't find a store with Knipex and Wera at german prices!

I thought the Taiwanese owned the patents for the ratcheting mechanism. Are these Gedore wrenchratchet German made all the way?

The wrenches explicitly say "Made in Germany". Gedore uses their own gear design from their "U-20" ratchets.

@SPV:
yes they´re. (Don´t know about the Stahlwille 6554 water pump pliers, I think they´re made by Tracht -Odenthal.
Do you have more pics ?? Are these the old style with solid green handles or the new green/black ones ?

Thanks for the note Monte. I can take some more photos. These are the newer green/black handled versions. I note that the "super long" nose pliers look to still have the straight green handles. I have a new set arriving next week. The quality is at least as good as my Knipex. They are "tight" with no noticable play. So far I have been very impressed with Stahlwille/VBW :)

Nice adj. wrench! reminds me, I need to take a pic of my bahco packaging too. interesting that "JH Williams..." is on the packaging too.

oh, and removal of the orange button requires a 3hp die grinder and carbide bur bit.
