I just came across this today... appears to be hand forged in japan... and as someone who enjoys working with wood I have to say this is beautiful... it is made from damascus steel, which some of you may know was used in parts of europe, the middle east, and asia for over a millenium and is pretty rare and amazing... read up on it sometime... anyway check this out:

works of art !!!!!!

Now if only we could have a few screwdrivers made from that stuff huh? :lol_hitti

now that would be cool !!!!!!!!!
but too expensive i guess...

Dowidat with a brass "hammer head" brazed to one end.
Also stamped with national stock number: 4933 01 033 8324
Bought it couple years back at a local army surplus store, had 6 or 7 in a box for 1.00 each.
All of them had the brass "hammer" attached.

Interesting !!!! What is this tool used for ??

Robust made by Gedore, but in Chrome Steel, don't Vanadium. Good price, medium quality.

Thank you for the information !!!

Haaa, interesting. ...but they don't look exactly the same though, correct?

I don´t know, i don´t have any of the U-20 ratchets... (yet :) ) But i will find out :D
The drawing looks a bit different though

yeah , or they were referring their statement to the old "Kastar" style wrenches... ?

Now that's a fair comparison for sure.

yup :D

the 90 tooth ones ?

Yeah, both the 90 (EZ-red spline) and 72-tooth (Crescent and KTC 12-pt versions).

unforunately i never saw them over here... :(

yeahhhh but only slightly you can still buy them Unfortunately i don´t own a torque screwdriver, otherwise i could measure the drag.
Unfortunately i think that we won´t see more different "gear wrenches" from them. They offered the 2 imported wrench styles for several years, but didn´t offer flex heads, double-box etc. so don´t know if they now will make them on their own.....? I think the market here is not so big, i think companies wouldn´t outfit all their mechanics with like 3 or 4 different kinds (or even more) of "gear wrenches", and also the private user seem not to buy too many of these wrenches, some big box stores don´t even carry ratcheting wrenches, some stores yes but mostly 1 style, some have "Proxxon" and offer the combi version and double box ratcheting. At prices like 17.99€ for a 13mm Stanley ratcheting wrench it is also not very tempting for the consumer to buy these wrenches...
ps: Gedore offers 4 styles through their "Carolus" brand
http://www.tbs-aachen.de/Ringratsche...essel_c442.htm

Interesting to know that, Monte. I guess there's something about the North American garage junkies' psyche that makes them want to have the largest toolbox, oufitted with all the variations available for purchase. It's a generalization, but I'm guessing it's the opposite for the Europeans and Japanese?

I don´t know much about Japan but over here the general consumption is lower compared to the US. The average german household saves about 11.2 or 11.3% of the monthly income, in the US IIRC it was like 1% or lower. This might be a reason, another is the availability, "Gearwrench" basically is non existent over here so you can´t buy all the different wrenches. Probably not to compete with their customers like "Kraftwerk", so you can buy several kinds of "Gearwrench" tools from "Kraftwerk" but the consumer probably also don´t want to spend 100€ for a set of type "A" wrenches another 100 for a set type "B", 100.- for type "C" , 100.- for...... Since in most cases you have to do with maybe sizes like 8,10,13,17,19mm so that´s what the customer then buys but maybe just one type of wrench because they will more think about the most reasonable way to get the jon done.
Looking through the "Factory Gear" magazine you`ll also see no excessive amount of ratcheting wrenches (ok i only have 2 mags...), mostly one kind ,sometimes not even a complete set just a few (probably what they need for the specific job like 10,12,14mm etc.) or none at all (if i looked right) What did surprise me is the disorder in the boxes showed in the mag. I thought that they have orderly laid-out all tools with a pair of white gloves in every drawer :))) or use plastic trays or foam inserts. That really surprised me... I always thought they´re the "german asians" :)

Can you take a side-by-side pic of the edges?

I tried to capture it in this pics:

The old style looks very nice too though !!!

gedore054.jpg

How much wider is the new wrench?

The old wrench has a box width of 25.53 mm, the new 26.08 mm

Picked these up today.

How do you like it ?

Mine were $50

$50 ? Dollar ? American Dollar ?? :D ?? :Homer: doh ! :)
ps: Do you have a Cobra or NWS QuattroGripp ??

Found this hand sander once at the Samstagsales website and had to have one :) Didn´t know before finding it at the site that we still make something like that over here :)

Haven't used it yet but its very easy to adjust compared to Craftsman ones.

Nope also as I was checking out the thought occurred to me that maybe I would be better off with a pair of Knipex(which seem better made and cost a lot less...) After I get the other pair they have I'll try some Knipex Cobras. :)

I want one of those. :) Damn they want paypal.

From their site:
"If you are happy with the total, you can usually pay with personal check, company check, cashier's check, money order, American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or pay with PayPal. For some orders over $700.00 and some special order items we require payment by bank wire transfer or Cashiers Check.
"

This Knipex Cobra has a similar functionality (VDE/Insulated version ONLY)
like the Bahco pliers:

or give HIPA Tools a call and order the NWS QuattroGripp pliers:
Also a similar functionality like the Bahco pliers:

All the gedore tools look awesome; they are very expensive however... "Gedoretools", can you tell us who the market is in the USA for this brand at this time? Is there a push to try to get into the USA marketplace more? I can see targeted industries like aerospace and wind power! Tell us more about Gedore... here in the USA! :) As if German tools are hard enough to find in the USA (aside from wiha, knipex and to a lesser degree wera); Gedore seem very scarce..... are they trying to change this? Any insight appreciated! :)

I only played with it at a fair, i like the idea that you just have to slide the jaw to the workpiece. Fast and easy !!! I only own a NWS version like that but still have my Cobras which i will not give away :) I use it since several years so i have no problems pushing the button and releasing it or pushing it again to adjust it to the right size. Not as fast but I´m only a hobby mechanic so i have 24hrs. time :D

Hello everyone. We'll be adding the 7 R and 7 UR models to the website in the next few days. They're will also be a 30% discount on select 7R and 7UR models, so stay tuned!

Is it a regular adjustable plier or is it a "push button" plier ? The joint looks strange :)

I'm not sure what your source is, regarding the % in savings, but the most recent investment report from my bank mentioned that the Canadians, for the first time, are now behind the Americans when it comes to saving their money. :lol_hitti

When I went on my trip to Europe I hardly came across a store that sold ratcheting wrenches. When I did, it was just the standard length combi style in either non-rev. or reversible.
Perhaps a good percentage of tool users in Europe still view them as being gimmicky tools(?), like how many North Americans viewed them things over the past several years (I think they've slowly gained nation-wide acceptance over here...and hence, the variety is abundant, and with that comes the public's wants/needs to purchase the different types).

Regarding the FG mags...
Gotta remember that they have to carefully select which tool box/mechanics they want to feature. It's only one magazine per year, so they ought to make sure it's entertaining for the reader. Perhaps they just haven't featured that mechanic/tool box that fits that "German-Asian" theme. :)

These may just take the place in my toolbox set aside for PB Swiss. The fact that they have a square drive makes them so much more useful than a standard screwdriver. These are a "must have" in my book.

I finally sold my Snap-on cabinet and purchased this one. Although not the 179BIG, it is still very nice for my growing tool collection :rocker:. I received it today after a short wait. Both the HAZET and Snap-on are very good quality, but I give the edge to Hazet. The wood top is simply beautiful.

It was shipped upside down :headscrat

Monte,

How is this IR impact Gun. Would you recommend it for the general commercial service use around the shop. I was planning to get several 231C but this is also on the short list. I wonder if it would be a better choice since it is only a few dollars more.

Thanks a lot.

If thats still being made in Sweden do you know where I can get a new one at?

No, no new being made in Sweden. The current one to get should be a 221D, which is 113mm. COO of that i don't know, but probably France or Spain.

Is it a regular adjustable plier or is it a "push button" plier ? The joint looks strange :)

It's a slip joint style. The strange look is probably because of the size. The joint was only big on one side, the other side was flat. Worked great for tightening chassis connectors in small boxes.

So it's already time to replace my 900s? Ok :) Does these have a new item nr?

@TjoFrasse

Interesting joint on those pliers. I wonder what the vintage is.

I'll try to remember to ask that. It was quite old and worn at least, the joint was quite sloppy.

I have to take some more pictures. I have acquired several new HAZET tools since then :bounce:. I use the HAZET 173 more as a stationary toolbox and my HAZET 166 as the mobile unit. I place the necessary tools on the 166 and move it close to the car I am working on. I have a regular 2 car garage so that works very well for me :).

They are not cheap, but they are very well made . I paid roughly half of the list price. I sold a Snap-On box to cover the cost.
