Are you crazy??? After years and thousands of euros spent over the internet just to train my postman!? It's just as you'd ask me to say to Sebastian Vettel to become a taxi driver now... :lol_hitti

why not ??? for the next "Taxi" movie maybe ?? :D

Yup, Sip are not exactly the same but look very similar, I was a bit confused when they refered to Mega in the description...

don´t buy it..... :D

Strange, blue makes me think about güde products, so basically cheap imports :)

jaaaaaa Güde.... with their special Güde blue..... ugly :D

I asked Abco for a shipping quotation, I'm waiting for an answer, they also have a very cool spent oil recuperator, I've alreay seen it before on the GJ homepage I think, but under a different brand name, would someone remember? I couldn't find it in the archives, I'd like to know if it's worth the money...

to ship to scotland they already charge 30.-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ABCO-MEGA-LOW..._Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item1e55662651

the oil thing looks good but 82.- Euro ??? ok for your Ferrari only the best is good enough :D ;) But maybe they have a dealer in Belgium for the oil pan and this time :))) it´s maybe cheaper ??? :D www.oma-garagequipment.it
more oil pans etc: http://www.blitzusa.com/oilchange.htm

I think we usually have higher prices in Belgium, at least for stuffs with "low volume" sale, we're a small country, there are not many resellers, so less competition...
We also don't have local brands which could be more appreciated by belgian customers, just because it's local, so that foreign competitors would have to lower their prices to give themselve an advantage, I don't know...

But it should be in the interest of the manufacturer that the prices are not too high (overpriced) because nobody will buy it ...

Héhé, I like the idea of a tool trip in England, with 300€ difference just for the jack it really worth to be taken into account, if Abco can't deliver at a reasonable price, I'll consider it (I'm not so far of the tunnel, but are they?).
I even thought of a Facom from a UK reseller but it's still expensive, The tool academy sells the T2X for 475€ + 27€ shipping. It's 200€ more than Abco, just the colour change from spanish red to french gray.

if nothing works out i can send you a AC or Compac jack repainted in red (only + 100.-€ for you :D)

It's beautiful isn't it? I love it in grey... but 200€ just for the paint and a different handle? :headscrat.
If Abco can send it to me for 27€ too I would be very happy with a red one, I'm waiting for their answer...

yeah looks nice.... but the price..... a rattle can with grey paint cost only 5.-€ :D

Btw, nice bottle opener, do they sell the screw system alone? it would be a nice bit for my 10,8v impact screwdriver :lol_hitti

lol :D i think they need to invent impact resistant bottles before :D
i only found the set so far..

@Monte

The ratchet it's a bit bulky and 6 or more arc degrees compared to my Facom but very strong. The sockets are very nice, they have a bit of low profile compared to other sockets, very good plating and strong. I have used a few of them quite intense on some rusted bolts and there is no mark on them from the bolts. I know the 3/8 set from Ebay, it's nice. But i'm looking in buying a Facom one (fan :) ). I think in the future i will trade if possible the Saltus set with a Facom one. I try to have all my tools from the same manufacturer.

sounds good !! Makes me want to buy a set !!! (but no money :D )

Everything from one manufacturer looks nice - also kind of professional, but i like the diversity of manufacturers: design, finish, specifications etc. everywhere different with their pros + cons.
Sometimes a manufacturer also makes something which is not the best in it´s category for example like you also already experienced with the ProTwist screwdrivers (try PB Swiss :) ) or which i don´t like too much like certain wrenches for example :) (pick one :D)

Well, it's not my favourite blue either, I only have a stationary saw for metal, I took everything apart prior to use, I didn't trust it at all :) But it's fine concerning safety, concerning quality .... still a good value for money!

Well, sometimes shipping fees in England can be surprising, I've seen heavy item charged less when sent to Belgium than to Scotland, I guess it depends of the transporter... Anyway if I can keep postage under 75€ I'm happy, it would make 350€ for my jack, compared to the 600€ when bought here...

Well quite expensive but no more oil dropped on the way to the barril or oil plug dropped in the oil. 30 liters capacity is nice, I have to change the oil of my uncle's tractor, 12 liters, almost enough to fill my actual "oil pan" twice :bounce:
I have seen that Rodac sell them (also a 5l and a 8l model) a so I'll ask for the price at my local dealer on saturday, I hope that I'll have more luck this time.

Well it depends how you see the problem, concerning car repair, DIY usually buy "****" in supermarkets or DIY's shop and never go in a "pro" shop. So pro shop mostly deal with pro, at pro prices. But professionnals don't pay VAT (21% here) and deducethe rest from their income's tax (income tax is around 50%...).
About the fact that manufacturers keep high prices, it's understandable in a way, less volume for sure but it also means less people to employ, less transport fees...

You're so kind :lol_hitti Unfortunatly I added some Facom's grey powder paint in my order this morning, if the Abco looks too crappy in red I'll re-powdercoat it...

yeah the price is good, several ppl in a german forum bought their drill presses and they seem work good so far.

I always thought if its further away its more expensive.... but good to know if i should need a 2nd jack :) or a extra low one

here too (19 %) but i have to pay the 19% ...except (sometimes) if i don´t need a invoice :D
.....and less production....... :(

i know :D
But that would be cool ...custom powdercoated jacks.... what do you charge ??? :D i might be interested in a "Resedagreen" (RAL 6011) transformed AC jack.... :)

Happy Birthday to me.

Picked up some items from Steve at Ultimate Garage. S.153A - 1/2" flex head long handle ratchet. S.215 1/2" 10" extension. Toptul SAAA3013 12" hacksaw.

Check out the "paper" UltGar uses for packing - a couple of nice 24x36 TopTul posters. I'm going to roll them up and try to smooth out some of the wrinkles so I can use them in the garage.

..but shorter than the deep offset box wrenches it seems.... hmmm strange

edit: haha that are the "625" SAE wrenches it seems !! 5/8" x3/4" for example 337mm long !
the metric 625 are the short ones (16x18 = 244.5mm 17x19 = 279.4mm)

Couple of things I bought lately:

Facom pin-style spanner wrench (interchangable pins)
DSC00005.jpg

Hazet 435 set
DSC00009.jpg

DSC00011.jpg

Hazet 600N/17 wrench set and some new-world ****
DSC00001.jpg

Difference in colour/finish between older 600N wrench and new one
DSC00010.jpg

Not a great comparison shot, but the newer ones have a whiter, chromier finish whereas the older ones have a grey-ish tinge to them. Slightly better finishing on the older ones too. Can take more pics of this if anyone cares.

So the 'shorter' DBE SAE equivalent to the metric 625s are the 630 series?

nice tools and welcome back to GJ :D and this thread !!!!!!!!!!!!

there is no equivalent it seems.. 625 metric = short / 625 SAE = long
630 deep offset metric + SAE about same length for similar sizes.
Stahlwille also has extra long SAE box wrenches... maybe for a specific application... i dunno...aircraft engines or so....???

edit: it seems the 625 SAE long wrenches are no longer in the 2010 catalog, only 2009, and the 625 metric wrenches are reduced from 8 sizes to 6.

Re: Ironside - Mysterious tools from Germany.

Thanks Monte, it's good to be back:thumbup: I was still watching this thread...:)

Great comparison pictures! Exactly the differences I saw in my wrenches.

if you like you can still post some more 600N wrench pics !!! ;)
can´t be enough :)
So how do you like them ?? (besides the finish :D)

Sometimes I like to add bubbles and words to cheesy photos but I'll prevent myself from doing so, I don't want to be banned:lol_hitti

:D just do it :D (censored of course ;) )

@Monte-

Do you know when Hazet made this change to the 600N series?

i don´t know exactly ....maybe 2-3 years ago ???
edit: i just sent Hazet a email....

I bought this set in Moscow 15 years ago. Many times I

tried to find any "Ironside" tracks online but no avail.

Still use Ironside Phillips #2 screwdriver as a tool of choice.

Interesting !!!! I always thought "Ironside" is only import stuff...

That's just strange. Why would they bother to change the wrench from the superior looking 'two step' design to a 'one step' design? I can't imagine that it makes a difference in the way the wrench performs or feels.

It wil probably be cheaper to produce....

I bought a new set of those last year, and thought there was something different about them. But since I didn't have any old ones, I couldn't determine what is was exacly. Now I know!

Taiwan tools are not only cheaper, but are also starting to look better...

I would not worry about it too much. I have been using the same wrenches alot and they are still a top quality product (on par with Stahlwille, Gedore, and Elora). I would start to worry when they don't say Made in Germany. I am not sure if Hazet changed the composition of the metal alloy or the finish to be a brighter product :pimpflash (perhaps to be more accepted in the USA where Snap On is king ). I don't know just a theory.

I do like the looks of the "two step" design.

As far as the reason behind the change .... Is the "one step" design really going to be cheaper to produce  :headscrat Please elaborate. All I know is that the forging dies need to be replaced at some pre-determined interval anyway, and the forging hammer still does its same job, with the same number of strikes, to forge that 610N wrench.

The brighter finish is simply the result of a different bath formula during the plating process, right?

These two changes are perhaps just another example of why tool companies make subtle changes through time, to make things "fresh" and "new".

i dunno i like both Hazet 600N designs, the old style because of the double recess and the new style because it´s "cleaner" and resemble the even older styles more (old 600 without "N").

Over the years Hazet changed (slightly) the design, different inscriptions, older wrenches once had "Remscheid" forged into the wrench, different designs of the inscription "Hazet", stamped in size markings, forged in size markings, then the transformation from the 600 to the 600N around 1995, now again the change from the old 600N to the new 600N....

I don´t know if there is a price difference, maybe it takes less time to make the forging die since the milling machine don´t have to cut 2 "recesses" or "steps" but how long does it take ??? I dunno maybe an hour ??? A Gedore employee once told me you can make about 5000 to 45000 wrenches from a forging die depending on the size of the wrench so the price difference if there is any will be minimal.

Regarding the chrome: I guess different formula - new "eco friendly" and less harmful chrome....
google for Cr(VI) or chrome 6 or chrome VI , the "old" chrome is cancer-causing (lung cancer). Forbidden since 2007 to use it in the automobile and electric industry EU wide. In case of tool production probably no longer used to protect the employees from the plating facility since the chrome fumes can cause cancer.

@Lukas:
nice Kress drill !!! Did you pick it up recently or do you have it already longer ?? Since they don´t make this style anymore (unfortunately) ... i like the pistol grip style since your hand and the pressure is in-line with the drill-bit...

Amazon.de sells Ironside items, for example:

ahhh !!!! and still made in germany !!

Thats nice. :) :) :) :) :) I want one but can't get them here.

you could buy a voltage converter for the charger :)
