Tools from the old world

On looks alone, I have to give it to the older '2' step process on the 600Ns. I like the extra detail.

However, I'm sure they are still top performers why they are put to work.

Guys, that Kress drill was bought last week, our Kress importer is clearing magazines, this is discounted model. They are selling at biggest polish auction service, i dunno if i can post a link here? I guess Monte will have no problems with shipping but i don't know if they will ship to USA. I paid something like 100euro/138$ which is pretty good price for Swiss made two speed drill with two 3Ah batteries and nice 1-hour charger, at least in Poland. They had also Ni-Cd 2Ah version for 83 euro and other(non pistol grip) drills. Next week I will be testing batteries on professional battery pack tester so if you are interested I can post results.

No in person photos, but got a used Metabo LT drill. One of the newer ones, made in Germany.

Also got 2 new grinders from Metabo today. 4.5 and 7 inch. The 7 inch was cheap because it apparently has an M14 rather than 5/8" spindle, but I haven't verified that, and one of the reviewers on amazon said that the metric spec was a misprint.

damn prices are going up and down like crazy over the past few days, but I got this for $137. I think the amazon list of $408 is slightly inflated, but not sure.

It turns out that it's the W8-115 quick (probably find the accurate photo on the Metabo site). I have one already from a Metabo dealer, and this one was the same. Didn't notice the photos were different though. Thanks for the heads up.

I never go into pawn shops but I was on the way back from another tool score locally and stopped in at this one.

Looked through the cases, only a couple of things caught my eye. End up buying this and a F80. I've never heard of this brand but the look and feel of the tool said quality to me so I took a chance. It is a deadblow, it looks to never have been used. It is 1160g / ~ 41 oz / ~ 2lbs 9 oz.

A quick internet search for KBS G50 and other variations turned up nothing.

The hammer finish and overall design made me think it was made by PB Swiss (and, of course, since it is Swiss made)


Anybody have info on KBS? And what is ruckschlagfrei?

I like it. The shop obviously knew the typical truck name brands pretty well. I'm guessing they tried to look up some information on this hammer and didn't find any (as I did) and threw it in the case with a price. Now I'm very interested to find out more about it. I'm wondering of the ends are replaceable, they don't feel like it.

They are usually available in stores for the professional user. However there is one Big Box store who carry them here called Bauhaus. There are also 5 Bauhaus stores in Spain but i don`t know if they carry the german offering (Matador, Wera, Bessey, Erdi, Knipex, Wolfcraft etc.) www.bauhaus.es

Good afternoon, I'm new in this forum, but have been reading this post for some weeks (from the beginning till page 100, where I am now). Since I found it so interesting and also wanted to post, I have decided to register.

Herr Monte, I sometimes shop at Bauhaus, since it is the biggest and nearest shop of this kind in Barcelona (and they have many of the things that I need and at a good price); although I'm lately buying tools (not many) over "Amazon.de", because the variety of tools and price is better.

Well, back to what I wanted to tell you, in Bauhaus (here in Barcelona), people can find Wera, Wolfcraft, Knipex and Wissent, and something von Kirschen (but not a lot); but next time I'll try to look at more brands.
And for powertools, there are drills from AEG, Bosch (green line only) and Hitachi; for the rest of powertools, they are only from Bosch (green line again).

I think Halder makes them ( i thought in germany) , but maybe in switzerland or a swiss company makes knock-offs ?? (Damn 3rd world copy countries )
i dunno..... or maybe KBS is a fake, or its legit but they print "KBS - swiss made" on all their stuff even if it´s not ? i have no clue....

I found catalog prices between 28.70€ to 37.55€ + tax ( $39.25 to $51.35 + 19% sales tax) for the Halder 50mm hammer. $15 sounds like a good deal !

I only have some pictures I took from the Dremels accessories shelf and the jigsaw saws (or blades), in order to have their price and for comparing prices (from Bauhaus). But will try next time to take some pictures (if allowed, of course).
I haven't seen Metabo at all in Bauhaus, to say the truth, the first time I heard from Metabo (and other brands like Eibenstock, Duss, Fein, Festool, Lamello and Protool) was at this thread.

I have a few pictures of my tiny collection of tools, mostly the newer ones, and the ones I like most. But I'll post them at another day.

Besides Bauhaus (which is in the city of Barcelona), there are a few more big stores like that; "Servei Estació" (in the city, too), "Aki" (a few kilometers out from Barcelona) and "Leroy-Merlin" (outside from Barcelona).

But apart from those big shops, in Barcelona there are lots of small ironmongery.

I much prefer the older ones. I always prefer a more industrial, "teutonic" style tool than shiny bling. Functionally, I'm sure they're identical, although there are more flaws in the new style forgings. BTW, the box ends on all of my Hazets are perfectly centered.

@garfunkle24: Thank you for the checking of your Hazet 435 set. I presume it's made in Czech Rep or in Slovenia. These wrenches are AFAIK less and less produced in Germany, neither GEDORE don't make them any more. Same thing goes for Facom's "series 75" and "series 76". But, that's an other story...

@Monte : i've got a set of 610 N wrenches, never noticed this "two step" design before you mentioned it . Now, i consider this particular forge to be more attractive at first sight than the new regular "one step" design of the 600 N (which i also own and like it very much).
Also, i noticed in the Hazet 2009 catalogue that the 450 N is still "two step" forged.

I have these and they're very nice. It looks like the only difference from the Halder (middle in the pic of three above) is Wiha uses yellow inserts and of course different color coating.

Hi guys!

As I told you a few pages back, I was waiting for some european tools that I purchased, now that I've received some of them... showtime!

Let's start with some hand files, I didn't have any so I bought some Vallorbe files, it's quite a reputated brand I think. At least they're well finished, no damaged teeth and you just see chips flying around when you use them, it can't be compared to DIY files...
I'm happy I just have some issues with screwing the handles on the files but with a bit of grinding it should be fine (so next saturday I'll buy a bench grinder )

Bessey "ideal" snips with serrated blades, I tried it this week-end, it really cut without slip and it's possible to make smooth low radius curves.
Bessey folding knife, a bit pricey for a knife (12€) but it feel robust, no play at all, the thumb pad makes it comfortable when cutting thick rubber. Blades are sharp, plastic is really soft, between plastic and rubber, I always have it in my pocket now

By the way, I received some news concerning the Mega T2X floor jack.
Abco (UK) can send it to Belgium for 125€ so it would cost me 400€ including shipping.
I contacted a belgian importer of Mega's products, specialized in tractor's maintenance but they don't sell to privates. However they gave me the address of one of their customers, a tractor shop at 10 km of my village. I'll call them tomorow, if they sell it at a decent price it will be the first time that I can buy a tool so close of my home. The first "real" tool shop I usually go is at 40km, well it's not that bad in a way, at least for my wallet...

Once you hold the HAZET wrenches and actually use them any doubt will disappear . I have some Gedore and Stahlwilles and they are all awesome wrenches. If anyone does not want their HAZET stuff, feel free to send it my way, I will even pay for shipping
