Moose,

I have read the past posts about your NWS cutter experiences. You (as well as other NWS owners) inspired me to purchase my first pair earlier this week. I am now a true believer! :bounce:

Thanks,

Dave

I'm glad you've been converted. All my NWS pliers are excellent, much better than my Knipex ones. The finish is much better, as are the cutting edges and jaws. I've been disappointed with some of my Knipex, but never my NWS. :)

@dede : The NWS fantastico is more powerfull thanks to its demultiplicated design. However, it's made from a classical tool steel. The Knipex side cutters you mentioned have a more regular design, but is made from a chrome-vanadium steel. Then more durable IMHO.

How are they for price? Since they're made in Germany... I'm guessing the NWS cost a bit. I got my Knipex ones for 25$, and I'm pretty satisfied with them.

I've had no problems with NWS' durability, they're very tough. I gave my friend a pair and he don't go easy on them. The cutting edges are still as good as the day he got them. Mine are too.

Knipex and NWS are both made in Germany. NWS tends to be cheaper.

AutomatiquE,

Thanks for sharing the design and material differences between the NWS and Knipex side cutters. I found it to be interesting.

T-handles are extremely useful if you wrench on motorcycles

ricleh,

Have you used your Ko-ken and Nepros t-handles much?

If yes, what are the advantages t-handles possess versus a breaker bar; long, locking extension bar; and a socket?

Thanks,

Dave

Edit: I just saw a video on the Knipex, they are pretty similar. Only major difference I see is that NWS has the top piece on a pin, it has a bit of float to it. I wonder what this does different than the Knipex.

Does NWS have an equivalent to the Knipex Pliers Wrench?

I guess I've never seen a Knipex Pliers Wrench in person, is why I'm asking.

I don't think so. Just checked their website, and it doesn't appear they do. Nothing exactly like them, anyways. There was a few similar. I handled a Pliers Wrench at Sears earlier this week. Very nice product, but it was $50! I didn't buy it, but it looked rather useful and very well made. I was amazed Sears had one, to be honest. :wtf:

The design of the Knipex plier wrench causes the 2 faces to be parallel at all times. The NWS is able to clamp on to non parallel surfaces with the one pivoting face. I have both and they both seem to work very well. I just wish the NWS was offered with the Titan finish instead of the matte chrome.

I prefer Titan as well, but I can handle the one piece in matte chrome. I'm sure it'll take a bit of learning before I can wield the pliers wrench with a bit of a pro flair, but I hear people really like them. So I made the purchase.

Monte is all of Bessey's production in China now as I've seen some clamps at Fastenal and Lowes that are made in Germany and I've been thinking of buying them if they won't be available in the future.

mmmm... looks like you missed the obvious ":lol_hitti" there!
that's what happen when reading northern hemisphere posts upside down...:D

there is also the possibility that your wrenches are cadmium coated, although i'm not sure that Gedore used to do this, which is equally toxic and "eeeeky" to the touch...

the good side is that they'll give you smoother hands by having you use gloves!
 lol, sorry cosmik binturong, I figured it was in jest, I suppose I didn't want to come across as a fusspot! (I'm not, I just have GJ-induced OCD! :lol_hitti)

I dunno, I was wondering about fire damage, chemical treatment or over zealous wire brushing, but hey, it they had a matt grey finish and weren't smooth to the touch, then that's the way God/Gedore intended! Been a lot on my plate here lately...

I got a 1/4" and 1/2" socket set from Koken today. These are my first Koken tools and so far so good. They seem to very well made and I will give them a try this weekend. I also took some photos to compare with my Facom and Beta sockets. The Beta and the Koken have a striking similarity in fit and finish. I believe I read somewhere that Koken made sockets for Beta :headscrat.

I think it was earlier in this thread, Koken swapped/provided their sockets to Beta in return for the same deal for Beta wrenches. Apparently the wrenches weren't too flash however, and they are no longer offered on their website.

And yeah, Koken is awesome.

That may be because you don't have a major distributor for them. I can get (some of) them here cheaper than Knipex, if i order direct from Germany they're almost always cheaper.
Moose, where do you usually order from in Germany?

Found these yesterday at a tool shop in my neck woods. I'm not very familiar with SKG, can you guys tell me about them? Specifically, how durable are the tips?

 me wants!

is that from before Dowidat was folded back into the Gedore Group?

i don´t know the age but i guess it´s from the 80´s or 90´s when the company was known as "Belzer-Dowidat" or "DWU"/"Deutsche Werkzeug Union"

Finally can be a part of this

nice tool box !
When i visited the Airbus factory they had a bunch of the "171" model Assistent

it´s not mine, it belongs to one of the garage buddies, so i can´t tell you more. It feels solid and works good, i like it because of the big jaw opening so the Facom version is on my wishlist !

@Bhae:

Get the French made ones. Very expensive but well worth the $$$$.

american lockpicker,

What are some other advantages have you found with Facom design during use besides its wide mouth capacity?

Is the screw on the top handle control just the pressure applied by the jaws just like Hanson Lockjaw pliers?

Would you mind sharing where and how much was the purchase for the Facom version?

Thanks,

Dave

The wide mouth locking plier (owned by "Monte") with the notched, adjustable jaw capacity and screw on the top handle is made by the Japanese tool manufacturer Supertool. Supertool has 2 models: SG 100 (4" length) and SG 200 (8" length).
