OK, two questions for you guys since you seem to know it all:

1) Vessel Megadora scewdrivers. In this thread and others, there's been some discussion of the fact that the cross-shaped ones (+) are "not JIS". A reply (posted in another thread) from Vessel implied that they expect them to fit JIS screws properly, they're just manufactured to something that doesn't comply with some aspect of the JIS for cross-shape. Has anyone just taken a Megadora and stuffed it into a JIS cross screw to see if it fits properly? I mean, it's great to do research over the internet, but sometimes you just have to shove it in there and see if it fits. Any real-world experiences?

2) Due to this thread, I found Wiha tools. They have an interesting deep offset double box wrench set (US Part Number "457 90") that I'm considering buying due to the very reasonable pricing in the US. Are the Wiha wrenches good enough for high-torque professional use?

I have a few of the Wiha wrenches, they are made by HEYCO, a German company. They are satin chrome with an excellent finish. I've put them through their paces on my Japanese cars and motorcyles. Although I'm only a weekend mechanic, they should hold up well for pro use.

I would also check Amazon for these wrenches.

...and Rico Marker :)

Rico Marker scriber
www.rieder-co-ag.ch

Hah! I'd never seen another mention of Rico Marker since I got mine, but boy are they nice little scribes! One of the very few Swiss made things that I own. Actually, I think it's the only thing I own from there :lol_hitti

They do a lot of the "make a product and put anyones name on it" thing, but I bet they sell a ton.

Also, I don't have a dedicated camera, so my 2 year old cell phone will have to do.

I bought this Bahco 1/2" at the flea market this morning. Model 703A. I could not find it on google.

At about 10 1/2" long it is short for a breaker bar. About the length of a 1/2" ratchet.

I just noticed there is a very small crack in the plastic green handle. Anyone know if I can get a replacement handle?

Don't know how this thing ended up at a California flea market. I bought it from a guy I have bought old tools from before. He gets stuff from estate sales and sells at the flea market.

One of the few actually old tools I have.

You can't read it because I forgot my Nikon DSLR at home :spit:

Says "OXWALL Germany" near the head, and 5/8 X 6" at the tail.

It has about... .200 thousandths of play (side to side!) so it's been put through the wringer a few too many times.

The wide mouth locking plier (owned by "Monte") with the notched, adjustable jaw capacity and screw on the top handle is made by the Japanese tool manufacturer Supertool. Supertool has 2 models: SG 100 (4" length) and SG 200 (8" length).

Dave

Thanks heaps for that Dave! I was thinking the one I was looking at was similar but different/smaller. It has no markings saying 'Super', but is similar enough to be an older model of this. It's going for NZ$15 (US$12ish) at the mo, when it hits a more reasonable price, I may grab it.

I take it you are referring to the JIS Screwdriver and Any interest in purchasing JIS screwdrivers. I can only reiterate what you said, but I'm hoping they do fit JIS screws, since I'm planning on buying a whole set of them - will **** if they don't fit! lol

So yeah, I would like a definitive explanation... having said that, dede2897234, didn't you get a set of Vessel drivers? What did you think?

I have some Vessel drivers. I needed the JIS for my motorcycles. I can't comment on the Megadora's, but the Power Grips I use are great. They have thru-tangs, hex bolster, and striking head.

In this pic the top two red translucent drivers are Vessel Power Grips, the middle two are Vessel Ball Grips, and the bottom is a nifty wood handle.

Well, I ordered three of the Vessel Megadora cross-points in sizes 1,2,3 over the weekend. Hopefully, they'll show up here tomorrow (I usually get my stuff next-day from this company). We'll see.

Just a word of caution(?). I've seen knock-offs of the Facom version when I was at a French fleamarket. I picked it up, made a quick inspection and deemed it a low quality tool. The chrome plating on it reeked of cheapness. It was a no-namer, just like the one you're curious about. So, keep that in mind. :D

There's some good information in this thread, all the way to page 5: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28491

My Vessel, Ko-ken, PB, and Wera screwdrivers all fit well on the JIS fasteners I've encountered.

NOS 3/8" "Dowidat" flex head ratchet

That's awesome. I think Mr. Dowidat had some good taste. :)
The head is a Facom type 72-tooth? It reminds me of the Carolus Rastoflex ratchet. I like how the handle has the same designs found on some older pliers (like my Heyco plier that mostlikely came in a BMW auto-kit).

Sick Puppy,

I own various Vessel model 900 cross recess and slotted screwdrivers. I have not had the opportunity to use them on JIS cross recess fasteners.

I would recommend posing this same question to "mrtools". He owns various Vessel model 930 screwdrivers (with hex bolsters and metal striking caps). "mrtools" works in machine maintenance at some facility in Malaysia. Some of the equipment he works on were built in Japan. "mrtools" has owned Vessel screwdrivers for a number of years and put them through heavy duty use.

Why Netherlands "of all places"?

It's the only tool i own that was made there. In fact, i can't recall anything else i own that's made there, it seems to be fairly obscure as far as manufactured products go. Wasn't an insult, it's just unusual (for me) to find anything made there.

A guy i work with has lots of stuff made in the Netherlands. But it's green and sticky, so in a somewhat different category all together.

:D I wonder if its the type of stuff thats regularly used in Zig Zags...

Also what else besides tools is made in Holland/Netherlands? I know of Carr crackers and Philips Norelco razors.
HP Sauce , it's still got the Queen of Englands seal on there but it's made in Netherlands now.
Also salted licorice , an acquired taste that one.Not actually flavoured with sodium chloride but with pottasium chloride i think.

No I died shortly after and came back as a zombie with a craving for tools instead of brains... :lol_hitti

Also a bacon(I think we Americans have a different type ) sandwich with HP is awesome and Dutch licorice is ok but I kinda like the Finnish stuff better...

yeah he had  The ratchet has 60 teeth, i think underneath the red knob (no push button) is a screw to disassemble the head, but i don´t want to try it :) so maybe Facom type ?

:)

Nice looking bits:thumbup: do u used it,what ur opinions?

Nice Kress power tools:drool: where do u find it?

The japanese flash light has a bulb, it still works, i think its from the 70´s or 80´s , my father brought it from japan (together with 2 Casio calculators which still work too) when he was working on a ship.

btw. tools from Holland: There was once a company called "Nooitgedagt" which made chisels and measuring tools which was sold in 1997 to "Record" ( now "Irwin"/Newell Rubbermaid). So there were Irwin tools made in Holland until 2004 when the factory was closed by Newell Rubbermaid. The new squares i saw are made in England.

My Vessel Megadoras showed up today. While I haven't used them to extract a very stuck cross-shape JIS screw, I'm quite confident that they are JIS-compatible. I pulled a screw out of the dash of my car (Subaru). The Megadora "locked in" with that solid feeling fit that you get when you use a JIS driver in a JIS screw and the screw would "hang on" to the tip without falling off if you held the driver horizontal, which is another hallmark of the JIS-JIS combination.
