LOL...kinda figured she must have got them from you. She's caught me drooling at the items in your Ebay store many times! now if I can just get her to notice when I'm oggling the assistent 166C and the foam inserts full of tools that go into them i'll be all set!!

To me snipe nosed pliers have a flat area, usually with a wire cutter, and then taper to a point, aka radio pliers. I thought the flat items were 'chain nose', for making jewellery links. Knipex seems to agree, but NWS doesn't.

Not so bad in comparison with the sockets and spanners. Sidchrome sockets and spanners are identical to the "half the price" Stanley badged. All Taiwanese. I should take some side by side photos (a friend has new sets if both). It is rather shocking. I guess people in the know don't pay double for the Sidchrome inscription on them.. Pliers are another story. Either Facom in France or German made. Both quality items.

Thanks for the clarification on that. Now can you tell me if Facom sockets are exactly the same as what are sold under the Stanley name? I hear that they are Taiwan. I am quite suspicious..

A wrenches said BELZER with a glossy chrome finish and not mention..Spain or Argenina + a packing said Belzer Germany quality + made in Spain
maybe if I have a time, I should visit a hardware and take some pics or buy it

i guess wrong package....glossy chrome should be from Argentinia...
if very old ...then from Germany...but on the wrench then it say "Germany". Never seen spanish "Belzer" tools...

Both NWS & Knipex don't have a serrated jaw option for their snipe nose...that's why I wouldn't buy them. Knipex are streets ahead in quality out of the two I've shown here. CK eats them both! The Knipex cutters are nice though, cant fault them.

if you have the chance to try Schmitz or Ohm ... they have a large assortment of pliers without and with serrated jaws ("mit Hieb")

i don´t know.... matter of taste.. ... Heuer, Ridgid, Peddinghaus, Schlegel, FZA, Braun, Leinen, Boley, Kanca.....if you have one of these you can´t go wrong... My personal favourites are Heuer, Ridgid and Schlegel

Seen alot of Czech Republic Braun stuff also.
Quality is not the same.

Gf bought me LUX/Felo stubby screwdrivers,for me they are better then wiha (Its just me lol)!!! also there's Felo logo on them,barely visible but it says "Felo W.Germany" btw if they are W germany how old they are???

From Taiwan i guess. There are Yato sockets and ratchets at the flea market sometimes and they look like the standard Taiwan imports.

May i make a suggestion that the name of this thread change from tools from the old world to, Monte's official old world tool thread. Has a much better sound to it.
It seems to me that if Monte does not have the current tool being discussed, he will at least know more about it then the gentleman that designed and sell these tools.

Stanley sockets are not identical to Facom sockets, the Stanleys* are Chinese and have appear to have a much poorer quality finish, particularly on the inner face. Most Facom sockets are made in Taiwan.

The AF designation is indeed "across flats".

I have one of their torque wrenches also, no frills, basic design but gets the job done.

I would like your opinion about the 440 series spanners from Facom. I just got 467 ratchet spanner set from Facom and it seems open end strength has been "sacrificed" for better accessibility.

I am looking for good combination spanner set and 440 Facom has been high on my list. But I need strong open end - if the open end on 440 is the same as 467 I need to find something else.

It means Across Flats, as opposed to Whitworth where the imperial size refers to the thread diameter.

Almost 20 years ago I was working as electronic technician. Back then I had two favorite screwdrivers - long lost. When I found G.J. few weeks ago I discovered what brand they were; WERA. Of course I went shopping.
Intended use:
Flex bit driver - misc.
Flex 7mm nut driver - hose clamps
Flex 8mm nut driver - hose clamps
Set of 6 yellow/black chisel drivers - my electric tool case.
Green/black bit driver +6 long bits - Glove compartment of my 4x4.
14x250mm +12x200mm black chisel drivers - This is part of experiment regarding quality screwdrivers in general and my friend. He usually brakes all flat screwdrivers he owns so I am going to give him this pair. If he brakes these he is beyond hope when it comes to screwdrivers!

Go to http://www.ck-tools.com/ and select the "Electrician's Tools" and go to page 51. The T1630 or the bigger T1632 might be what your after. I cant see a listing for the 1632 any more so they may have dropped it. Ebay UK might be your friend if you cant find one. I have a 1630 and I love it.

I've been looking at various brands of those flex shaft nut drivers. How they differ from a normal nut driver is that the "socket" portion is very thin allowing access to the screw head on a hose clamp.

I haven't decided on a brand, and its a tool decision that makes me nuts. I do plenty of hose clamps, but 90% of the time another tool works fine, so its clearly in my "want" not "need" list, but I would still kind of like to get the best one just because I like nice tools. OTOH I've seen cheap, but most likely adequate sets on ebay for $25 that incl the 3 common metric sizes and a 1/4 square drive for use with sockets.

No I have not used it yet. Magnet is ok, not super strong but easy to hold the driver upside down just grabbing the bit. But it has locking mechanism (small steel ball) as well so bits with slots are secured.

I am pretty sure this is a useful tool, you can easily bend it 90° and it feels like it can take some torque.
