Euro Gang,

The picture of Super Ego hacksaw caught my eye. It looked very familier. Check out the following photos and see what you think:

The Super Ego...
EuroHacksaws.jpg

3M and Lenox models, ca. 1990's...
USAHacksaws.jpg

The frames look 99.9% identical. Only differance is the tension lever/knob. Looks like a case of transatlantic crossbreeding.

yes, it seems to me that there is one company that does the moulds/parts and sell them customized to all the other ones with their names on it... so long with the veracity of the "made in ***" markings... :spit:

there was an old starrett too that looked a lot like this one but with a different front end...

nah, only that if i remember you bought one of the Gillet-made Craftsman collar pliers with a long flex head from Sears that was the same as the Facom one for much less... or smoething like that! :D

why would you shoot some poor strippers with 7,5x54mm??? not bouncy enough? :lol_hitti

anyway, french army stuff is pretty badly made usually(lowest bidder wins! troufions lose :D) except the weapons and maintenance equipment... see my test thread with the Snap-On tools that are french navy "surpluses" as in "we replaced all those nice american-made tools that were included in the contract for that weapon system by french ones made by Facom in China and with this we can grease a little bit more the barrel of some of our well healed porcine friends...".

i'll see what i can dig! ;)

Oh yes I forgot about that.

Not those kind of strippers. :lol_hitti

Yea my FAK is pretty poorly made(a Taiwanese knockoff marketed by an Italian company was better made...):yikes:

Anyways some pics.

solution: Buy more tools to fix the cars :D ;)

ps: how do you like your Gedore ratcheting wrenches so far ?

I'm doing it right now :)

I must say I have not used them much. I still go to my ratchet first. I don't know if I can give a real answer to why. Some things I have thought of is:
The ratcheting is not as smooth as I would like. The straight layout makes is a bit awkward to use sometimes. The head is a bit big. For those instances where a ratchet won't fit thought they are nice to have.

since i'm going away for a few days tomorrow, here are some more pixes for your enjoyment:

Nice as always!

I was browsing Amazon.co.uk last week, and saw some Wera on sale. Ordered some and today a big package arrived. To my disappointment it was just one of the drivers. The package was big, filled with packing padding, and this driver:

The 14mm slot chiseldriver.

More chiseldrivers will hopefully come soon!

Monte, how many oil cans do you have ? Do you fill each of them with different oil type ?

currently i have 6 oil cans. The reason i bought the one above was that it only cost 50 cent :)
One can is filled with engine oil, one with air tool oil, another one with cutting fluid and another one with hydraulic oil. Need one of the Reilang cans though :D...and find more fluids so it makes sense to buy another one :D

Speaking of Reilang...does anyone know where those can be bought in the states? I've found them on Amazon.de, but they're not sold by Amazon and cannot be shipped to the US.

Radio Paris was the french voice of the occupation forces in the early 40s...
they had a mix of enthusiastic french and german songs! :D

yes !! please buy it. I would be very happy !

so would i... the priority is still the first RollMaster, then maybe the Dowidat Trabant and/or an Assistant from Hazet then a second RollMaster, an orange big vintage Beta box for the future shop; that or those beautiful blue Irimos that Bhae is showing us from time to time(will have to go fetch them at his shop though, just to have a long look at his Stahlwille and his nice goggie).
lol.gif

as of now, asbestos roofing got in the way and money is being diverted upward... :(

with a mix of italian(Silca Pista), german(SKS Rennkompressor), american(vintage airborne radar pressurizer) and japanese(Hirame pump chuck) stuff...

the CATU one will be regrinded and repurposed one day, the Beta screwdriver is going to be replaced next time i'll go to Beta France for the rats service kits and the Würth i don't know, i don't have a receipt since it was a gift from one of their reps... time will tell! ;)
too bad for them, no more tools and free help: their loss, not mine! :spit:

yes, no CoO or any other markings on it. probably european since it dates from the early to mid-70s methinks.
cleaning was a bit hard on the metal but rust was already well entrenched...

Hahahaha, yep I don't know French but am quite sure that it will be more difficult to learn than Spanish (my mother language is also harder than Spanish ;)).
But I also decided to study German, which is waaaaaaay harder to learn than French... and when I'm done with German will study Russian or Italian ;)

I guess asbestos is forbidden in France too, isn't it?

How can people be so rude and cheeky , the least I would do in such situation is asking you for the cost of it and pay for what I have broken, but the best would be to buy you a new one. The pity is that you have lost those tools and probably the trust on your neighbours.

i would be so happy to be kidding... :(
it's forbidden in new installations since i think the mid-90s, but that roof date from the 60s and is made of painted corrugated asbestos, since we're doing a remodelling of the building we will have to get rid of it or no permit... the nicest thing is that we'll certainly have to deal with a german firm because we cannot find a french one that will do the work for a reasonable price. nice! i'm going to compare our tools!

they're not "rude", they just don't care and wouldn't understand a price of more than 100€ for the copper cutting pliers...
i haven't lost anything except time... the Beta is warranty-able, the CATU is still usable but not as a VDE tool(not a problem, i have other nice orange tools! :D) and the Würth was a gift and is possibly warranty-able too. as for "trust", like Olafur said: "i trust them as far as i can throw'em" or something to that extend... they definitely lost way more than me. beside, i'll get new tools too! :lol_hitti

Do you use Rocol cutting fluid? (amazing stuff)
I suggest one for automatic transmission fluid and one for brake fluid if you run into a though "air in brake system" situation. And one with C2H5OH if it is very cold. :)

@cosmik binturong thanks for all the pics!

If you didn't find it, you could try Picasa, as cosmik binturong said.

Perhaps I'll give it a try, but preferably on a virtual machine ;)

It's a matter of time, when things ease off in Iceland and the economy gets better they will sure open the store ;)

Have you asked them?
I sometimes ask them in German for shipping to Spain and they usually answer, in English or German.
1# I use Gimp, and it has way more features than I will ever use. Similar to Photoshop. I am sure this can be done with Gimp.

2# Good idea. I used to dual boot windows and linux. But today it is easy to use virtual machines to play with. :)

3#Yes, but it will take time. And when BAUHAUS opens it will probably trash the competitors.

4# Yes, it seems - if they ship to EU they are willing to ship to Iceland. If they only ship to Germany they usually do not answer requests. Perfectly understandable, but IMO the loose money since German tools have great demand worldwide.

Those guys are nuts....using an angle torque gauge for lug bolts. I tried that once but the impact gun tore up the gauge!

But he did not suggest using impact wrench with angle torque gauge. I fail to see your logic. :headscrat

I bought these screwdrivers in Tesco sale (Monte, hi again :D ) for 3Eur... Although the package should contain 6 pieces, there were only four of them  but it was the very last set there, so I didn't mind - for that price... Another Record plane, a No 4 smoother, my very first bench plane. This one dates from around 1954; I've just refinished the handles, other than that the original "patina" remains, this tool is very much a "user"! Pictured alongside my No 5 for comparison (recently featured here):

Some recent flea-market finds (excl. Kamasa ratchets and sidecutters)

HPIM7159Kopio.jpg

Bahco ratchets 3/8 and 1/2 drives. 1/2 ratchet had it´s spring missing but Würth repair-kit saved it.

HPIM7174.jpg

Phillips 4 screwdriver, looks unused. You never know when you need one.

HPIM7162.jpg

Handles for various projects

HPIM7163.jpg

NOS Bahco compination pliers. Right one still has storage grease on, I think I´ll save it for future generations.

HPIM7161.jpg

Flex-head ratchets from Kamasa Tools. Theres not too much Kamasa on this thread.

HPIM7168.jpg

E. A. Berg sidecutters are still in good condition. 1964 marking on these, dunno are those made back then.

Nice Wera:eyecrazy:
Which one do you regularly used it?

Thanks!

Not sure I understood correctly but:

My planned use is for stuck fasteners. I make a groove with a small rotary tool (my Proxxon :) ) hammer this in and get torque with a wrench to the hex bolster.

Some recent flea-market finds (excl. Kamasa ratchets and sidecutters)

Good finds! Some nice swedish tools there. Green handle Bahco is not my favorite to use, but they are a swedish icon. Berg cutters are excellent!

I took more pictures of my father's tools today evening, and here are some interesting ones:

1) Old punch, made by OPP ROKYCANY (Czechoslovakia).

2) Stanley Thrifty 400 flat screwdriver, made in England.

3) Side-cutting pliers, age unknown, made by unknown manufacturer, but they seem to be a very high quality product. There is some unreadable logo on one side (visible on the second photo).

4) And the old cable stripper, made by Gosmet Bydgoszcz (Poland, http://www.gosmet.pl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46&Itemid=49)

@Monte : Nice Schröder ratcheting driver, Schroder make high quality and unusual tools. May i ask how much you paid it ?

@Jure : Excellent Knipex circlip pliers, excellent choice...i've got the same set:D
For myself i'm plannig to buy two more extra pliers, those with a 90° head:thumbup:

@Dykmore : my brother have an American "Magna" set (1/4 bit holder driver + bits) in a plastic blue case. The driver is the same as your exepting a longer shaft. I always considered this brand, very solid handle, good quality.
