Agree. In the US sockets and ratchets are mostly sold as single items and you have to fiddle around with socket rails and "Stanley" boxes or just have your stuff flying around in the drawers of your snapon cart.

I prefer to have a ratchet set in a dedicated box, that I can grab and go to the job and find everything in place without having to search.
Yeah, but you them have to ensure that the box you buy has everything you need, which they frequently don't - I have a Koken 1/2 socket set, and only just realised that it didn't have a power bar (Haven't used it yet ). It has extensions, spark plug sockets, even a speed wrench, but no bar. My 600mm would never have fitted, but the 390 or 450 ones would have...

Power bar? Round here that's a brand of protein bar lol. :lol_hitti

Would that also be referred to as a breaker bar? :D

lol yeah, that's what I mean! Somewhere I saw them as power bars... :headscrat

I must have been skimming this thread in recent weeks - I usually keep a list of posts with tools and info I figure I'll want to refer to later (or buy!), and I haven't taken any notes in over 1400 posts!!!

isn't Norway as an out of EU state, a zero-VAT destination for stuff send from within the EU like Switzerland is?
*snip*
Yes, in theory. ;)

Some, like Amazon, has it set up so you I don't pay EU tax from outside of EU.
From some you can get a form to reclaim the tax paid, and then reclaim norwegian vat paid on the EU tax.
From some you pay the consumer price and be done with it.

This from what I've experienced over the years.

Don't know how well someone like Bhae is set up to deal with that kind of stuff.

MONTE---Take it from a guy who has used grinders for hours upon hours, days upon days, an "On-Off" switch will get you hurt.

The only way I like to use any type/style of grinder is with a flapper wheel, or trigger switch, that way when you get tired, and you will if you use it much at all, you will just be letting "Go", and it won't Eat you Lunch.

I've had one tear into my clothes from "reaching over" too far, with a 9" bead wheel installed. Praise the Lord I had new covies on, and could "Let Go" of the trigger AFTER it was wound up in my clothes....

Also seen one get "into" a guys arm.....not a lot left after that, Trust me.

I export tools anywhere and if the receiver of the goods is outside of the EU, there is no VAT, if it is inside the EU you pay 19% VAT. What is the problem? OK; sometimes you have to use wikipedia to figure out if the Faroer Islands need to pay VAT, but that's all. It is just necessary to know that to save the VAT the goods have actually to be exported out of the EU. So if you live in the US and have the goods shipped to Germany, e.g. to pick them up on a trip, you have to pay VAT. But, there are also ways around that :)

Ok, its show time for some of my tool goodies.

Let's start first with my new - used - Garant torque wrenches. They are 20-120 and 40-200Nm and have interchangeable inserts. Got them on ebay.de for a very reasonable price. (@ Monte: You see I did it :))

p1030549m.jpg

... especially if you consider that all inserts are made by:

p1030542k.jpg

As you can see wrench itself come from Hazet but with slightly different handles. The beam itself is identical to my Hazet:

p1030550z.jpg

... may have to get them calibrated just to make sure the set torque fits to the Stahlwille inserts. Does anyone know whether the insert length is standardized over all brands?

Let's go ahead with some Bahco files:

p1030551s.jpg

.. and Knipex vise grips. Has been this discussed recently in this thread. Another proof of their existence.

p1030554v.jpg

Now we make a quick trip to Asia with a 3/8 and 1/2" Torx set from KS Tools. Pretty much my only KS pieces. This was - at that time - the most versatile set I found.

p1030552b.jpg

Back to Europe, I'll show a very European tool. Something which is not known in the US so far: pipe pliers that really work . Made By Dako / Gedore. Got them new recently after I didn't want to drive over to my dad all time to borrow his.

p1030556j.jpg

During my recent repair job at a Porsche I ran into a situation where I needed real big wrenches. Unbelievable you think at such fine cars? Go back to the 70's and you'll learn differently. Got some Matador and those Garant beauties, made by Stahlwille. Finish is worse than at the original, functionally they are identical.

p1030557i.jpg

You don't believe the latter? Watch the box end profile. It's the genuine, world famous Stahlwille AS profile:

p1030559r.jpg

Here's the opposite end:

p1030558j.jpg

Ok, let's say hello to the Walter family plus some of their buddies from Gedore, Hazet, VBW, Matador, Toptul and Task Force:

p1030561l.jpg

Then we come to another piece of tool which is sold under all kind of brand names, something almost not discussed in this thread so far: Spring tensioner. Mine is Elora. They are pretty strong and I never had the feeling they bend under load so far.

p1030563xx.jpg

p1030564y.jpg

Towards the end some shots of a typical German DIY 1/4" set nicely boxed by Proxxon. It's as complete as it should be. Taiwan made though:

p1030565x.jpg

The ratchet is coarse and the lever always flips when you want to stay him in position. Will get a 'replacement' by SnapOn soon. Just wait for its arrival from a GJ member :pimpflash

p1030566l.jpg

The 1/4" set has a big brother also, that never disappointed me. Ratchet is better than the 1/4" version.

p1030567h.jpg

If nothing helps I can grab another ratchet anytime. Here are some versions from SnapOn (S80, an F80 didn't made it on the pic)) Pittsburgh, BGS Technic, Kobalt and two gearless Toptul ratchtes (1/4 and 3/8"). The latter are great for tight spots (virtually no play), but the selector ring ***** since it switchtes as soon as your hand get to close to the head while ratcheting.

p1030571n.jpg

p1030572bx.jpg

Will close this post with two shots. First my current torque wrench collection. Will sell the Hazet soon.

p1030574n.jpg

And the drawer they live in (some will recognize: it's in the famous HF 13 drawer tool cart)

p1030575i.jpg

Hope you enjoyed the show:beer:

tough decision... she's only sixteen y.o.!!! :shocking:
and i'm already looking at a "milfy" Perles from 1983... :spit:
oh the dilemna!!! :lol_hitti
let's hear the answer from Elvis!
redface.gif

i would buy it but a dealer here has a NOS Suhner UWF 10 for 120.- + tax which i must buy....so I´m out....
So it´s up to you to rescue a historic piece of swiss manufacturing capabilities.... :)

A friend checked and on a 17mm, Stahl and Hazet were offset the same.

found a 16x17 HZ wrench (but it´s a older version i think...)
.... took some pics:

HZ is a little bit deeper:

Awesome music herr Monte! Didn't know you liked Dr. Dre too. :) That grinder is built like a tank I wish they sold them here.

Thanks Mister Lockpicker ! :D
Snoop Dogg + Dr. Dre = the best :)

@Monte : Is there such NOS Flex in 125 ?

AFAIK they always had a "plastic" motor housing. The Flex models L 1109 FE and L 1710 FRA are not "NOS" but come in a old design which is 20 years or older. The very first "Festo" jigsaw (PS1) which was made by Flex already came with that motor housing design and the PS1 was produced before 1991.

It´s probably not the safest switch.....but...no risk no fun :D ;)
I basically only use 5" grinders, and if i should use the 7" grinder i will pay extra attention what i´m doing.

Ok, its show time for some of my tool goodies.

NO, Deep sockets. NO impact sockets, just hand tools to disassemble BMW motorcycles. There is NO room. The second tray down is covered by the top tray partially. I need punches, wrenches , sockets deep, regular, 1/4 drive extensions, hammers X2, breaker bar, ratchets, screwdrivers, brass drifts, ++ By the time I get it in there it's just a pile with no organization which drives me nuts. it takes longer to do what is needed.

I am putting it up in the classified and for trade SNAP-ON two drawer fold down face

free, a gift from a Würth construction rep that had a bit of work done on his bike
but it has a default in the jaws, i cut *one* 1,5mm copper wire with it and a small chunk of chrome popped off...
looks like an inclusion kind of like a "bubble" in the metal when lost waxing...
another broken Zebra/Felo screwie...
either Würth tools are now as crappily made as my pixes or i'm one unlucky stiff...
buy as my grand-mother always said, you don't look the teeth of a free horse!
oh, got this one too somewhere, really panzer-heavy...
good reveals
;D

THanks for the pics MrTools - Monte and I were looking for an online catalogue or site for MTC and didn't find anything, I don't suppose you know of any do you?
Maybe Iam not understand your questions:D

I don't think there is anything wrong with your box it may just not meet your needs. Long sockets and things like that are not as common among german manufacturers as they are from american tool companies.

Few more photos: ADW keys - surprisingly well made, and small Proteco waterpump (?) pliers - very handy, but little bit rusty, so now waiting for reborn :) together with two ADW keys ready to clean from the rust too.

I lurk on this board all the time, but came upon this thread today and just had to sign up!

Does anyone know where these Proxxon offset wrenches are built: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003V8BONA/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I am in the market for some nice offset wrenches and so far, I've found the Proxxon above, this Wiha set, and a Stahlwille set.

The Proxxon look great and they come with a nice case. It's hard to say no to that price, but something tells me that these probably aren't made in the "old world". Which set would you all buy? Is there another brand I should be looking at?

Pretty sure Proxxon hand tools are either from Taiwan or China..

If you can throw down the extra bucks, that Stahlwille set will do you fine for your entire life. At least I'm pretty certain. I really wasn't aware that Wiha made wrenches. Maybe I'm too focused on the screwdrivers and whatnot :D
