The ball-peen hammer is from.... well i cant really remember now as Ive had it a long time, for some reason i have the feeling its from Beta tools, as there is a dealer near me, and i remember them saying the maker was a sponsor of Ferrari and used by them etc, Plus they used to send reps to my work. :headscrat, its french made though so odds on its Facom, or a re-branded Facom...

Also two Thor copper and copper/hide mallets, made in England :D

i like the fact the weight of the head is cast into the iron part, nice weight to them and they last a long time, this manufacturer seems to be the most common one for these type of mallets in my area, well it was last time i was shopping for one (these were bought 4 or so years ago, as you can see never been used)

also not quite an old world tool as i think its prob made in china, but i did this to my small bench vise

IMG_0478.jpg

it is/was a seally branded one, (has been repainted by me)

so now I need a new..(or old) better quality one

wasn't even putting that much strain on it when it failed :bounce:

@servito : good drills collection:thumbup: Are you in wood business ?

@Ratchet : Nice English Thor mallet, i always considered this famous brand:thumbup:

ps : Sadly, almost all if not all modern vises are casted. Try to find a pre WW2 forged vise:drool:

Look on eBay for a Made in England Record. Not the new world ****, an old Sheffield one. Built like a brick ****'ouse. My No. 25 was £100 delivered in good used condition. It's a beast of a vice.

Yup bidding on an old no3 one at the moment (similar in size to the one i broke) i'll get a bigger one for heavier stuff as well :D

@AutomatiquE

Thanks, yeah there really nicely made, i had one before, which was well used from the time i started my apprenticeship at 16 till it got stolen (no idea why as it was well beaten up by then)

was the same as the hide/copper combo in my pic, good weight to them and nicely put together, old school alternative to the dead blow hammers that are more common now i guess

The copper eventualy mushrooms, but i 'think' you can get replacements, or could at one point

I am new here, and have been reading through this thread for days now.. :bounce: Great stuff. Although I am Portuguese, I live in the USA.

I've always been that guy that bought the cheapest possible tools to get the job done. Every time I would ask my father to come over to help with a project (he is an electrician, retired now..) he would shake his head and roll his eyes upon seeing my pitiful made in Taiwan or China disposable tools. Occasionally he would give me some tools, out of pity apparently :headscrat
I have some Vise-Grip pliers, the old USA made version, and a few other decent tools he gave me.

But now I have seen the light :shocking: and now own mostly decent quality tools, the majority US made. I am not a pro, just a weekend tinkerer, but full-time IT guy, and part-time watch work.. I use many types of tools throughout the week. I own mostly Craftsman tools, Craftsman Pro screwdrivers, Moody screwdrivers, some odd Husky, Kobalt, some older Stanley, Crescent, Fuller, etc.. and a few eBay acquired MAC and Snap-on bits and pieces. This thread inspired me to check my tools for "old world" tools..

I discovered I have several German tools: wrenches, mostly from my old Mercedes-Benz 190E toolkit, and some from my father.

I was excited to find some Gedore and Felo wrenches, but was soon disappointed to see "made in India" stamped on the back .. they look old, I guess they have been outsourcing for a while
be3.jpg

Hapewe pliers.. made in Germany, from the Mercedes-Benz kit
be3.jpg

Felo screwdriver with interchangeable tips from the Mercedes-Benz kit

Heyco and Walther wrenches.. I thought Walther only made guns for British secret agents? :headscrat :wtf: :bounce:

Heyco 19mm lug wrench from the Mercedes-Benz kit

A Cornwell flat head screwdriver (very faded markings) that has seen "light use".. :bounce: made in Germany (anyone know who the OEM is for this?)

A 6" Sears adjustable wrench (NOT marked Craftsman) made in Japan
be3.jpg

A vintage Stanley 10" adjustable wrench, made in Spain

A Vaco (Klein) torx driver. Not sure where this is made, no COO markings..
and an Okit driver.. never heard of this before.. Asian made perhaps? Also no COO markings..
be3.jpg

My latest acquisition, Wiha screwdrivers. Made in Germany, so it says on the handle.. but WAIT, the packaging says assembled in USA? :headscrat WTF?
Which is it?
be3.jpg

be3.jpg

be3.jpg

Some other, smaller sized Wiha 000 and 00 Phillips, used for computer work mostly. A Craftsman torx driver, made in France.
be3.jpg

Some watch tools (I have many of these) mostly Swiss, Bergeon, Horotec, some AF made in France, Horotec drivers on a Bergeon stand. Very nice, but expensive screwdrivers for watch work.
be3.jpg

A vintage KWM crystal/bezel press for watches, made in Germany..
be3.jpg

Of course, now I am on the lookout for more European and especially German tools. I was at my local Sears today and found some Knipex pliers, made in Germany, and some Craftsman branded pliers also made in Germany (which looked like Knipex also..). I also ordered a Facom 3/8" ratchet set for the car. This thread is a bad influence. :bounce:

Whats the quality like and is it made in England?

They're very good. I have one and it bites like a mofo. Used to have another one with a 2' pipe hammered onto the handle, i used it for turning seized steering track rods and it worked great.
I've just found an old one of these, in a box of tools I picked up for a mate. I'll see if I can post up pics of this and other old English tools.

You can get replacements, although apparently you need a 'custom made' tool to open out the lip of the head, to get the face off. You should be able to make it yourself if the manufacturer's site is anything to go by though. Refacing Thor Hammers

I've been wanting a set of those hammers for ages, but the prices here for them make your eyes water - about 10GDP more for the size one, and 20-30GDP for the size three - :shocking: So I had a waaaaa moment about it, and then decided to get them next year when we're in the UK. :)

I was looking for 30mm 12pt. socket for homemade special tool to be made. I didn´t want to buy a new one, so I headed to local flea market and found what I was looking for. Socket is Kampmann and made in Germany. I´ve never hear such make before.
Cost 2,5€

I also found old Japanese 1/4 drive socket set. The set itself was useless, but it included unused 10mm Stahlwille socket and extension. Cost was only 5€

I have an odd Kampmann socket also. Think I got it at boot sale in the UK. 17mm. Apologies for crappy pics.

Saw a "wall of Hazet" today:

This was my bounty:

Anfu1Tv

Some of the stuff came from Heisse Nüsse to my parents place, though. Including the set with the missing 14mm. A replacement socket is on the way.

The Knipex was on sale and I couldn't pass it up... :bounce:

Sorry for the cell phone pics and stitching...

WOW!! Nice haul!

So much to love about that stuff - the brake line wrenches, 610s, 802s... I have a few of the same pieces, but that's quite a nice purchase!!

Thanks a bunch, guys!

I've been wanting the 610s for years and those break line wrenches seemed too neat to pass up. The bit ratchets are really nice, as well. While i usually prefer Dual80 ratchets, for the small stuff it doesn't matter that they only have 20 teeth. My little Assistent will be all tricked out when I get home.

The main problem now is that the guy at the store also gave me a paper Hazet catalog... Forget Penthouse... :D

Well, I can help if it is an Spanish manufacturer http://www.jbctools.com/, otherwise I think you won't sleep anymore :bounce:

thanks !! Didn´t know that company ! Now i can go to bed :D

That's really cool, you save large amount$$$$ on home repairing, don't have to rely on any neighbour to help on doing any work and you can learn something from him.

....and i can borrow all of his tools... :D ;)

Surely the soldering irons will be like some computer displays, with a working hours counter embedded, so you won't need to ask your father anything :lol_hitti

That actually would be a good idea for soldering stations which often have already a digital display - for warranty purposes

You mean that he does the cleaning, too???:wtf: :lol_hitti

sure :) ;)

On how much has he drunk, or how much have you drunk? ;)

if you talk to Lego figurines like i do then you have drunken too much :D

ps: The Craftomat drill bits are made by Koch Bohrer.

How interesting. :) All mine have been USA made, are they still made in France?

i think they still have a production in France.

Also two Thor copper and copper/hide mallets, made in England :D

Nice Thor hammers !

also not quite an old world tool as i think its prob made in china, but i did this to my small bench vise

nice vise with swivel jaw !
:D

PS: Try a drop forged vise....available from Ridgid and Heuer for example

Do you have some pics with the suction cups/holder attached to your Assistent ?

Nice bit ratchets too ! The line wrenches are cool too ! I want :D

Yes, the "fork" is plasti-dipped. Plastic is quite hard. Should hold up well. Got it because the two PB Swiss ones I have are smaller.

The suction cup holder is loosing the cups and gaining an aluminum plate customized to hold 1/4" and 3/8" sockets, bits, ratchets, and screwdrivers. That'll let the Assistent handle all common metric tasks which don't need anything bigger than a 19mm. I'll post picks when its all done.

The light wasn't my idea, Hazet used to do that. The vise was my idea, you know how sometimes you need 3 hands... The way the light is mounted it it very easy to install and remove, so you could have several accessories and just swap them out. Hazet also makes a document table and the windshield mount zuspiel has. And other people custom make mounts for other things...

good to know

I hope the "assembly" involved more than just packaging? Maybe the handles and drivers put together in the US? Seems a strange setup. What could possibly be the benefit? Cheaper labor in the US? Less QC?

Today my father gave me (ok, I asked him to gave :) ) this nice Felo magazine bit holder. Made in West Germany, I think it's about 20 years old. Four of eight Felo bits were damaged, so I replaced them with Wera, and I replaced the original bit extension too with another one with locked socket.
Nice Felo:drool:

Welcomes friend!
Very nice tools collection congratulation!

Thank you mrtools!

Here is a link where Facom go through their manufacturing locations:

Thank you Clouseau! So Facom ratchets are made in Italy? I read somewhere in this thread that they were made in France or Taiwan.. not that it is a big deal where it is made. I'm just curious. My oldest ratchet is a no brand made in Taiwan and it is about 20 years old and has been used and abused and still works.

Nice Wiha stuff. I think most of thier products are a great value and usually German made. My bit sockets from them are German bits, Asian sockets, US rail and assembly.

Here is the light's label:

Those Hazet are new (and small) and I have only used them for some light duty. The Channellocks have been beat to hell for years. Not a pretty or elegant tool, but they work well. I think Knipex or especially NWS are probably better than either for quality and detail.
