Here are "documentary" from Ferrari Factory, where at that time one of first 458 Italias is in production line.
Note, how much of human touch is involved, (and look the tools :bounce: )

I have visit Ferrari factory two times,

The Foundry, If you work this particular indastry, you understand how difficult stuff it is made perfect parts out of "boiling" aluminium, these guys have being doing it for more then 60-years.
Ferrari has made all it's engines from start and there are many hundres of different models. Specially like X-ray machine, it sures that parts are exactly what they should be. I also saw casting of F1 engine.

mechanical works
It surprice how low noise plant this was, and how clean. from 1982 this part of plan has being mostly filled with robots but before that it was all hand made. Modern engines can not be made without tools like that.

Engine Assembly

bodyshell area (Or compleatly diffrent factory; Scaglietti)
When I visit this factory, first thing was how it all starts; A man place peace of aluminium tube to jig and starts to TIG weld other aluminium tubes to it. (Welding machines are excatly same you migth use) few years ago THERE WAS NO ROBOTS in this factory and workers where very proud that they got SELF MOOVING production line. Before that workers used to push cars to next stasion, how they have done it for 50-years.
What you do not see, how bodypanels are hand crafted to car.
I see, worker are very proud for theyr firts robot in this factory.

paint shop (basicly you can't visit this factory, as it is dust sensitive)

Assembly line (it just blows your mind, how hand crafted these cars are)
part1
part2
One of my 25- year old Ferrari still got chalk markings on door frame where Ferrari worker has maked drilled holes on door, so he/her can drill holes to door sill, so it can be srew in plase.

After this cars are tested on roads, every morning you wakeup sound of five roadtest cars to start, what a way to wake up!

Too bad that this is not possible anymore. Due to the spy thing that happened recently at the F1 area, the factory visits are practically impossible. As far as I hears also for customers. Last time I was in Modena this year, it was possible though to get a private 3 hour visit to the Maserati production though.

Next time: Lamborghini ;-)

I got exactly same set and prise was 24€. I really like these pliers, but how these compare NWS ones?

They compare like that:
:D

Here are "documentary" from Ferrari Factory

cool videos !!!!!

I like the handles on the other one better. I haven't been able to find that set on gedoretools.com and a single pair of those pliers seems to be ~$45 us. Oh well, I'll stick with NWS.

I ended up ordering a recoilless hammer and an engineers hammer from Gedore while I was browsing though. :)

NWS pliers should get the job done too :)

pics please when the hammers arrive :)

I had another gun from Germany I really liked Heckler & Kock VP70.

Ahhh you had a VP70 ?! Good  That's an other piece of German engineering:bounce:

I don't think it was legal because when you added a stock it would fire 3 round bursts. :)

No. Only the VP70 "M" (Militar) had the mechanism built into the frame/slide allowing the use of a stock with the 3 round burst position. The HK you had was the VP70 "Z" (zivil = Civilian). It still have a plug into the frame for installing a stock, but no full auto mechanism inside:headshake

I didn't like the long heavy DAO trigger but it felt good in my hand and held like 19 rounds.

Yep, very heavy trigger. Do you know the story of the VP70, "Volks Pistolen 1970", People's gun 1970 ? A strange and mysterious story : in late 60's the West-German Gvt asked Hecker&Koch to develop a gun destinated to German civilians in case of a Soviet invasion. The Gun had to have a large Magazine capacity and a very heavy trigger to avoid accidental gunshots from non trained civilians:D Also this was the first ever gun to use polymer for the frame (because of its low cost), a long time before the Austrian Glock:thumbup:

Back to topic:)

Here are "documentary" from FerrariFactory

Very interresting videos, didn't know about Aluminium engines parts casted in sands:wtf: Thanks a lot:thumbup:

Interesting, had I known it was semi only I would have kept it.

Was visiting the hospital today and seen some interesting stuff.

While I wait, here are some recent purchases. I few NWS pliers and a set of Wera screw drivers.

I wasn't 100% sold on the ergo pliers, but they've actually come in pretty handy and saved a bunch of time while working on my 911. So, I'll probably get another pair of them.

no, i didn't "have" one, was only issued one for a few months, mine had Manurhin and french police markings, even had a threading for a flash/sound suppressor and came for a test(read "play" since it was too expensive for deployment) phase... :bounce:

wonderful gun, relatively flat, with low recoil... i put something like 30k rounds through it at the time!

last ones i saw were in a DST armory long time ago... like more than 15 years ago! :)

it still makes me cringe when i see a MAT49 or worse, a MAC50! :lol_hitti

as a sidenote, french army & police have a strong history of choosing the worst guns except when they get it right(MR73, FR-F1/2, PAP-F1, etc.), sadly that's once every twenty years or so and only with low-level deployment ones... a bit like the Snap-On, Armstrong, CDI and other quality american-made tools that were provided with weapon systems and were systematically discarded when delivered, in favor of "french made" tools... :spit:
(see, there's some tool content here! :lol_hitti)

MAS35 then... better get a SIG P-210(see? the MAS35 was hampered by a lousy calibre choice and then the swiss got it right with their version!)

I don't like the new P210. Too heavy. You should find a vintage second hand, Swiss made, there are plenty in US.

Haven't seen one for sale locally(people tend to not resell Swiss guns...)

I do have this(can't remember if I have pics in this thread.)

I found my mother's old one and I got my card reader to work(too much dust in it I think.) :) I'm waiting to see what specials are at Christmas and I'll get a Japanese made Sony. :) Failing that I am getting a new Logitech webcam(they use up less bandwidth in my photobucket account...) with Carl Zeiss optics for Christmas. :)

ps: nice bit set ! Did you already try it ? Is the bit holder good ? Or out of round (wobble ) ?
....

I didn't used the bit holder yet. Actually I haven't the right driver to use it. However, it seems to be quality and the bit secures very well and without spaces. When I have the proper driving handle I'll tell you.
But I have used the bits, with the bit adaptor, and I'm very satisfied. Not the best I suppose but very good and inexpensive for what it is.

I also have this cheaply magnetic screwdriver.

Been working in a Volvo main dealer this week, they have some nice brand new Volvo special tools. Interesting countries of origin, many from Sweden (as you'd expect) but many from other countries, mostly EU.

I've even ordered some for myself! :D

Very few have the manufacturer mark on them, only Volvo marking and part numbers. I've ordered an LTR (Leitenberger) pressure & vaccuum pump, which is one of the few i saw with a manufacturer mark.

When i get a tour of the flagship dealership workshop i'll get more pics. :)

@ Cosmic You had a Jatimatic?!?!?!? Those are awesome Finnish sub guns. I would love to have one. BTW are you familiar with MAT49?

Honestly; I did not know Jatimatic came from my country...

One I do know is products of Aimo Lahti, If you can find documentary from this character it is really worth looking for. Guy had it all; Job offering from around globe, best know-how for weapons in that time, goverment "pension" and really like to party like there is no tomorrow.

"when allied commision arrested him after war and bring him to allied commision for hearing. Aimo Lahti was very amused that he was arrested and guarded by weapons; he desing and got royalty from. So he ask from allied Soviet head of commision; "Are things so bad in Soviet Union that you have to use rental weapons?" keeping in mind that commisiion had absolute power in Finland after war."

These are just... something else.

I was told; they used to shoot these things while standing... Skis are also there for reason.

How much is one of those?

$45.18, at the current exchange rate. You can get a very nice camshaft setting bar, made in Hungary, for $8.42 though!

Will do, should have it mid next week. It will go nicely with my Leitenberger cooling system pressure tester. :)

They also have an awesome Nike Hydraulics spring compressor with Klann jaws and an air-over-hydraulic pump. Serious bit of kit!

I've also ordered a special pump from automatic transmission fluid (I believe made by Leitenberger, based on the fittings used.), a special prybar for gearbox shift linkages and one of those sockets for diesel fuel filter housings. Not cheap, £180 for the lot.

lol

The Logitech is a Swiss brand. ;)

I looked but they all have $1200+(most in the 10s of thousands...) price tag...

That´s reasonable

I may get this next year...

Nice:thumbup: What's the reputation of Cimco in Germany ? Any Coo on package ?

Cimco offers special tools for electricians like Klauke for example. They´re only available through specialised stores hence they have a good reputation like other special tools manufacturers/"tradesman only" tools. (Weidmüller etc.)

no coo. I guess they´re italian www.piergiacomi.com

I've been running into a bit of Robertson lately, so I decided to pick a set of Weras up in #00-#4 during Chad's Wera weekend sale a few weeks ago. As I've come to expect from Wera, they are quite nicely made, and conformance to the Robertson color code is a nice touch. They seem to fit the Robertson screws I have on hand quite nicely. You can tell how many of these get moved from the warehouse -- all but the #4 and #2 have the old cross logo. The #0 is actually stamped "Made in Germany," though the others are all marked Czech Republic. (Except the #00 has no COO marked.)

Let's see your ACR phillips do picture #1, especially. :bounce:

Ok :) There is a Volvo dealer(heavy trucks) in my community do you think they could/would get me those items? Or should I order online?

Interesting.

I heard the Soviets thought that the Finns shot them when skiing but really it was just to move it quickly?

Also I looked into buying a parts kit for one of those 20mm guns a while back but I couldn't find a machinist to make me a reciever... They are banned in USA for having a bore over .50(12.7mm) caliber but I think they are legal in Canada.

Also I know the Suomi M31. I've held one at the mall. I'm waiting to find one on sale like I did with the Skorpion before I get one. I'll find the pic I have...

There is another Finnish gun I want after I get all the SMG and assault rifles on my wish list. :)

Anyone ever seen a Belzers wrench? I'm thinking its German but no COO on it?

I got one sitting in my toolbox right now, I think I feels a little better then most of the other stuff in my box. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow.
