KS tools headquarters is about 20 min form my house in Frankfurt. They do not make tools as they do not have a factory. They import all the tools form apex, just rebranded ks for EU.

They are good quality tools. And price well for a diy. No where near as expensive as Hazet or the other Germany brands. Most of their stuff comes form taiwan.

Or jump on the ratchet.
The square is interchangeable but i don't know how robust is the mechanism.

But Hetman is right. Buy a ratchet for you and your neighbors. Not only for them. So buy the hazet one. :D

I meant the female square, not the bone. It still may be interchangable as a repair kit but most ratchets have them ;) .

I only know GDR tools from the flea market so i can´t say much. The brands you see are either "Smalcalda" or "Radebeul". They had a file factory etc. and made all of their tools on their own, but you usually see these brands because afaik all or most of the tools were sold under these 2 brands made by several different factories because of their different system basically without competition etc. and with fixed prices so it was not necessary to sell the products under different names.
some items on ebay:
http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from...1313&_nkw=smalcalda&_sacat=See-All-Categories

OK, I thought that Smalcalda was BRD not DDR. So now I have two brands to look for. Any others?

That's part of the problem -they (the name plate and info plate stickers) were either never installed or have been removed. Price was just £44 shipped, so as long as it's not stolen (no way to know, but he's sold several and seems to have been selling them for quite a while), and it doesn't break with my occasional/DIY use, then I'm happy.
Wow!! that really good prices  congratulation for the purchased :)

No trouble at all. I'm not bitter about it - I've bought replacements and moved on (just need to get rid of the Brittol Expert stuff), but hopefully the comments will help someone else avoid the same disappointment :)
You right! your honestly comment is very useful here;)
I didn't know of the brand at all before immigrating to the UK, but when I started to rebuild my set of tools I did a bit of research and it seemed like a reasonable brand. I suppose I'm guilty as well of liking things that match or belong together (maybe a little bit OCD?), but it also helps that there tends to be some really good (or at least reasonable) deals on Facom stuff if you search hard.
:thumbup::)

It was 230 Euros. I am not in germany right now so I can not take a photo of the plate. But for that price I am pretty sure it is china. Metabo's lower price tools are made in china. I will check the next time I am home.
never check the COO first before you bought it?:D

I haven't posted lately--very busy summer--but of course I have been keeping up with you all! :D Here are a two 27 mm Bacho combination wrenches I found today for use with 1/2" BSPP (G-thread) hydraulic fittings we use in the air lines in the garden shed.
Angoo-ey happy!
Nice finish wrenches:drool::drool:

Wera Vario Ratchet, nice set. Easy too carry it with you.:rocker:
It looks so nice..awesome pics:bowdown:
do you use it? if yes, can you share your personal opinion about this ratchet driver..how smooth the ratchet?, too many wobble between handle and reversible bits shaft?

Starting with my favorite brand of pliers - KNIPEX. I own few of these. I personally like them better than NWS.
My NWS pliers. I like the cable shears on the right. They are very good for cutting thick cables.
The diagonal cutters/strippers in the middle are not so good. After short usage they started wobbling.
Awesome tools..and very nice pics thanks for posting:thumbup::beer:
I'm agree! you can feel a little bit tight and smooth joint with Knipex plier a little bit loose from NWS but I think a cutting is very sharp than Knipex. I love to own both:D
I like your Knipex composite plastic insulated long nose pliers, any Germany write at the tools?

USAG
My very first set of quality tools:
again.. nice tools:eyecrazy:
USAG
Tips of the two on the right - PZB/SE2 - pozidriv & slotted - for the fuses in electrical cabinets.
the very famous screw head in electrical installation, I think everyone working with electrical should have a set;)

I forgot these:
Same as the FACOM one
COO?

or buy Bosch :D ;)
maybe the import one..I can except Malaysian made Bosch power tools, it not as good as import one, but at least I'm very satisfied their quality made compare to PRC, honestly I hate PRC made Bosch power tools.:lol_hitti

You are not patriotic ? :D ;)
Shhhhhhttttt....maybe not in this case:D

they might have european made abrasives:
www.sg-abrasives.com
That nice one..:)

WTF happened to this drill ???:scared::eyecrazy::lol:
maybe my friend used it too harsh for a long run..the SDS chuck start hot and melt the plastic and the melted plastic stuck the ball retainer hole..

Flea market finds:
Nicholson, Metabo, Haupa, Bosch
nice:drool::thumbup:

Here are a few that my father recently handed down to me. Some date back to his apprenticeship in England ca. 1953
Nice car service kits wrenches..awesome collection:bowdown:

Nice old wrench, I like the Rolls Royce!
Here's my latest purchace, used but almost like new:
Awesome:bowdown:
my dreams wrenches..:bowdown:tried to get a set but it too expensive for me;)
how much do you pay for the wrenches, and what your personal opinion about the wrenches?

MrTool,

I was putting down a floor, needed it right away. For that price point, the other options were all chinese made of unknown brands. But it works well.

Here's my complete Campagnolo tool kit in the original wood box. I picked it up NOS on ebay for a song. I build custom bicycle frames, so the cutting tools are put to good use. Impeccable build quality on this kit, much better than my most recent tools from Park.

Campagnolo also makes the world's greatest wine bottle opener. It stands about 14" tall and comes in a wood crate. I'd say the bottle opener gets the most use of all!

My mistake. I didn't understand correctly. The broken mechanism is a completely different case from the male square. :)

You wellcome mrtools. :)

I just took some photos of some of my KNIPEX pliers.
The plastic VDE pliers 98 62 02:

KNIPEX 71 12 200, 74 06 180 & 86 05 250.
"GERMANY" is stamped directly onto the metal.

On my Lineman's Pliers 09 12 240 & X-Cut 73 06 160 "Made In Germany" is stamped onto the plastic insulation of the handles.

Awesome tools..and very nice pics thanks for posting:thumbup::beer:

The NWS's cutting edges really are sharper than the KNIPEX, but I like KNIPEX pliers better. :)

I have no idea where does that hammer came from, but it's pretty good.

the very famous screw head in electrical installation, I think everyone working with electrical should have a set;)
The others screws - PH-slotted are famous in low-voltage installations.

The ratchet is very smooth, feel little like the rapidaptor.

This package I bought to take with me in the car for example.
It takes very little space and you bring 12 different screwdrivers.
The wobbeling/ amount of play is not bother me at all.
Sure, I like regular screwdrivers better but this package is easy to take with them on the fly.

It would be ideal to have with you if you ride a motorcycle for example:thumbup:

Picked these up the other day. A complete vintage SK wrench set, and a Genuine Norlund cabin axe. This thing is 4 pounds and 30 inches long!

I like these way better, you can reverse the clamp to be a spreader as well. Not sure if the irwin can do that.

I don't have much really old (made in England) britool stuff, but these bits (not made in England -or at least not marked as such) seem alright considering they were bought for quite cheap.

I have some of the brand new Britool Expert stuff. I'm not a tool-snob, and not being English I have no nostalgic feelings about older Britool made-in-England tools, so I think I can fairly say without bias that they're some of the worst-finished name-brand tools I've ever laid eyes or hands on.

I bought the Britool Expert stuff thinking it'd be at least as good, if not slightly better, than Halford's tools (which get pretty good reviews). The Halfords stuff is actually far, far nicer.

Ill try and get some pics, but the chrome is poorly applied, chipping and looks really thin even on the "good" tools. This is on brand-new unused tools from a sealed package. I've set the Britool Expert stuff aside and will be selling it on. I will not buy another Britool Expert product at any price.

I sent an email directly to Britool inquiring whether I may have just got hold of some bad examples and questions about warranty. I've had no reply from them, and their website is rubbish and very slow to update so it really seems they (Stanley?) aren't putting much effort into supporting the brand beyond glossy brochure photos.

As a distributor of many different brands including Britool Expert and Facom, I am concerned by the comments on the quality and finish of these tools and disappointed that they didn't have the courtesy to reply to your email!
Please contact us directly (ask for Julian or Joe), if you bought these items from us, we have a 14 day unconditional satisfaction policy and will always refund items returned that do not meet expectations. (Even though the 14 days have gone, I would like to think we can do something to help).
We are independent and do not really want to get into a situation of defending or slagging off any brand - that is for you guys the professional users to do, but we must listen to comments both good and bad and I will personally pass these directly through to the senior management at Stanley UK.
I would just say that (without entering the politics etc of Stanley launching the "Expert" brand under different names around Europe), that it is intended to run as a 2nd range to Facom and priced to compete with other brands such as Teng. It has a place in the market and is selling well, but I don't think it should be bought in place of, or compared with; Facom, Gedore, King ****, Stahlwille, Beta etc.

Nice old wrench, I like the Rolls Royce!

DSC01038Small.jpg

That is seriously nice found, not too expensive? (as those are, if you would buy set new today, some 250€)

Hey.
Regards, which ratchet is better, Carolus (price: 25 EUR) or PROXXON (cost 23 €)?

I would go for Gedore 1993 ALU-10
As normal steel ratchet weight 700g
Aluminium ratchet is only 350g and looks like normal steel ratchet!

I have never seen one or try out one, it is expensive but if you are market for new ratchet...

Tools in use...

First I did try out one of those American tools with nice Biltema (made in china or Taiwan) 6mm hex on that, nope... Snap on ratchet just jump over some thooth and become a museum artifact or hammer... Biltema socket and Toyota win.
attachment.php

Then just use those nice Wera Hex Plus socket key and it perfomed as usual (and not starting early retirement) with Hazet 600N 17mm

Stahlwille Flex 12mm end on use.
attachment.php

Throw in some more Hazet 19mm and Gedore 1997 Swiwel Handle
attachment.php

And finnished up with nice Beta 920/55 ratchet.
attachment.php

...and then found out that you got wrong set of front shocks and throw it all back together.
