Today's delivered treasure!

A pair of used Metabo angle grinders (ebay) with Made in Germany stamped on the body. These won't get loads of regular use, but they were cheap and it'll be nice to keep a cutting disk on one and grinding disk on the other. I need boxes now!

Wiha screwdrivers and hex drivers all marked Made in Germany (UK hot Deals thread if you're interested).

Facom punch set (again the UK hot deals thread) and some lightly used 44 series spanners (ebay) - both marked France (I wasn't sure what to expect on the punches so it was a nice surprise).

how much you paid for that pb set? and where you bought it:dunno:

Phillips are here (scroll all the way down):
http://toollady.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=60&vmcchk=1
Part numbers are:
605.1
605.2
605.3

Slotted are here (again, scroll all the way down):
http://toollady.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=59
Part numbers:
600.2
600.3
600.4
600.5

Total with shipping was something like $70. A bit pricey compared to, say, Wiha offsets, but they have nicer features. I'm not aware of anyone else making the phillips that only needs 45°.

Rusik. Are there any name specific tool only brands of socket and wrench sets from Russia or the older USSR? Or were they like many other things and made by companies that made just about everything?
Let me answer this question. Although I have left Russia many years ago, I still remember that there were no particular companies or brands that manufactured tools. However, there were huge factories that were making heavy machinery and military stuff, and they were making tools and tool sets as a side business. Virtually, there was no distinction between, say, two spanner wrenches manufactured by two different factories. They both would be stamped with sizes and “Made in USSR” in English or Russian. The manufacturer was only listed on cardboard packaging of the tools. I do not know much about current situation with tool manufacturing in Russia, but I believe that manufacturing in general is in great decline, and most tools are imported from Chiwan (China/Taiwan);). I hope this answers your question.

Something like this. Add. were special tool factories. Their products are no different in appearance from other plant products. Price could also be the same.
Now there are 2 plants. Make the products the same as they were 50 years ago.

these things are long, didn't measure them but there even longer then the pb swiss ones, could be handy for stubborn bolts (or encourage me to round them off :p)

second is this of older Habero "Redband" ballpeen hammers, kind of weird looking, the heads are machined (cant seen in that picture but you see where thy have been turned on a lathe) also have an odd way of securing the head to the shaft, via a roll pin, not entirely sure if that's a good way as it may make the shaft weaker at the head?

These seem to have been superseded by the redband plus ones which look a lot stronger

got these off ebay for someone who has been sellng a lot of old stock gedore stuff, cant recall their name but i think they have been mentioned on here, (think they are a gedore dealer)

set me back about £30 from what i remember

Impossible to find these now -I've been looking! I know the seller you mean - you probably out-bid me in the auction :lol_hitti

haha maybe, this was a good few months ago though and from what i recall no one else bid on them hence the low cost ... unlike the gedore euro style engineers hammers i wanted :p

He had a few more sets up from what i recall though so might be worth watching

edit:

this is the seller i got them from: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/allqualitytools1000/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

i think they may have two accounts as ive seen other Gedore items with the same wording, but it wasn't this seller

Yup those guys run Gedore UK out of premises up in Skipton.

Is this the style of hammer you were after? These are "Format" brand, made in Germany and very nearly identical to the Gedore/Habero brand. I bought them for I think <£5 each from tooled-up.com -they still have them on there.

Keep me in mind if you ever decide to part with the ball pein version :)

Found an Hazet 916S. (1/2 drive)
Thanks to a rebuild kit from JensPutzier
I got it back in good working order.

ts04.jpg

Is that what a Hazet 916 looks like with the soft grip removed? Or is it an earlier model which is made like that?
Looking at that handle makes me tempted to cut the soft grip off of my ratchet!

Kinda my thoughts too....most of the German stuff looks very good to me, but usually I'm working in tight areas, and the big fat handles get in the way. My hands can handle the "thinner" wrenches.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm really tempted to just replace the ratchet in my 900 set with a Snap-on S936 and be done with it!

Here it is at last; The eagerly awaited restoration of my Gedore-clone tool cart. Keen followers will recall that within the last few weeks I obtained this cart, in sound, but a bit sorry state:

View media item 22517
The picture doesn't quite do the dirt and grime any justice. Up close it was easy to see it had been ridden hard and put away wet. Here's what fell out of it when I turned it upside down:

View media item 22797
Right, now pay close attention -here's where we get to the seriously technical part of the restoration. I'll go through it step by step so it's reasonably easy to follow:

1) Roll the cart outside and hit it with the pressure washer.

2) Turn cart upside down and repeat with pressure washer.

3) Collect all the junk that has fallen out.

4) Blast the cart all over with WD-40 and wipe with a rag.

5) Return cart to garage.

6) Cut cheap rubberised mesh to line drawers.

7) Grab crusty old plywood from out the back of the garage and cut it to fit the top.

8) Mount 2-Euro Ebay-bargain vice to plywood top.

9) Load up with tools.

10) Take pictures and post on the internet.

Everybody still with me? Let me know if I need to go over any of those steps in more detail.

Right now on to the photos. Don't get discouraged if your efforts don't turn out so well at first - you'll get there eventually with patience and practice:

Great job! I'm glad you chose to keep it original, because no matter how many times you make it new, it's only original once. Plus, the patina tells a story, which one would hate to erase unnecessarily.

Haha cheers - I'm glad the first post wasn't somebody who maybe didn't get that I was joking about "restoration". I've got a brand new tool cabinet to keep pretty, so happy to have one that I can also use and not worry about scratching. I'm also far too lazy and talentless to have a go at any real restoration effort on something like a tool cart.

The crusty top really made the cart.

Seriously, it looks just right. Well done on the non-restoration.

Thanks! That look doesn't come easily. I had to carefully age that sheet of ply in the rain, snow and (very occasionally) sun over nearly two years! That, my friend, is what you call dedication...

Of course it was lovingly finished to furniture-grade with my cheap Chinese belt sander and a generous application of boiled olive oil.

Love that cart, vise and "restore".

That probably explains the Asian girl at 2:59 - it would seem that Knipex is not really German!!! :scared:

Indeed. Vice **** for sure. I see some interesting designs and features on some of those vices.

I'll post some pics of mine one of these days (I hope); interestingly, it's a Brazilian brand.

Here's a Heyco water pump type plier. I'm wondering if this was part of an auto kit? It's very light in weight.

Its a bmw toolkit plier
