i guess it depends on the country....in germany you mostly find imported no-name pliers in the big box stores, the professional dealers usually have Knipex, Hazet etc. or no-name german made locking pliers or Vise-Grip. Grip-On is not really available here, there was only one online store who offered them...Mostly you can find Grip-on pliers sold through other brands like Elora and Würth etc.

I guess what I meant wasn't what is the preferred source in Europe, but what made in Europe brand of locking pliers is the best.

Re: 610n/8 rs

Hopefully not a stupid question, but what's a "life" profile?

"Life Profile" is a term used by UNIOR which is something more or less like "Flank Drive" (first patented by Snap-On) or the OGV profile by Facom.

It extends the "life" of the fasteners.

http://uniortools.com/media/Attachments/Rocno_orodje/Eng/mini_katalog_2011/01_wrenches.pdf

I don't think this type of profile is new for Hazet but they never mention it in their catalog.

thanks

I saw an old post in this thread that Gedore was the only German brand making its own ratcheting wrenches. Is this still the case? The Hazets look uniquely Hazet is why I ask.

If you really need a wrench with automatic adjustment you should buy something like this (ridgid, reed, virax, proto, rothenberger...).

afaik yes. The Hazet wrenches are not listed as "made in Germany", the wrench also don´t say "Germany". So the theory is the complete wrench or at least the mechanism is from Taiwan...

That's true, unless you're including the older laminated types. :D ...but I assume you're not.

Given the high price they are sold for, I'm going to assume that the wrenches are forged and finished by Hazet and then sent to Taiwan (probably Lea Way (Gearwrench)) for assembly, and then sent back to Remscheid.

Here's a shot of Hazet 600N next to 606 model:

I like Russian products in general, I'm wearing an old Soviet made watch as I type this. I've likes Russian stuff since I was a kid, I don't really know why. :dunno:

That's a nice looking set you have there, and I like the photos of the ratchet mechanism. Pretty neat!

I'd be happy to help you out, what do you need?

Watch your tongue, Monte, I made a comment nearly like yours, but it has been deleted
If I have offended anyone with the post, please tell me...I did mention the Russian Lunar project in 1959, maybe thats a no-go on this site??? Just found it funny, the obvious difference between high-tech, and then these lo-tech tools.

New VBW style vs old VBW style.
Competitor is ordinary plier.
p1010415st.jpg

Span
p1010416o.jpg

p1010417z.jpg

1/2'' pipe
p1010433h.jpg

p1010434yt.jpg

3/4" pipe
p1010435wy.jpg

p1010436p.jpg

1'' pipe
p1010437h.jpg

p1010439mj.jpg

1 1/4" pipe
p1010441m.jpg

So for 1/2 and 3/4 old style is more comfortable (1" and 1,25" no difference).

BUT...
Old style plier can't grab 1" locknut. It is normal size nut (46mm).
p1010432h.jpg

New style can
p1010401ve.jpg

p1010402zg.jpg

result is
old ++
new +

If you are so strong that you can plumb 1" iron pipe with 10" pliers you can choose new VBW style.

Never the less you always can stand on them.:lol_hitti
p1010406f.jpg

ps.
smooth coating is not so good as knipex non-slip plastic coating
so:
old (good handle span on 1/2" and 3/4" pipes, knipex non-slip plastic coating) +++
new (can grip 1" full size locknut) +

Nice pliers!!!

I have actual 810SPC/6 set, and I must admit that the are great, mainly the price. For other hand, about the color change, I think that's is better because the actual version generally looks dirty. In fact, in the beginning I always cleaned the handle but now not

I always prefer European (and Japanese) ratchets version, over US version. But, always call my attention the fact that US versions come always with more teeths. After all rarely I need a ratchet with fine teeths.

I don't know, I think that this is more a marketing play

Ha, Now, the HAZET 8816F ratchet, is available again for here, just I need money for buying it.

916-1:
width: 41.9mm
height: 43.1mm

y it can be,all i know that my grandfather took them from the factory he used to work. it was back in 1951. lol

but you can see if they are dirty, the black ones might look clean but they might be dirty :);)

depends on how many teeth do you really need...maybe 60 or 72 are enough.....or 80..... oh wait there is a 88 tooth ratchet......and look now a 100 tooth ....and tomorrow a 360 tooth ratchet :D ;)

bought today
nice ! :beer::thumbup:
