I note the implication of being stamped 'Knipex Germany' and Made in Germany' too. The difference has to suggest they are trying to fudge it.

So one has to assume that by omission of either 'Knipex Germany' or Made in Germany', the 97 51 10 is NOT made in Germany.

So Knipex I can no longer trust. Sad.

sadly that's what happens when a company wants to offer a "complete" range of products, they shop around and add a hefty margin on an, usually, average product just for sticking their brand on it and/or to put it in a branded cardboard box, like the Jokari stuff that they resell too... :(
either that or they buy another brand that already has the know-how and the patents, like Würth with Felo and Gedore did with Rahsol and others. :D

if the product works fine like their other in-house made tools, you'll only have to swallow the sticker shock! :spit:

edit: was sure to have seen that one before:

592303016422781.jpg

since i should still own the same one without branding somewhere in my "past activity" toolboxes. worked well for what i remember but it's been a few years i haven't done son CAT5 or 6 cabling... :spit:

A lot of my Knipex pliers are stamped simply Germany, but the signature on the handles says "Made in Germany".
For example:

KNIPEX_Pliers_003.jpg

KNIPEX_01_06_190_002_zps03b8e15d.jpg

KNIPEX_74_91_250_001_zps762c51ef.jpg

The thing is that i also have *these*, which are exactly the same as your Knipex. I got them for 19 Euro here in Bulgaria and the Knipex pliers cost 41 Euro. My crimpers for BNC-connectors and for terminal connectors are also Pro's Kit and cost 1/7 of the price of the Knipex.

Just got this Metabo Sander a few weeks ago. Awesome.

What do you think are the best sanding discs? Metabo, Mirka? Others? I think the Mirka are made in Finland. I may've used these as rebranded discs, but don't remember the name.

Normally use the 3M for 40 grit on my old Porter Cable (which I think needs new bearings -- if they're even available -- it's an older US model from the 90's) or the Norton from Canada (from Home Cheapo).

Also got the detailed sander a while back and haven't used it much but do like the Metabo discs for that.

Are the imperial sockets/spanners of any use in Europe ? I have more than 50 AF/BS Gedore items and must decide what to do with them.

Classic American/English cars I do not think I will restore.

Open end ratcheting wrench designs go back a very long time. There's a US Patent filed Oct. 26, 1914 by a W. Kaylor, #1,138,572 thats cited for the Facom ratcheting wrench patent. There's another US Patent filed Aug. 5, 1932 by E. Z. Miquelon, #1,954,141 for an open end ratcheting wrench that's much more similar to the current Facom open end ratcheting wrenches. There are decades old Snap-On wrenches with Ratcheting open ends as well though I'm not sure exactly how far they go back.

This is the Kaylor patent.

This is the Miquelon patent.

Your wrench is similar to a patent filed Nov. 21, 1921 by E. E. Lynch ET AL, #1,533,602. This style of wrench was sold as the Heller Masterench.

US Patent.

:headscrat Hmmm...a good question... Newer cars and stuff are all metric. Some bicycle stuff are imperial. But if it wasn´t for my old Range Rover, I could do just fine with metric. But what´s the problem? You can never have too many tools :D Or keep just the ½", 7/16" and 9/16" - these sizes always comes in handy.

nice sander ! i have the SXE 425 which is very nice too, powerful and almost no Vibration.

A buddy (car painter) says Mirka, many people say Festool, i´ve just tried some SIA sheets which work good too.... Norton...Hermes....there are so many ... :)

maybe Keep one set.... you never know... maybe a imperial wrench will fit a rusted or damaged nut or bolt better than a metric wrench...? Or you decide to buy a Harley when you retire one day ;)

Deep inside the forest
there's a door into another land,
here is our life and home.

We are staying
here forever in the beauty of this place
all along, we keep on hoping...

Maybe,
there's a world
where we don't have to run,
and maybe,
there's a time we'll call our own,
living free in harmony and majesty,
take me home, take me home.

Thanks Monte. Knew I could get a couple of additional recommendations from you. Hadn't heard of SIA or Hermes. I think Norton makes different levels of quality -- this is just a guess: but I wouldn't be surprised if some (perhaps more than some) of the stuff one gets from Home Depot is a spec'd at a lower quality because of the pressures on price when HD is buying this stuff from vendors.

Hermes for example makes the sanding discs for the Fein Multimaster. They operate 3 plants in Germany, Austria and the USA.
SIA (www.sia-abrasives.com/grco/us/en/us_main.php ) is maybe not so common but Bosch branded sandpaper "Made in Switzerland" is made by SIA as well as the Bosch woven abrasives "Made in UK". (Bosch owns SIA). Bosch offers a DIY line as well as Norton (www.nortonabrasives.com "DIY/Residential") but usually a specialized professional product offers better performance and lifetime because they have a anti-clogging coating or a different stronger backing and higher quality grains:

Any photo unpacked?

yes, here are some pics of the Mannesmann tool box:

I don't need them a lot, but after using a screwdriver or some cheap pliers, I thought it was time for a good set of retaining ring pliers.

How do you rate them ? They come on pretty cheap

it´s so-so..... just broke a T-45 bit today while installing the front bumper on a VW Passat using a 1/2" ratchet.... The side cutters don´t cut 100%.... the T-handles seem to be nice so far.... you get what you pay for i guess....
