I see they source their handtools from all over the place. Hazet, Wera, Heyco, Newtools, Gedore... Some under own name, some under original brand. I'll be on the lookout for some cheap used Förch ratchets made by Hazet. :evil:

Waterpump pliers and pipe wrenches are my addiction ! :rocker:

Nice collection man!

I just thought I would compare my different 3/8 drive ratchets:

Nice review Alfajuj, thanks.

tools after action

They look much nicer than the shiny new ones.

My dads 30 year old Gedore 3/4 sockets 50mm, 36mm and 30mm. From his half complete set

Nice! :rocker:

Josiah we want more, close-up pics from your fathers tools. :)

:rocker::rocker:
Nice! Lok i quess is a local purchase, right? Please tell me how much did you pay for it to compare with my dealer.

Correct. I get from my dealer 100 euro but the price was only for me. The better price that you can get for this, is 123 euro through the gedore magic catalog.

Monte nice pics. The new Bosch brushless 10,8 drill are sooo nice :drool:

Some old British made tools

Elliott Lucas "Elect' insulated needle nose pliers

Made in Cannock England which isn't far from where i live, seems the "s" in Lucas had worn out or broken on the stamp :p (doesn't look to have worn off/corroded either)

Handles are apparently tested to 10000volt, not sure i will put that to the test :lol_hitti

Interesting how thin the coating on the handles is for insulated pliers, in comparison to modern VDE ones at any rate.

They were a bit corroded when i got them but have cleaned up nicely, they look worse in the pictures if anything.

Incidentally Elliott Lucas still seem to be around, in name anyway, not sure where they are made these days though.

Also a 'set' of half inch drive Swinborne A/F sockets from 5/8"ths thru to 1-1/4",

They aren't quite a complete set as i had the 5/8" before, and got the inch socket separately, both of them have slightly different markings, with "CPC" stamped on them instead of what appears to be a part number
(seems Swinborne were part of or later became part of Chicago pneumatic, information about the company/brand is sadly very hard to come by, and most of what i know is based on my own research)

I am unsure what size range these were originally available in, or infact what era they date from but I'm constantly on the look out for more, they do crop up on ebay on occasion and at swapmeets/autojumble etc

The inch socket in particular seems to have had little use

Broaching on a couple of the sockets is far from pretty, the CPC marked ones are nicer finished (possibly later?) they do feel nice and the outside of the sockets is well finished.

those push through ratchets remind me of a miniaturized pipe threader die stock

I know that Dowidat had branched off from Gedore in 1949 and then many years later disappeared. They made some very excellent tools while they were still around.
Do you have any idea of the year of that ratchet?

Good stuff.
Do they give out any freebies like stickers or % off coupons on your next purchase at any of these shows ?
i got a free Festool folding ruler and some booth had pens or Haribo gums or cookies etc. :) Some tools were offered at special "exhibition prices".

Does the Fein drill use the Festool Centrotec system?
No, the Fein spindle has a larger diameter so the Centrotec chuck don´t fit.

You can do this though: :) But the fitment is too sloppy

you can use the Centrotec system on the Metabos (but not vice versa)

But i guess in the future Festool will offer their "new" 4-speed drill in the US too so you can use the Centrotec system and have a 4 speed drill:

Please post a report on those auto center punches. I'm in the market for one of those.

They are great! Of the 3, i recommend the middle one for most general jobs. It has just the right amount of punch force. The small one is good for objects softer than metal, maybe wood or drywall. The large one takes a lot of force to push down and makes a pretty large punch. I think the middle is just right.

You bought the Fein then Monte!!?? What do you reckon to it?
yup:D .... drill holes and drive screws :D Since i don´t own a larger cordless drill (i only have a 10,8 volt tool and a old 12 volt NiCd drill) it was necessary to buy one :) So i looked at every tool available here. The only ones i liked were the Festool T-series, Fein ASCM and the Protool DRC. Since i like the brand Fein and their tools and this drill and because i need a impact wrench too i ended up with the Fein drill. So now i can use the 10,8volt tool for low to medium duty work and the 18 volt tool for medium to heavy duty work. There are nice medium sized brushless tools available from Dewalt or Makita but i thought it´s better to buy a heavy duty tool and this one is still relatively light with about 2,1 kg while 3-speed competitors are often about 2,3 to 2,5 kilo and up to 250mm long while the Fein is only ca. 225mm long and without chuck only about 180mm and 270 gram lighter. The tool is also well balanced while competitors are usually top-heavy. And it matches my coo requirements :D

It should be an "interim" report, but until I have this complete, I´ll be old and grey...

Holy cow, mac_intosh!!!:wtf:
That is absolutely amazing! When are you going to hang it up?
Just be glad that you are located in Germany trying to put that set together.
If you were in Taiwan, like me, it would surely kill you.

Is that hacksaw more recent compared to the other tools?

Can you post some close up pics?

Just like me, it looks like you're having trouble getting 600 series combination wrenches.
Join the club. All those VW and Porsche guys have driven the prices into the stratosphere.

Congratulations on what you have so far :rocker:

@Alfajuj

It was a lucky find, but there were only 4 Hazet tools in it. Okay, I should not whine about searching the fitting tools, it´s like an exciting adventure...

Yes the saw is a newer model, the old one has an aluminum grip (didn´t find the right one yet), but all the other tools are the right ones - small "a".

I´ll post close up photos when it´s hanging, may take a while.

And yes, the 600 series seems to be quite rare these days, but there is an old workshop I have in mind, where I might find some missing parts.

@Formel1

This pliers is for bending teeth from a saw in the right angle. It´s very nice ornamented, maybe from the 1920´s or earlier. The company "Cimco" is still present in Remscheid: www.cimco.de .

It is a saw set. I use mine from time to time. Especially on my bow saw.

If you find a source for old 600's, you have to promise to tell me :D
I don't even need the old small "a" ones. The last version of the line with the forged in sizes before the 600N appeared are fine for me. ;)

Hunting down old tools can definitely be an adventure! For me, being American, hunting down old Plomb or Snap-On is about ten times easier than old Hazet, though. Most of my collection is circa 1980's-90's not 1950's-60's like you. My hat is off to you.:thumbup:

I would love one of those Hazet tools storage in my garage. Unfortunately, I have not seen one in the US.

That type of tool storage makes sense if it's a one man shop or if the boss owns the tools and the techs use the boss's tools.
In America, the culture is for the technicians to own their own tools, so they all have their personal roll cabs.

That type of wall storage is the ultimate for a tool nut to have in his private garage! Useful and on display at the same time.
The only downside is that it forces you to fill it exactly according to their design, otherwise it looks wrong...

@Hazet :)

I can imagine that! I might could find out if they ever exported these to the US, but thinking for the shipping costs in these days, I doubt it and unfortunately it would not help you either - unless a bit more hope.

Would you be willing to share with us what that unit cost you?
Was it a hard-fought auction to the highest bidder?
Or was it some old lady who gave it away for 10 Euros?
Or did you and your hired band of ninjas steal it from the Hazet museum in the middle of the night?
We'd all love to hear about it.

I think the "chrome" that is chipping is actually silver paint. Some manufacturers seem to paint the insides of their sockets.

This doesn't look like paint, it is Chrome chipping that you expect after a couple years of hard use, but not after 5 times.

@LeGarage

can you return it for refund or replace ? - if not just send Gedore some pictures for there quality management department - maybe they answer and replace the socket and keep us informed.
