Monte, How do you like your Fein Impact driver? I was in the market for one and was tempted to buy the Fein. In the end I went with a Hilti 18v along with Hilti's hammer drill, but the Fein impact still intrigues me.

I run a hockey rink and hockey Pro-shop, where a Fein Sales Rep's son plays travel hockey out of. I've known the Sales Rep for years and he is a very good friend of mine. Whenever he needs something hockey related I take care of him and he returns the favor. He sold me a Multimaster Top for $100usd two months ago. And every two weeks since he drops off a bag of all kinds of blades and ask me if I'm running low on any others. None of which he ever lets me pay for! I recently gave him an incredible deal on a pair of hockey skates for his son that retails for over $800; He called me yesterday to see if I was in need of a new Fein Turbo shop-vac... FOR FREE .

Now I just can't wait to see if its the Turbo 1, 2, or 3

This is what´s called comparative marketing, which is forbidden in many countries. You are not allowed to sell a product by saying "it´s better than x".
And how could you know that the test was made in a prober way?
I´m sure IR could make a video showing the opposite result.

In the U.S., you can do any kind of comparison you want. But we have the Lanham Act. So if you think somebody lied about your product, you can sue.

Here's my Fein shop-vac that was given to me today!

I also picked up a few Mora knives on Amazon a few days ago. I wanted a nice small razor sharp knife I can use to field dress game and make small precise cuts that a larger knife would just not be practical for. The Scandinavian grind on these knives are perfect for my needs, and they are very light weight, enough that I could use them as a neck knife. At $13 they are very inexpensive and a great value. When ever I buy something off amazon I find myself adding a Mora knife to the order . I've given three away to my friends and they both now bring them anytime we go hiking, camping, or out to the hunting cabin,

Although i have little experience of professional shops, i'll say it's the same thing in sweden. It's 1/2" and 1/4" that is used. That is what people have in their garage and it's the biggest part of what is offered in shops. Most tool kits aimed at hobbyists consists a 1/4" and a 1/2" set, with mostly metric sockets. Personally i would say 98% of my ratchet usage is those sizes also.

I have this Hazet torque wrench (5-60Nm), but I was a bit surprised it had a 3/8" drive:

That's why I also needed the 3/8" to 1/4" adapter for it:

I like my Fein impact very much ! It removed all screws/nuts i tried, except a crankshaft nut (it "only" has 250 NM). It´s made by TTI/Milwaukee so if you don´t plan to buy a Fein cordless drill you might want to look into the new Milwaukee Fuel (270 NM). But Hilti should get the job done too Which one do you have ? SIW 18-A ?

Seems like you should investigate what your customers are doing ? Maybe there are Festool or other reps among your customers ?

If there was also a Festool Rep among my customers I would be golden . Though at one time there was also a Snap-On dealer who was good friends with the owner (at the time) of the rink so all of our tools to maintain the rink and Zambonis were 100% Snap-On. Including a nice Snap-On triple bay tool chest to house everything.

What really impresses me about Fein's impacts is that the 1/2in impact driver looks to be the same size as the 1/4in, even though the 1/2in setup puts out almost 100NM more. I ended up going with the SID-18. Though I'm contemplating getting a bare SIW-18T-A as well. Hilti's bare tools are very nicely priced compared to other power tool brands like Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita, etc. So adding any Hilti 18v bare tool that I need to the mix is very tempting.

I love both the hammer drill and impact, though the hardest thing is to find impact rated bits that will last longer than a few dozen screws. I've ordered the Wera Impaktor bits but still haven't received them yet. If they don't last I don't know what will cause I've tried over 10 different brands and none of them impressed me. At the ice-rink, I've been installing new dasherboards around the inside and outside of the rink frame. Each one requires about 30 screws to install, and there are 84 sections inside the rink and another 65 on the outside. So I've installed over 4000 of these screws with the impact. And I've probably blown through at least 140 bits doing so

Maybe he's done exactly that!

I believe you are right. Never seen such a Beta ratchet before. A dead ringer for a Koken 4753P which I presume is the Beta's origin.

It looks neat but when you try to screw something tough, you better have as much surface as possible. These rounded corners reduces effective surface. In theory.

OK, I just checked the torque limit of the Hazet adapter (3/8>1/4) and it is 62Nm
Then I just can use this adapter for the whole range 5-60Nm. Thanks!

well, I will give you the exactly technical details for the Hazet 8858-2 adapter. Normally they can use for a little bit more than the DIN says. Give me one day! And if you want we can talk here in Germany about it. I would invite you to Hazet in Remscheid to see the tool world of this company if you like

Yesterday I was at the opening of a Hornbach nearby. This DIY-market is originated from Germany, but our country also has 10 locations.

I have to say it is big, but I especially like the (mainly German) brands they sell!

An overview of the handtoolsection:

Well, measuring tools and saws are mainly from Stanley and Bahco (pretty good, but not German):
Lasertools from Bosch by the way.

Clamps by Wolfcraft:

Hammers from Picard and punches/chisels from Rennsteig:

Pliers and screwdrivers (mainly) from Wiha:

Wrenches and socketsets from WGB (no very good quality I guess considering the price) and even cheaper brand

They also sell welding machines from GYS, bits by Makita and Witte iirc, electrical machines by Bosch, Hitachi, Makita and a couple of cheap/unknown brands, Dronco cutting discs, and so on...

Well, I almost was kicked out because of taking pictures... so I only took pictures of the handtools.

I'm actually quite pleased with the stuff they sell from Wolfcraft, Wiha, Picard, Rennsteig, Witte. Not the most known professional brands but nice German brands that I can hold and inspect in stead of order it straight from a catalogue or website (as still is the case for most of Hazet, Gedore, Stahlwille, Knipex and Wera stuff I am/would order in the future)!

I would recommend Makita HR2230 (165 euros) or HR2460 (175 euros). Both models are 2-mode like the Hitachi.
