Storage is unfortunately not from Europe, but it´s decent quality at a good price. Paid USD 320 + tax for the red one and 350 + tax for the Harley-Davidson on sale at Sears. They are both the Heavy Duty line (Basic line is cheaper but not very good quality IMO, and the Premium line is expensive). At what I paid, I am still short of a Hazet.... :-( (Next post about the old world again....)

Ok, these are not Monte´s fault: Facom France I inherited from my father. As a comparison a Craftsman (USA, not China) 12 point and 6 point. The Facom look in fact clumsy in comparison to the Craftman on the open end. However, the finish of the Facom is very nice. My father is Swiss (I am German) and I could use basically all his tools, except for these Facoms. The set did apparently not come with a 15, so my father bought a 15 Dowidat.

Note: I chose the 13´s for the second pic because I understand that this is Monte´s favorite... :)

3. KNIPEX cutter, and curved knife
4. ALYCO side cutters from SPAIN

Sadly the only things made in Sweden are the Sandvik chainsaw files, the hacksaw blades and the folding saw. I have no complaints about the quality of anything though. (Except the handle has come off the 1/4 ratchet!)

The sockets, ratchets and spanners come from this set:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000Y8V8TK/?tag=atomicindustr-21

I think I paid just under £100, and I've used it fairly well for about 3 years with no problems. Would definitely recommend it as a budget set

My box (sorry for pic quality)

Going to Germany, Looking for some tools.

Well it's not really a tool quest. My wife has been bugging me to go on a Viking river cruse so we are leaving on November 2nd for a 15 day ride from Budapest to Amsterdam.

The wife does not know it yet but I am going to escape and look at tools.
But she does want to go to OBI home improvement as we are always doing something around our place and it well be cool to see some nicer euro home products. I want to get a pair of the re badged NWS pliers with the blue handles.

Looking at the Itinerary I believe I will have some free time in Budapest Hungary, Vienna Austria,
Passau Germany, Nuremberg, Wurzburg, and Cologne.

I have been using Google maps to try and find some tool and industrial supply stores.
I don’t speak or read any German so it is difficult even with Google translate. I keep coming up with a mix of some tool place and all sorts of places that have nothing to do with tools.
Also I cant tell if the places that I can find sell to the public or not. Or if they are a store of just sell online?

The big box stores are easy but I want to find the places with the tool walls that I have seen photos of.

I would be great full for any help.

Ron

Be careful taking pictures in the Cologne's Bauhaus store, last time I did it they threatened to call police ( My fault actually, I used a bulky camera with the external flash).

Guys, specially Monte.

I was checking a Reca catalogue and saw the following:

The ratchet wrenches look exactly like WERA Zyklop, but branded Reca
Screwdrivers look like WERA, Felo and Wiha, some of them actually branded Wiha.
Some are Belzer branded, some are not.

Also, some tools are made by Gedore, as the rep said, but branded Reca. Their catalogue includes Gedore tools, but can be had cheaper than from a Gedore vendor :lol_hitti

Hi everybody! I'm quite new here, so first let's say hello! :hellobye:

I'm following this thread for some time and I decided to join up with you  (many thanks to the guys from werkzeug-news.de!)

Now some pics from my small tool collection. In the past I got too much **** tools, but after I have started my apprenticeship as a precision machinist / tool maker three years ago I learned to appreciate good tools. I don't need the best, at home I do mostly DIY stuff or else.

Got this used German Army cantilever tool box today from an eBay seller, just 10 bucks, but in good condition, heavy and very sturdy!

This was my tool box I used before that. Looks like the same model user Bhae posted earlier (Torin Tool Boxes). Quite OK but I don't trust the rivets...

Welcome and cool box.
What does it say on it ?
Especially the one big word beginning with W ?

"Werkzeugausstattung" means "tool equipment"
"Artilleriemechaniker" means "artillery machinist" or something like that.
Then some cryptic letters and numbers, "Gew. 15 kg" means "weight 15 kg"

The yellow W02? I got no clue, never went to the army. Couldn't find anything with google

My few power tools:

FORMAT hex keys made in Germany by HAFU, i guess?

I'm planning to abuse them in work and keep the PB Swiss high end stuff for weekend wrenching ;).
We'll find out how the Format stands under pressure :rocketwho

Nice! I've got a few Format tools (hammers, flat ring spanners and offset ring spanners -maybe one or two other bits) and they've been great value. Downside is they're a bit difficult to come by in the UK, and their website ***** - no product info and you can't download a current catalogue, so it's a bit of a guess as to what you might receive when ordering.

Flat ring spanners (dead ringers for Elora) -you can see the odd one out here that I ordered to fill in a gap in the set (at the same time I ordered the set) -not sure if it's newer or older:

View media item 28749
Offset ring spanners:

View media item 28751
Hammers (Habero):

View media item 21150
View media item 21152
Offset screwdrivers (Wiha):

View media item 23519

Elora flat and offset ring spanners for comparison with the above. Point of interest - note that in both sets, some are marked "Made in Germany", some marked "W Germany" and some just marked "Germany". The offsets were bought as a boxed set, the flats were bought at the same time from the same vendor (I don't think they're offered as a set in the UK). Given the low requirements for stamping "Made in Germany", the origin of the others may be particularly suspect. The Format spanners bear no COO at all -as noted the flats are identical, I think the offsets as well, but I'd have to check again (It's been a while).

Miskin, may I ask how much those PB Swiss sets cost you over there?

I have 3 PB Swiss tools.. torx drivers mainly. And they are tough as nails! So I'd love to try out the hex keys, but the cost is high. I'm wondering if there's a major difference between US and European pricing.

It's very difficult to order PB SWISS here if you are not a company. Your order must be 200 € at least, so only option is online shopping.
A second option is ebay.de, especially auctions. I paid around 15 to 25 € for each set(new or NOS) including shipping to Greece. I think it's a good deal, if you check the prices in the net. Double at least. Of cource i don't have guarantee, but for hex keys i don't need it.

For example
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=231130266624&ssPageName=ADME:B:ONA:GB:1120

edit: 900 pages!! Awesome!

Thread 1/2 "
ahhh it´s that simple !! :beer::thumbup:

No coo on the tool itself but the finish makes me think china. That and there is a sticker on the side that says Patent Germany. In person looks like chrome painted plastic. Im not exactly thrilled with this tool. But it was US $25.00 compaired to $75.00 for knipex.
is there a patent number somewhere ?

Bitte :)

Das ist alles Monte´s Schuld (It´s all Monte´s fault.... )

Felo screwdrivers with wood handles from www.german-hand-tools.com. They look absolutely gorgeous.
ooohhh come on ! it´s always Montes fault... :( :D :D :D

Note: I chose the 13´s for the second pic because I understand that this is Monte´s favorite... :)

:) Congrats, Jure! In my local Bauhaus, the german made wrenches are long gone, except for some complete sets in plastic container (like yours). To keep the confusion complete, some of the complete sets contains indian made HR wrenches (yes, with "HR" forged in!) together with (i think) taiwanese made (more glossy) wrenches....

Adding to the recent Bahco trend, here's my 319 hacksaw that arrived the other day:

I was about to cry after discovering no COO: just a silver sticker, when I felt some marking beneath it.
Peeled it off to find:

:D
Blade made in Sweden too.

These pincers came through the post:

I recently lost my original pair which would have been my grandfather's, made in England.
At least their replacement is of good quality.

Welcome, German Toolman, like your tools! I just keep on buying AEG tools, even if they come from "some other country than Germany"...;) Aus Erfarung Gut or is it Auspacken, Einsetzen, Gehts Nicht.? :D

My humble Bahco collection.

Nice tools. Why didn´t we all just hoard, while there were swedish Bahcos for sale...;)

Polar Handtools from Denmark. No COO, but it is manufactured in Sweden and Taiwan.

Most Taiwan, I think. Lookin´ at their website, they tell that they will offer good tools at competitive prices. Doesn´t sound like Europe to my ears. Checking the danish tax-register, says they are 4 employees. Nice tools though, the wrenches looks like same taiwan style as Bahco or Matador. No COO on anything.

I sent an eMail to the Polar guys and they told me, it's Sweden and Taiwan. But even then the tools are not ****, that's for sure. Their 8" adjustable wrench got almost no play, the ratchet is quite ok, same for the hex keys. I bought them because the german distributor abrogated the contract and all dealer with Polar tools are clearing their stocks, with up to 50 % discount :eyecrazy:
