It´s pre 1933!!! In this year a new ratchet came out. That tool case is to find in the 1930 catalog, but still in a wooden case. I would narrow it down to late 1931 or '32.

The photo is from a '33 case:

Thanks mac_intosh, it's all thanks to you that I had an idea of it's age.

I'm sure it will go to someone who appreciates it.

ps. love the cabinet dutch79

I haven't decided yet. What do you think? ;)

If there is rust or paint damage, I think you should repaint. If it cleans up and is just a bit discoloured, don't.

So much bahco tools lately it gives happy tears in my eyes:) thanks everybody! Have posted pics before of my bahco, does it again!

You have the go-though set also I see. What do you think of it?

Bahco 8150 "dual80"and extensions

Nice! Where did you get the 8150?

Thanks for your opinion ! I thought about a set, but it seems you only use it for struts (that´s what i thought i might use it too) but i think i pass and figure out other ways since i think i can do everything else with normal sockets and (ratcheting) wrenches. But maybe someone has another special application for such a set and can talk me into a set :)

Yeah, working on cars you can generally use deep sockets or wrenches instead of a set like that. I think there is a reason that most premium brands don't have that kind of sets, and instead has a dedicated strut set.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I was not particularly after the pass through sockets, they just happened to be available from an online retailer within my price range. I wanted a compact socket set that I can carry with me to an off-site job (instead of having to pack my sockets every time - they hang on a board in my garage).

I have since seen the Bahco S240 set also available (image below), but a little above my price range. It is a 1/2" drive though so is more preferable. So its either that or the 3/8" S330 set.

There are other cheaper socket sets available here, but I really would not mind adding the Bahco brand to my garage. :)

I don't know much about the tool market in South Africa, but here is Europe I would say that the Bahco S-line sets are very competitively priced, and there is little reason to buy cheaper sets. The S240 is not the best value though I think, often you can find the bigger sets (that combine 1/4" and 1/2") for little more. Do you need > 22mm sizes? If so a 1/2" set is the only option. For < 22mm sizes I think that 3/8" shouldn't be a problem, but you might want to add a breaker bar.

wurth ratchet screwdriver

Looks like the same mechanism as on Bahco and other SNA brands.

I've been hobby working spanners for sometime, but recently got a dedicated space that I need to tool up. I felt the need to get quality stuff (in the right places, and cheap where it doesn't make a difference), and unfortunately I discovered this site. :)

Masters hardware (Lowes for US folk) has opened up and started stocking a fair bit of quality brands. That combined with eBay and the occasional find at other tool stores, I slowly getting there.

This week's additions come from eBay (Husky stubby ratchet spanners + Beta hex keys), Masters (Bessey snips) and local tool shop (Sidchrome spanners + Koken hex sockets).

The Sidchrome spanners are basically the Facom 440 series, but slightly different in shaft and made in Taiwan.

Also so thrilled with my first Koken bits. I do have some more in the post via eBay.

Nobody here in the garage has such a set... it seems they use a deep offset wrench ... so i always was wondering about these sets...

and unfortunately I discovered this site. :)
that was a expensive mistake :D

my oldest catalog is probably from 1992 (?) ("Katalog D92") but your pliers are not there. I guess its a older model because of the older style "sleek" handles. Is there a part # on the tool ? I guess it might be a upgraded model similar to the combination pliers still offered in the 1992 catalog where a regular 180mm combination plier made out of "Vergütungsstahl" was offered for 39.- DM and the upgraded model out of "Gedore-Vanadium" was offered for 72.- DM. The regular model looked like the pliers today and the upgraded model looked exactly like this one. The regular model shows"Austria" as coo and the upgraded model shows "Germany" as coo. So it maybe wasn´t made by Gedore. So basically what i´m trying to say :) is that the sidecutters might be one of these upgraded models ? Or not :) maybe he just wants to make some money :) because its not in the 2014 catalog i wonder where he got the price from ....?

btw. Gedore pliers::bounce:

He's an authorised dealer and, you know, before the economical krisis in Greece, with banks to lend without asking, with major projects such as establishments of the Olympics, there was a, how to tell, comfort in store merchandise. What's left on the shelves now sell at half price. I think i will take a better look on that side cutter because i really like it. it's a solid, brand new Gedore side cutter with blue translucent plastic handles.

Speaking of Belzer, I've just bought this puller, which was advertised as Belzer:

View media item 37187
It was cheap, so if it turns out not to be , then I won't be too disappointed (as long as it's reasonably useful). I googled Belzer though, and got the Apex website and then from there linked to a Brazilian-based Belzer website -is most of their stuff made there now?

Good find.

They are brilliant pullers - you definitely won't be disappointed and you won't bend it in a hurry.

Yours must be slightly older. The new ones have a special coating on the forcing screw.

They are the same ones Gedore rebrand. I can't remember the name of the manufacturer though.

The brazilian Belzer has nothing to do with euro belzer!

Literally no connection, or do you mean in the way the Britool today has nothing to do with Britool of a couple of decades ago?

Yeah I think they'll be good. I've got 2/3 jaw pullers with hinged jaws and it can be a bit of a pain sometimes holding the jaws in place while getting some pressure on the screw, so I've been wanting to try this type for a while.

I did see a similar puller on the Gedore site, but also Sealey, so we'll see what turns up. They look to be in good condition though so for £13 shipped I won't be overly fussy.

<22mm is fine, so 3/8" will do it. The S330 kit is well priced here so I will consider that over the S240 which is much more expensive. I have a Gedore 1/2" set with sockets up to 27mm for heavy duty use.

Thanks.

Tools in action :)

Hmmm...when i use that tool, it´s mostly for making holes nearer to the end...too much christmas stollen, i guess..:headscrat

I love that the videos shows your gloved hands only, but they are really articulating and supporting your points clearly. Keep them coming...

Hi,
Some European tools I like in my workshop.

Chisels for woodworking I use different types of old " The Shark" i e E A Berg tools from Eskilstuna, Sweden, bought second hand. Some of them needs new handles. It is about the best steel quality for woodwork, made about 60 - 70 years ago

My father has nearly the same collection in his workshop, really great tools. The wooden handles are for "wood mallets" only, i remember my father pointed that very strong to me. Strange though, that you could buy wooden mallets in every hardware store here in Denmark, but i have never seen them in Sweden? I asked for one in a "Beier Bygg" shop some time ago, but the staff had never heard of such a thing: "Just use a normal hammer". Maybe i go to the wrong shops?

The brazilian Belzer has nothing to do with euro belzer!

True, German Belzer: Belzer Germany > Sandvik-Belzer > Bahco-Belzer > SNA Europe.
Brazil Belzer: Belzer do Brazil > Gedore > Belzer-Itma > Apex Tools.
But can anyone explain why the Brazil brand was in the hands of Gedore ? And when?

"Cheaper tools" part II. ;)

The original ratchet was replaced by a "better" one !

Would you give the different sets a ranking?
I really like my Proxxon "rubber" ratchet, smooth and have lasted brute overloads. Though i know i could be "bad standing" in this environment...:bounce:

New Year's pledge: more sports :)

i visited a exhibition for production machinery today:

Mostly big "tools" were on display like this "Gildemeister" lathe:

or a smaller version from "Weiler":

or this "Amada" saw:

medium sized saw from"Klaeger":

small robot:

large robot:

"Alzmetall" drill presses:

workshop compressor from "Renner"

industrial vacuum from "Ruwac"

"Lorch" welders

now to the smaller hand held tools:

"Suhner" metal working power tools

exotic cordless tools

"Trumpf" nibblers/shears and beveling tools:

"Fein" power tools:

New D-handle drill:

cordless drills/drivers:

cordless shears/nibblers:

new angle grinder line up from 800 to 1500 watt:

misc. tools:

something for the americans :)

this box was pretty nice. Built in cameras above the first drawer monitor which tools are removed and put back and a computer voice tells the user if he put the tools back at the wrong place or if something is missing and the computer on top also displays that graphically.

shadowboard "scanner". Put your tools on the illuminated table, take a picture and...

...upload and modify it on the companies website and they make the boards for you....

...finished shadowboard from "Osaap" www.osaap.de

that´s all folks ! :)

Thumbs up for effort and execution. I'm sure most people here appreciate an english version.

I agree with the Matador sound, very smooth and soft. Also like the Hazet sockets with the double knurling.

Edit: Thanks for the pics Monte. You must be recognized as a regular at these show by now. ;)

You can't have too many pullers, and for that price I would take 2.

I recently picked up a set of mini Gedore pullers to add to the collection-

Witte Witron precision Torx scredrivers (T5 - T15):

Amazon UK have a good selection of Witte screwdrivers and these come in a fantastic case.

A dinky little Spyderco Honeybee keychain knife-

2" closed length and just over 4.5mm thick. Obviously doesn't lock as lock knives are illegal to have out in the public, here the good old, repressed United Kingdom.
