Mustad screwdrivers i havent seen here before,Mustad is a norwegian brand but there is no coo.The pozidrive nr 3 is marked vanadin germany import on the backside, old Wera?

Hi Vidar, and welcome. I visit some swedish "lanthandel" (farmshops) from time to time, and Mustad horse shoes and -nails are sold everywhere. Coo: Norway.
Special pliers and tools for horse shoes too, made in Norway. I´ve felt tempted to buy one of the pliers, because of the rough, blacksmithy finish, handmade in Norway, but since i don´t own a horse, i feel it would be just i bit silly....
When i was kid in the 70´s, the best (and most expensive) fishing hooks were from Mustad.
Sorry to hear about Kongsberg, they made very nice knives.

I think the old trope of "Danes and norwegians can understand swedish, but swedes can't understand danish or norwegian" is very accurate. And I don't think any country is as overly smug about being good at english than us also, so that might be a thing with switching to english also :)
Snus is horrible though, the smell! Better than smoking still I guess...

Things that you love even though they're crappy? I though that was a italian thing? At least that's what I gathered from Alfa Romeo owners... :)

No, i don´t love crappy things, and of course the quality control (hmmm...) should have caught your hammer. But what i like about english things (tools, cars, and even guitar amplifiers..) is that conservative, yet nerdy way of thinking. In some ways they are top-notch, in other ways just plain silly (like the Morgan workshop, where the workshop managers wear tweed suits on the garage floor!).
Where the germans makes perfect tools, the english makes personal tools, if you get my point. Sorry if i sound biased...

Basically it's quite rude if they turn to english when you have made the effort to speak 'scandinavian'. Norwegian isn't a problem to most swedes, at least bokmål isn't. Pure Danish can be tricky though, but the 'swedified' 'scandinavian' shouldn't be. I have a few danish friends among the scandinavian ex pats in Estonia, and if they only spit out a small chunk of the porridge and maybe swedify numbers, it's no problem to follow them, to my mind.

 I´ll try to spit some of the porridge out...and the potatoes.

I'm sorry, I think my choice of words were a bit harsher than intended. I understand fully what you mean. People who are in to Italian cars often have the same thing. Things are not flawless, but instead they have character and a joy in use. Perfect is boring...

The thing britts are best at though is not tools or cars though, but humor.

Most of my handtools I use regularly are from Kraftwerk. I'm pretty happy with them, but in time I'd like to upgrade to Hazet.
One of the things I'm not so happy about are the handles of the following 2 items that have a problem.
The screwdriver-handle is already replaced under warrenty, but also the new one is not OK anymore: the handle can rotate (almost 360 degrees) around the metal rod.
The ratchet slided off this weekend and isn't stuck anymore on the metal rod.

A closeup of the rod and the way the handle is SUPPOSED to stay stuck:

So.. now I'm wondering how this is designed/attached with the topbrands, like Hazet. Anyone with a example? Can I rely on the handle, that they don't slide off in time? :dunno:

Nobody that can comment on this?

I think most ratchet handles are a press fit similar to that. The metal part was really small on that Kraftwerk one though. Some posts in this thread http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96359 contains some images of it. I would say that it isn't the method that is the problem, more just with the quality. If you can get it replaced on warranty, do it. Otherwise I would just fill the handle with Sikaflex (or similar) and press it back on :)

The "flutes" looks small... Others look like this too, but bigger i think. Maybe the plastic material isn´t that good too ... ? Anyway i don´t think you will experience these problems with the top brands.

I think the rawhide face would be damaged if I tried. Don't know how they're attached though. Found this http://www.thorhammer.com/thor_hammer_refacing_hammers.pdf and it seems it is a press fit.
how is your other hammer ? is it better ? I was looking for the copper/rawhide hammer in size 1...

Nothing to complain about on the bigger one. I have to say though the bigger one (that I have had over a year) haven't seen much use. I'm much more comfortable using a rubber mallet or a plastic faced deadblow.

Thor hammer size comparison.

The quality compartment at Thor is lacking an eye for detail, note that the copper head of size 3 is on the wrong side.

Interesting (and thanks). If that's the quarterly promo flyer in France, it's a lot more comprehensive than we get here in the uk (maybe 15-20 pages and shared with Britool specials).

Probably in the shops here as well, but the trouble is getting to one. I usually just download from the Britool site (never seems to make an appearance on the English Facom site for some reason).

Anyone know who the OEM is for the Craftsman Clamp made in Slovakia? I haven’t found a better clamp for working with wood. I love it. Comes in several different sizes and beats the Irwin clamps (at least the ones I’ve seen made in the past 5 years or so).

I need a crow foot 13mm in 3/8" (open end 12 point type).

stahlwille_crow_foot_ring_spanner_3_8_sockets.jpg

Sadly Hazet and Stahlwille only have those in 3/8" starting at 16mm and Facom has 3/8" starting at 15mm. I think 1/4" is not strong enough for rusted nuts in hard to reach places. At the moment I need to tighten nuts on my downpipe (car). My ratchet in 1/4" is also way too small for this job. An adapter from 3/8" to 1/2" will be much better.

Any other suggestions?

Would a flat nut style work?

A flag nut spanner like that might be an option. It's way cheaper at least than the 45-50 euro's of a single item of Hazet/Facom/Stahlwille...

Edit: i ordered this one to try first

When it needs to be more slim and 12 points in stead of just 6 then I'll consider the Stahwille 3/8 13mm that i eventually did find, but is way more expensive!

Betaful !
Do the wrenches come out of there without too much effort or do you really have to pull them to get them out ?
the 15mm wrench is difficult to remove. So i think the small rack is for sizes 7 to 14. 14 work fine. (i didn´t try out the larger ones yet) Might depend on the width of the beam ...

Sorry cell phone pics but here are my new Stahlwille 14a spanners (wrenches). Absolutely awesome.
very nice !!! I see some Stahlwille sockets too ??

maybe Wolfcraft. They do have a factory in Slovakia. They also make that type of clamp. www.mibro.com

I ordered them from amazon.co.uk when they had a deal going last year.
Shipping to germany was less than 6 £ for all three.

A visit to the uk hot deals thread pays of sometimes...or costs sometimes...
ahhh ok. I thought Amazon.de because shipping is free (over €20.-)

Two 8-inch pliers, one brand Fit model "Horse" made in the times of West Germany and the other brand made in Czechoslovakia York ..

Damn, I think you’re right again! How many years has it been now, that you’ve found a source I’ve posted on here :)

Now, whether in the US, it doesn’t make more sense to just by from Sears or to try to locate the OEM (if available) for distribution here, I don’t know yet.

Thanks Monte!
