Thanks for the pics and the explanations zaboravi. Regarding Unior, would you consider their current wrenches, sockets and ratchets to be of good quality?

Hello :) I think it is good quality, because all steel for producing is from SIJ (Slovenian steel industry - http://www.sij.si/en ), which has excellent quality steel, and Unior has quality production process :)

tools in action:
Wow! what is the brand of the taps?

I picked this pipe wrench up at a local yard sale last fall for $5 or $10. Its a Kongsberg No 93, made in Norway. I like it a lot - it is solidly made and very long, to allow better leverage on sticky bolts.
Nice tool! It hard to find made in Norway tool here (Malaysia), thank to share the pics

have some work to do at my house in Marseille, that is now my mother's home and took a few hours off to go poach a bunch of fleas... :)

Wisent 19 – 17 open end wrench (bought on flea market for 1 E; maybe Monte knows who produced it?)
sorry i don´t know....there could be several OEM`s....
WFR 22 – 19 open end wrench (accord to TGL (DDR standard), some „super steel“ legure?, maybe Monte knows what it is?; bought on flea market for 1 E)
i don´t know...you can find many wrenches with the "Super Steel" inscription on the flea market... since they are older maybe it just means that they are made from chrome vanadium and not regular tool steel ?
Meister 7 mm combination wrench (@Monte, is this just a brand or it was / is a tool maker?; bought on flea market for 0,50 E)
it´s just a brand www.meister-werkzeuge.de
Faust 12 mm combination wrench (@Monte, what about this brand?; bought on flea market for 0,50 E)
Faust is just a brand of the "Praktiker" DIY stores. www.praktiker.de
Two 13 – 12 open end wrenches (bought on flea market for 2 E; Made in Germany; second is marked „SOLINGEN GOTT“; @Monte maybe knows producers?)
"Gott" was a forge founded in 1929 in Solingen which produced forged products for the tool industry in Remscheid and for the measuring tool industry in Thuringia. In 1973 they went bankrupt. It seems the company NWS was founded out of the assets: http://www.nws-tools.de/en/company/history/
Two testers (bought new for 1,5 E; marked Made in Germany, but no producer sign; anyone knows?)
i guess from H+H
http://www.hh-werkzeug.de/standardeng.html
(formerly "Brehmer")

Hi,
I enjoyed this thread for a long time now (althopugh I only reached page 195 until now). It definately effected my tool purchase!

As an amatur DIYer, my toolbox may not be as extensive as a proffesional, but I do have some nice tools.

I will probably upload some more photos in the future.

For a start, I would like to bring a mystery:

This is Hazet 610N 12x13, which looks normal in any way, except that it is golden!
I found it in a hardware store, NOS. The manager could only tell me that it is a was some kind of limited addition a few years ago. There is no mentioning on it if it is gold plated or something else (like TiN). The surface has the same matt finish as the regular chrome version, so I guess under the plating it is the regular chrome.
Searching the net, I chould not find any reference to it. The only golden 610N I could find was a keychain miniature.

Can anyone help me with more detail about this wrench?

Hello guys,

I am searching for metal drill bits to drill Titanium (Grade 5, Ti6Al4V). The hole must be 20mm.
Does anybody know an adress with good and relatively cheap drill bits?

Kind regards

more from Monte´s treasure chest:
Scintilla/Lesto drill www.scintilla.ch

Was at my parents, forgot the good camera, but took a few pics with the phone...

This drill was a present to my dad from my mom, when he was around 24-25 years - he is now 76, so it should be from 1962-63. Still runs smooth.
He made his own drill stand some year after.

Nice set - nice price!

I think these kind of pictures are the most interesting ones.

More please! Great idea! I will upload some too!

 Yes, more "tools at work".

Hard to tell how old it is, but it is probably older than me (42).

Nice pipe wrench - "swedish style".

indeed, here, in France, i only have seen those two: the sapies(called hookaroons on the other side of the Atlantic) mentioned by Monte and the tournebilles("peaveys" if my memory does not fail me): *clicky!*
....
there are lots of tools that are US/Canada specific, especially forestry/fire tools like the one you're looking for or like the Pulaski axe and the McLeods hoe/rake... :(
Thanks Monte & cosmik. Sappies are useful but they're only designed for moving logs on the ground, you need the spike in line with the handle to push logs which are lodged in the air. Thanks for your suggestions though.

I have a friend who's a blacksmith so I will get her to make me one, I'll post the results!

Yes, they don't get stuck under torque, like some others tend to do. So, they function really well and they look great as well.

I don't have any information to share, but looking at the pics it makes me wonder if it's actually forged and made out of tool steel. To me it looks like it's cast. :dunno:

For Unior I have to say that has chrome chipping problem and sometimes rust on new tools

chrome chipping problem is only found on the "EXTRA" line becouse the chrome layer was way too thick. never seen a LSI line with the chrome peeling/chipping.

Even new Unior LSI spanner had chrome chipping without use,
some others LSI spanners had rust at the shelves of shop.

Same problem with rust I have seen at Elora spanners and at Knipex pliers pivot joints too

Facom 812.1 dial gauge. No COO on this. I've not used one before, but I think it's maybe knackered as the large needle doesn't return to the same spot, and the small needle isn't at 0? It was cheap so no great loss if it's ****.

you should be able to turn the outer ring of the dial.

Yeah it does, but it just moves one of the two marker needles (the knob in the middle moving the other). The large needle of the gauge itself though tends to return to a slightly different position each time the plunger is released though. And then the small inset dial needle isn't anywhere near 0.

The best i´ve ever visited is definately the hardware fair in cologne/Germany (i only visited fairs in germany though...) http://www.eisenwarenmesse.com/en/iem/home/index.php
Because most big companies are there from Channellock to Klein Tools, from Beta to Unior or Top and Hazet, Gedore, Heyco etc. and also other interesting companies like King Tony or Toptul. Also power tools (not all though, mostly small brands), air tools (import + industrial like ATA + Suhner), shop equipment like storage, pressure washers, compressors, ladders etc.
The "Automechanika" might be interesting for car tools + equipment.

Very cool. My dad use to have a Peugeot 2000W angle grinder. One tough ******* that thing.
cool ! Do you have pics ??

yes it is. Its made by www.haunstetter-saegenfabrik.de

very nice pics !!!

I have a request:

I'm looking for a pike pole (also know as pick pole or spike pole) that's made in Europe, for some forestry work I am doing. I can only find manufacturers in the USA, with no one stocking them in Europe. Surely there is a forestry manufacturer in Europe who makes one? Even if I can just get the head, I can make the handle easily...

For reference, this is a pike pole. Designed for pushing logs around, particularly if they get lodged in the air against another tree.
11NK32_AS01.JPG

You should be able to have a blacksmith make one fairly easily and cheaply.

In Canada we use them for sorting logs when building log booms on the water to tow to the mill. They are also used at the mill site for sorting and feeding logs out of the water and up onto the green chain as the logs enter the mill.

I've never heard of using one to push a tree that's tangled into a standing tree but there have been times I would have liked to have had one. It just didn't make sense to pack one of those around all day. I have cut down a sapling to make a 20' pointed pole and used that to push trees over but that was rare. We'd usually fall the tree it was leaned into or knock it down with another tree.

You must be select logging.
