node105 Very nice tool collection from Festool that you have there. My girlfriends sister works for Festo in Esslingen and is fortunately able to get somewhat of a discount. Did you buy your Festool products new, and if so where from?

I had a really nice Festo air regulator, but it got stolen years ago along with most of my then tools. Still have a 10mm air hose. The 10mm OD hose the ID is only a 1/4" ID , but due to the completely smooth interior wall, flows equivalent to a larger diameter hose; just what diam. I no longer remember. This was the sales pitch anyway when I bought it sometime in the late 90's from the local official Festo company, who had supplied the same hosing for the plant line, to one of the 2 major car plants here back then; Holden (General Motors) or Chrysler/Misubishi.

The wall texture and air flow is of course applicable from cylinder head port finishes, down to blood vessel wall surfaces and interaction with blood platelets and clotting ( altered surface /damaged walls slow surface flow, and allow platelets to contact the wall and trigger coagulation (or so I remember from some years ago).

The fittings are push on, small teeth like garden hoses, very nicely finished, Immersion nickel plated, and a plastic slip/pull ring to release.

My Festool binge is all new yes, from a local woodwork tool supplier (Carbatec, a trans Tasman , Oz and New Zealand) company. No doubt their sales figures look a bit better this last week or so, even allowing for them having a 10% off across the board sale.

Not Festool this time, but had been thinking about a sharpening system for some time, mostly for drill bits. So bought a Tormek T7 water stone grinder and drill jig (and knife jig).

The drill sharpener is solid as, the alloy sled component weighs 1528g, and the drill holder component 1280g. Once I had worked out the instructions, my first attempt at a 4 facet drill face worked out quite reasonably. More practice needed, but basically a simple enough procedure.

I am already contemplating a finer Japanese water stone, but will wait till I am more familiar with what the Tormek stone can do. It did restore face angles to some Wusthoff and Sabatier knives, but felt a bit aggressive. The height of the unit needs to be much lower than normal bench height when doing knives at least.

a poor shot of the drill result

Nice! I use to sharpen my drills by hand and i'm curious about the sharpening result of these machines. Could you sharpen a drill for me and take a close pic of drill nose?

not a great result. The stone seems smooth enough, but I think the issue is at least partly having to turn the chuck via the hand wheel, as the belt for the chuck spindle is missing. The point ended up way off. I can do better by hand, even being out of practice.

I'll source a belt and try again.

( and can now certainly do much better with the Tormek)

FEIN MultiMaster Top set
 Please write a small review after some use. Especially about cutting metal (nails, rivets) and sanding.
the included accessoires:
scraper blade, 4 saw blades, dust extraction with seals, 2 delta sanding plates with and w/o holes and paper, 115mm backing pad with paper, carbide saw blade and carbide rasp.
More blades for Fein! Bosch only 2 blades and sanding plate. The package with carbide blades was included??? :wtf:

I would have a Keiba but they are more than 50 Euros in Germany.
For that I can buy nearly three Knipex the same size and I don't think the Keiba is three times better than a Knipex :).

Nice one.
What is your opinion on it? Is it that better than the predecossor?

why don't try MTC, i had been used a few tools of them, the pliers is good but the diagonal cutter (mtc26ps) is not not worth the money!!!

Elora is a German tool manufacturer (www.elora.de). I regard them as top quality, similar to Gedore and Stahlwille.

I'm looking for a torx/Etorx socket set, but those Gedore/Hazet/Stahlwille sets are a couple of hunderds euros...
So I found these two.

Anybody has ever used one of these? Proxxon or Carolus. How do they compare to the top German manufacturers?

A mechanic I know has Carolus and Proxxon tools and we think they are good mid-range tools. They are both German companies but I don't know where the tools are made. Quality-wise they seem pretty good, probably not that much below Gedore/Hazet/Stahlwille.

Carolus is actually owned by Gedore. The Carolus torx / e-torx set you pictured has metal mounts in the case to hold the sockets which is a nice touch. So it doesn't use a plastic insert which could break. I like that.

I would particularly check the warranties as torx sockets are easily broken.

Proxxon -> Taiwan
Carolus -> Mostly Taiwan, but some products like the torque wrenches are relabeled Gedore ones (as Brunel already said that they belong to Gedore).

Most of the items sold by these quality brands are made in Germany, but there are some parts/items like electronic/pneumatic tools that are manufactured elsewhere. But you can expect it's all topnotch quality according to the high German standards :p

Nice one.

i only can compare it to the predecessor of the predecessor :) The new one is a bit heavier, but more silent and vibrates less. More power too. Convenient toolless blade exchange and the star-shaped flange is better than the 10mm round hole because the blades stay where they are (cutting metal could loosen the screw which holds the blade). So the old tool is nice but the new one is better in every aspect.

The downside is that the scraper blade didnt fit.....

More blades for Fein! Bosch only 2 blades and sandind plate. The package with carbide blades was included??? :wtf:
yes the package with the carbide plates was included. Bosch has different sets though...depends also if you got the Bosch GOP 250 or 300... The Fein Multi-Tools tools start now at 129.-€ + vat so i think its not necessary to buy anything else

nice exotic Knipex/Matra pliers

i bet both sets should work for DIY use

by the way, did anybody use sortimo l-boxx as a tool box?
no, but you can buy them from Gedore:)

Do Hazet, Stahlwille and Gedore all forge in Germany? Or do they outsource anything to Asia?
Ratcheting wrenches from Hazet + Stahlwille are imported for example.

I saw some Carolus sets a few years ago when they first arrived in the U.K. I think they were made in Spain and the quality looked pretty good!

My local tool dealer has Carolus wrenches on the shelf now, but they have 'Taiwan' on them and the quality looks pretty poor! If you really want a Taiwanese tool you can do better!

Havn't seen the Torx set's!

Personally, I find that these particular tools are one area that you don't want to economise on quality, and I'd get some decent ones if I possibly could!

Not recently. 10 years ago in my previous job i used a sharpener for a couple of times but i can recall type or brand, sorry :dunno:
If you can adjust degrees it could be a valve (or nozzle) grinder.
We have some nozzle grinders like the one in the pic (internet pic) in my present job.

The downside is that the scraper blade didn't fit.....

yes the package with the carbide plates was included. Bosch has different sets though...depends also if you got the Bosch GOP 250 or 300... The Fein Multi-Tools tools start now at 129.-€ + vat so i think its not necessary to buy anything else
Thanks Monte, i will right my opinion for Bosch GOP 300 soon. My biggest problem is the vibrations and the noise, but it's my first multitool and i can't make any compares yet.

(...)Britool spanners from the days when Britool was English:

 You could create your own "store in the garage" - for your eyes only...

Not Festool this time, but had been thinking about a sharpening system for some time, mostly for drill bits. So bought a Tormek T7 water stone grinder and drill jig (and knife jig).

Made in Sweden - very nice! I´ve been thinking of buying the Scheppach look-a-like at a fractional price - but then, made in china...:willy_nil

...Hi.Nice to meet you Luis Arturo. very nice stanley. I have three stanley england .and one e.a berg sweden.
In Thailand, there are people who enjoy this compilation of many.:beer:

Hi romio_nat - nice e.a.berg blade! Love the shark logotype. What that on left side - stamped chinese or thai signs?

Now - more old tools from the old world.

Tormek vs Sheppach

I had considered the Scheppach too. A post 8 from Jeff Francis in this SawMillCreek forum ( way back in 2006) settled it for me; apart from the fact as a rule I don't buy chinese :)

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?29214-Tormek-vs-Scheppach-Sharpening-Systems

Thanks for the link, lots of information on that forum...but, now there´s no excuse for buying the el-cheepo Scheppach....
The Tormek however, is DKK 3800,- (USD 570,-) and I can´t really reason this...I´ve got belgian waterstones, arkansas oil stones, japanese superfine waterstones...fills my needs for sharpening knives  The Tormek is a great, swedish piece of work though, maybe if I took up more woodwork...

"...gibt ihnen hilfreiche informationen.."
So much text for a ordinary thermometer !
But after the recent posts with Festools, Tormeks and Feins, nice with a more budget-friendly and affordable tool...

Here in Oz the Tormek T-7 is $989 AUD ($930 USD), the drill sharpening jig DBS-22 $402 AUD ($378 USD) , and the long knife jig SVM-140 $81 AUD ($76 USD)

I really wanted mine for drill sharpening, the knife and tool aspects are a bonus. Japanese superfine waterstones: Homeresque mmmmmm...

Yesterday brought my purchase :) A set of keys "Carl Walter" from 5.5 mm to 34 mm. Processing quality is very good.

Hello!

I recently found this store online: http://store.flobyoverskottslager.se (swedish text only). A surplus store with military and civilan goods with lots of NOS tools. Found a good deal on a crowbar, which I have been looking for. Much cheaper than buying a "Tove" at regular prices at least. So I placed a order, and as always threw in some other fun NOS stuff with it :)
IMG_0967.jpg

The crowbar is a "Tors Hammare" (Thors hammer), an old swedish brand now owned by Hultafors. It is not stamped with anything, but almost guaranteed it is made in Sweden. More it is a nail puller, also from Tors Hammare.
IMG_0955.jpg

A wood handled slot screwdriver from "C.I Fall", which are still around it seems http://www.cifall.se .
A classic wood handle Mora knife also.
IMG_0957.jpg

IMG_0958.jpg

Two stubby Hultafors screwdrivers. Looks similar to Bahco 6000 with the green hard handles, but not the same. Made in Sweden.
IMG_0959.jpg

IMG_0961.jpg

Two 6" and two 4" clamps. Made by EIA (now owned by SNA Europe) in Sweden.
IMG_0962.jpg

A garden tool you don't see often now a days. A sickle, made by Igelfors Bruks (also still around http://www.igelfors.se ) in Sweden.

I have already placed my second order from them, more good stuff on the way! :)
