Hi Monte,

Do you know country of origin for the Mafell? Is it the same machine as the Metabo?

The claim is they have their own optimized gear ratios for the Mafell "target market", which I guess is more timber framers? I'm not sure if that's the case though, someone needs to measure the RPM for us.

So I got a few Italian OSCA ball-pein and cross-pein hammers yesterday, my thoughts are listed below:

-Need to finish the heads better (twice as rough as the Estwing clubs) and select handles with proper grain orientation, out of the 3 hammers i ordered per weight, only 1 was satisfactory
-Also varnish/coat it with something a bit more chemical resistant
-Forging needs to be more precise - I've never seen a fiberglass-handled hammer with a head that's hafted on an angle (though slight, it shouldn't have happened)
-Feels good though, I like the swing. All in all, decent pieces for the prices paid - in this price range you're stuck with Asian hammers.

Going to be refinishing the heads and probably the handles as well.

“Genuine 47S series chrome plated 6-point UNIFLEX sockets made of HPQ high performance steel. These models have been discontinued by Stahlwille and are engraved with 'S' to indicate this. Available only while stocks last. Supplied as-is without any warranty.”
So the "S" stands for "discontinued" ? :D ;)

So, pliers question: really become impressed by two brands - Orbis and Keiba. Which would you take and why? (Price being relatively the same)

Or in true GJ fashion, is their a justification to get both?
maybe Keiba has some unique pliers Orbis don´t offer and vice versa ? So to get both brands makes sense :)

Hi Monte,

the 10,8 volt tool is made in china. The 18 volt tools are german made. IIRC they reprogrammed the motor electronics on the 18 volt models so the motor has a different torque curve.

For Stahlwille fans in the EU these are a good price. At first I thought the engraved 'S' stood for second but they have over 1500 in stock and have been selling them for almost 2 years on ebay.co.uk
They can't all be grade 2 and they are indeed discontinued in 6 point by Stahlwille.

Tool Führer Monte might know more ?

Came today. Seem fine, definitely not 'Sekunden'. Maybe S stands for Stahlwille and indicates to the factory there is no extended warranty. They would be covered by statutory warranty though which is a year in the UK.

That S engraved is really strange, even the actual laser engraving of it is kinda odd. Wonder what it means

I recently had a couple of socket sets donated to me by my father in law. One is a Britool 1/4" set spanning 4-15mm and includes a spinner handle, 100mm extension and T bar. All made in England and in original steel case. All parts are marked with an arrow symbol that I believe signifies MOD. This would make sense because he retired from the MOD years ago and several of his other tools are also marked with the arrow.

I also received this Draper 3/8" set which is made in Japan! The sockets are 10,11,12,14,16,17 and 19mm. It's an odd sizing spread: a missing 13mm and 15mm is annoying as they're needed so much more than 14mm and 16mm. The set is complete though (no lost sockets) and comes with a breaker bar. Again, stored in a steel case. I guess Draper once made good tools.

Both sets have barely been used, especially the Britool one as shown by the inside of the case.

Edit: I recently bought a Britool A45 (bottom) to replace my A74 (top) which has worn teeth but I miss the lighter, smaller A74. If anoyone knows where I can get a rebuild kit for the A74 I'd love to know. I've searched but found nothing. I know it's probably over 50 years old now but I liked it and would prefer to have it working again. It's possible I could retrofit another ratchet gear inside I suppose, providing the dimensions were the same.

That's right, yeah. Signified by the upwards facing arrow, I believe. Particularly common with Britool who must have been a primary supplier to the MOD for many years.

The Broad Arrow mark denotes government property. Two Broad arrows point to point denote government property that has been sold or discarded.

I've seen toilet paper stamped with the Broad Arrow, also prison uniforms.

Is that the ratchet with 80 teeth? Could you tell us how it is once you'll have use it?
I have an old 1/2" Stahlwille ratchet and I often think about getting a newer one.
I also own a 1/4" Stahlwille ratchet with the quick release system, this feature is great in some situations
My next 3/8" may be this nice combo :)

Thanks.

Tato.

The Stahlwille 1/2" 512QRN has 60 teeth.

I also have the 3/8th version which has 80 teeth. It's slightly smoother than my Snap-On 3/8th FX80 dual 80. The sockets fit tighter and the mechanism has less play too.

I wouldn't call the 512 particularly smooth though, even after I took it apart to lubricate it.

the ratchet is model 512QR N ,is 60 fine teeth quick release here in italy is in promo with 44 € vat excluded ,no i have not use yet,i buy it yesterday ,but i can tell you that the movement is very precise and the teeth movement is a bit stiff and rubber on the handle gets slippery very quickly in contact with oil,and yes the ratchet is not very smoother ,for socket i can tell you that are verry acurate i measure for example 13mm with calipper and is 13,08 or 22 measure is 22,06 all the socket are verry acurate. For the quick release sistem i can tell you are very nise this lock the socket very strong on the ratchet.
Another thing the green button for lock unlock on the ratchet seem to be same kind of plastic ,but on the extension al the button are made from metal.

aaaand, I'm not sure about COO... Japan, China? (does Makita always write "Made in China or P.R.C" on their Chinese made stuff?)

COO Malaysia 3525cbb325ef8435aa04487b2c52fd1e.jpg
This is actualy 10.8V drill (by its power(torque) and compactness) powered by 18V battery (exactly what I need, I plan to buy some other 18V stuff but I dont need heavy drill with lots of power)

Next thing to buy is 3 kilo sds rotary hammer, and I'm thinking about Bosch GBH 3-28 DFR or Makita HR2811 FT. Any recommendations? BTW does anyone know COO of these hammers? Thank you!

p.s. sorry for crappy pics [emoji21]

Serial number with "Y" should be China as is "K".
Sometimes they do add the COO by name, but not always.
"E"...Japan
"R"...Romania
"G"...England/UK
"A"...USA
