WOW Etalon Slide Calipers! That is some fine, precise stuff.
Hi Chris,
Thanks! Most of them have never or almost never been used (I am still at toolbox #1 with the "back-up tools" ;-)
Once I get to toolbox #2, these tools have been used at least sometimes. But I have to admit that I only occasionally work on my motorbike. Still, I feel it makes a difference if you have a high quality tool in your hands, even when you're not a pro. Not sure if it is psychological - but a tool that fits nicely just makes a difference in my opinion.
Superbec said:those proto pliers look funky to me... like something you find in the discount bin at a store...
I bought them because I found this Proto-Germany combination very interesting, and the price was quite reasonable. Have not used them yet - somebody did and can say something about quality?
it don´t fit. The batteries fit in the light, but the 18 volt battery don´t fit in the 12 volt tool. There is a plastic stopper at the bottom of the tool. You could grind it away thoughwow pretty cool Monte! I didn't know the 12v, 14v, and 18v can all fit. I wonder if i can fit my 18v ASCM battery into the new 12v tools![]()

even bought in switzerlandFrom my father´s toolbox (has of course lots of sentimental value):

They're an older style NWS if I recall right. And that eBay deal has been going on for a good half a year or longer. They're great pliers, long as you either need or don't mind the insulated handles. That seller also has Proto insulated Screwdrivers.
Hello everybody,
I wanted to take a moment to thank everybody on this great forum for all the things I have learned about tools. My father was a mechanic, and sometimes I used his tools when I was a kid, but I didn't know the difference between a Hazet, a Dowidat, a Facom, and a cheap Chinese socket.
It was about two years ago that I wanted to have my own quality tool box (talk about 30 or years later from being a kid). I am a teacher (business, so no expert like many of you). Somehow I (innocently) thought that Craftsman was a great brand, so I started with a $150 kit from Craftsman. Then I discovered the Garage Board, and especially Monte´s Tools from the Old World. That was a live-changing event - especially for my bank account. Since then, I have acquired a good amount of tools from Germany, France, and similar countries, and I have learned a lot about tools. This forum has been amazing in this journey.
My father did let me use any tools, except the Facom combination spanners he had displayed on the wall, so I started collecting Facom because it connects me to my father who passed away three years ago. My reflection on this is that almost all our possession fade away quickly, but these Facom combination spanners will stay there, they don´t wear like clothing and they don´t get out of fashion like your IPhone. Thus, in my future posting, you will see a bias towards Facom. My father was from Switzerland, so guess what other brand is I appreciate... ;-)
I did not want to bore you with this story, but I wanted to share a little bit of my background. The initiator of this thread, Monte, is of course my hero - let´s applaud him for this ongoing journey that is record-breaking when it comes to the number of postings. And let's keep alive the super-friendly and constructive nature of this thread. Keep these **** pics of your tools coming![]()

Hitachi takes over Metabo...:
http://www.hitachi-koki.com/about/ir/financial/2015_fi/20151113.pdf
Perfect gain for Hitachi
"Metabo is in our opinion a perfect reinforcement for us, as both companies are highly complementary in many ways," explains Osami Maehara, CEO of Hitachi Koki. "For us, this is a partnership of equals. Our clear objective is to grow significantly in Europe. This goal we get a very big step towards the acquisition of Metabo. We have the utmost respect for the excellent results that has reached the Metabo team in recent years. Therefore, we will not only lead Metabo as an independent brand, but as a company within a company and allow him the independence that it needs to continue this success in the future. "
For Garbrecht the strengths of Metabo with the typical advantages of a large organization, like many advantages is in his own words in the foreground, in the shopping area, a complementary presence in the markets, a dense logistics and distribution network or large resources in research and development to combine , In sum, the resulting excellent prospects for Metabo. Close cooperation within the new corporate interconnection offer for example in the engine or the advancement of battery technology major advantages.
Location Nürtingen creates proximity to European markets
Hitachi is according to the specifications of Maehara all employees including the management to the Chief Executive Officer Horst W. Garbrecht and CFO Eric Oellerer accept. The location Nuertingen offers Hitachi excellent opportunities zoom zurücken with development, product management, production and marketing under one roof closer to the European markets. Oellerer sees in the takeover by Hitachi great opportunities. "We have used in the past, our medium strengths to compensate for the disadvantages compared to our larger competitors. We have discussed in detail many conversations with those responsible at Hitachi. We agree that these strengths, such as flexibility, short, fast decision-making, courage and a high pace of innovation, must be preserved. The recent diseconomies however we can compensate honored by belonging to Hitachi. The ability to combine these advantages, Hitachi makes an ideal partner for Metabo "explains Oellerer.
Focus On battery range
A very important point is loud Garbrecht mind that both Hitachi and Metabo focus on the promising segment of the battery-powered electric tools for years. Hitachi offers a wide range of wireless products and a strong 18 volt platform including a first-class technology in the field of brushless motor systems. At the same time Metabo has conquered with a number of world firsts, such as the recent extremely powerful LiHD technology, the technology leadership in the cordless range and a strong position in Europe. "I am convinced that the future of all power tool manufacturers in the field of battery is chosen. With Hitachi together we have the best starting position that we could ask for, "says Garbrecht.
In sum, the two brands complement his view very well. Hitachi belong in the Japanese home market of the leading suppliers and have in the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific market as a whole a very good market position. Metabo contrast achieved the majority of its sales in Europe. As regards the branches, have Hitachi based on the excellent reputation of its heavy drill and chisel hammers for example in the construction industry a strong position while Metabo is very well positioned particularly in the metalworking sector, but also in the building trade and the renovation. According Garbrecht the excellent supplement covers on many different product groups. Another strength of Hitachi are for example pneumatic tools and nailers or the large range of machines in the outdoor area.
Ι say that all these words from executives are plain boltshit.
A takeover and consolidation is not good for anyone except the CEOs that get the bonuses. Everyone else looses; the employees, the families, the consumers and sometime whole cities or even countries.
This is called Corporape where only a few get everything.
Have a good wkd all
lolz.
So what was your evaluation of the 2012 takeover of Metabo by Chequers Capital? All of that progress they made was awful for everyone, except the ones filling their coffers?
We should draw the conclusion then, that other corporations trying to expand their market share are more nefarious private equity firms? What kinda bizzarroworld do you live in?
If you own a A-class or B-class Benz then the engine might be from Renault....Imagine that you buy a Mercedes, get home and when you open the bonnet you find that the engine is a Hyundai and the body is made in Egypt. How would you feel?
We will see what happens with Metabo....on the short run i guess everything will stay like it is, but on the long run..... Do you remember what happend to Elu, AEG or Milwaukee.......?
If you own a A-class or B-class Benz then the engine might be from Renault....If you own a Mercedes Citan then you own a Renault Kangoo...
I accidentally purchase American version of bent nose pliers
Let's hope Fein will not be acquired by Panasonic anytime soon. [emoji52]
