I'm wondering if any one is familiar with this logo/maker mark. I have it on several tools , hammers, chisels and such but none are complete enough for me to read. Any help?

I need a new pair of winter boots. I wonder if Atlas has a distributor in the USA.
Just got a reply from Atlas. They don´t sell their shoes in the US because the shoes are made to european safety standards which are not valid in the US.

Hey, I have a rebranded version of that can (not my pic, but I have the same one - a gift from a German friend)
cool !

Had some business nearby Unior, so I decided to finally visit their factory store!
Got some very good deals.

Scriber and picks, and a couple of VDE screwdrivers I was sorely missing in my box.

Most of Unior's screwdriver stuff is actually OEM by Oplast located in a nearby town.

An almost complete set of 3/8" sockets 50% off (missing only 10 and 13 sizes)
While 3/8" is not really popular I prefer it over 1/2" for most of the work I do (that takes more Nm than a 1/4" can give)

A new name to me, who made this and when?

Bodmann

not much info....except there was a company called "Otto Bodmann" founded in 1923...

Theres a reasonable amount of old Bodmann stuff floating around down here.

They made/sold all manner of things.

In the Brisbane Courier Mail (newspaper) in 1927, Bodmann & Co of Reinscheid Germany were described as manufacturers of guaranteed tools and hardware.

Were probably a company something like Ahrems Goodline.

Monte, What is the cordless power tool with the red looking belt on it. Is that belt a scotch brite type of material? If so that would be so handy to refinish stainless steel finishes.

I have been enjoying this thread a lot. Here's most of my current collection, very recently acquired to replace my old long gone set.

The Sidchromes are made in France and Germany for the vice grips. The German NWS were much cheaper than the French Sidchromes, haven't really put any of them to the test. Except the sidecutters, the NWS sidecutters cut with far less effort than the French Sidchromes, worlds apart really.

The Sidchrome and Knipex joints are better than the NWS...the joint on the Knipex long nose is superior than all others, smoother, tighter, no resistance. I will be buying more dipped handle Knipexes - the default pliers in all Australian mechanics toolboxes.

Very nice stuff !!!!!!!!!

Is the Knipex the Mechanics needle nose with cross hatch jaws?

Are the Sidchromes the same as Facom? It looks like!

it´s a pipe sander/polisher. Yes it´s a similar material like the Scotch-Brite™ Surface Conditioning Discs

no matter waht the brand is

Thanks! Yeah I think the Sidchromes are Facoms, I took off the plastic spring in all of them...I think they are more consistent and refined than the NWS, except the NWS cutter was more effective, it has a higher leverage action, and I remember I have used them already to cut through metal steering boot clamps on a recent rack overhaul. They are still like new and cut better than the Facoms which have yet to see action.

The Knipex are regular 200mm dipped long nose with cutter and regular teeth. Which Knipex as cross hatch pattern? I might buy a pair, was thinking of going to the Snap-On truck for the cross hatch long nose snappy pliers.

nws 109-69-180 play on joint about 0,7-0,9mm
never happened with my knipex

I have the 180 mm with comfort handles as well, that one, the joint was stiff and I had to work it till it was acceptable. One way I test pliers is to push one handle up and the other down whilst I open and close with both hands. then reverse the up down pressure on the handles and repeat. This checks the consitency with the joint. The 180mm, like yours was smooth in one direction and rough like sandpaper in the other. While it won't make a difference in action it will tell you about the production tolerances. All the NWS were inconsistent, some had a touch of play, others needed to be broken in because they were tight at first...others the handles rub against the joint to create friction and on the needle nose, the dipped coating at the bottom of the hing would pull on the handle creating a loud clicking noise. I removed the burr to fix that problem.

Fortunately for me, none of these issues present any operational differences in actual use...but it just goes to show, most Taiwan pliers have superior consistency than NWS.

I will eventually have a full range of dipped handle Knipex to compliment comfort handles, the Facom and NWS handles are both about the same and good for applying more pressure...but dipped handles give better clearance in tight quarters and better feel of the work load. So far my Knipex long nose have the better joint by a noticeable margin. Its a sample of one but none of the others were able to match, not to mention I have Japanes Fujya and Engineer pliers.

Its funny how I never would have cared for these small variances whilst I was on the floor I replaced a knipex side cutter when I lost it with a same size NWS and never a noticed a difference, under time pressure, one does not take the time to appreciate the finer points in engineering.

I find it weird that all my Ratchet's had a handled grip for grip and force when I was on the tools...but now with leasiure working on my own car (I never touched my own car as a mechanic) I want all my ratchets with a chrome shiny handle. :dunno:

Where is that store exactly?
How's the selection of tools?

Thanks for the pictures.

Center of the town Zreče, the shop is separate from the factories.
It's called "Industrijska prodajalna Unior", look it up like that.

The selection is way better than any other retailer that holds Unior but it is very far from the full catalog offering. The entire shop is rather small, likely less than 100m2.
They can stock mostly anything if you let them know upfront.
Nonetheless they take good care of casual visitors, any tool you require that isn't on stock can be sent to your home at no charge. My guess is that it probably works only for Slovenian residents.

You get standard discounts on the amount you spend, heavy discounts aren't really abundant.

The Knipex Knipex 38 11 200 is the one with the plastic handle.

http://www.knipex.com/index.php?id=1216&L=1&page=group_detail&parentID=1336&groupID=1340

There is also the Stahlwile 6534 which os equivalent to Knipex but with comfort handles.

I have got a Snap-on 96cf and it seems to be very good. Only that the joint is not a boxed one like Knipex/ Stahlwille etc. but a lap joint. I would buy again though as they feel really solid.
