Hi mates, I found this wrench deep down a dusty shelf in my workshop.
Does the JIS logo means the wrench was made in Japan or that it fits the JIS norm?

I got a few new bits for me and some colleagues all swiss and german made.

Close up compare of sliding t-handle allen keys: matte finish is the new PB Swiss one, the glossy is the Beta 951 as torx. I like the PB better as it has a detent in the middle and on both ends, the Beta only left and right.

Looking to purchase a smaller angle grinder, die grinder keeping with the same brand as my existing power tools and does anyone have the Bosch GWS 9-115 professional angle grinder, Bosch GGS 28 C Straight Grinder that can advise the country of manufacture?

If you are purchasing new, do try to get the variable speed version of the die grinder. I have the one you mention, but wish I had the variable speed one. With the high speed you can only really use carbide burrs, but at lower speeds you can also use wire wheels, flap discs, etc.

Many thanks for your advice and I am looking at new so certainly something I will need to consider.

He there,

as I am moving on and my projects get bigger, I am now searching for an english wheel and also a tube bending machine for mandrel bends.
Do you have any preferences?
Are good machines made in Europe on the market (e.g. if I need spare parts)?

Feel free to share your opinions with me.

New tools.
Stahlwille box end wrench set 6mm - 22mm (good price from here) and Hazet 10mm inhex socket.

Following Mr MoAiZo's link I found this Gedore 1990 M extension 1/2" with magnet

http://www.tbs-aachen.de/SALE/Gedore_1990_M_extension_1/2_with_magnet_i863_55135.htm

Any chance these are made in 3/8 drive and can be had in the USA? Gearwrench makes one, but it doesn't have the spring function.

You can get them in the USA but like all German tools buying locally will cost you $$$$. I actually have one on order. I don't know of any 3/8" version, but Hazet has a set of magnets you can put inside sockets (so each socket needs it's own magnet since it is controlled by socket size, on the other hand that mean it works with any drive size.)

No. There is currently only the 1/2" extension.

Had these a while but not posted them, before now, all apart from the Tipco were bought at a localish vintage vehicle rally/show which always has a nice selection of people selling old tools, (and other interesting stuff...)

from top to bottom:

Heyco No 555 "Special alloy" 1/2" x 7/16" whitworth

Matador No 200 7/8" x 1 1/16th Whitworth

Tipco 1 1/8" X 1 5/16" AF

and some really nice ex army (hence the paint and grind marks) Belzer Sandvik no 2 wrenches, in some rather odd metric sizes: 20/22mm, 24/26mm and 25/28mm, not sure where ill use some of those but may come in handy at some point :bounce:

It seems like most of the Metabo Made in China stuff is no good. Is this true for the high end cordless miter saw they have too?

Nah, I wouldn't put it like that. There's a lot of things into what makes a tool good or bad, and COO is only really one piece of the puzzle.

I'd say a large portion of the stuff they designed pre-2012, and hasn't been redesigned since, are the ones that are clearly below what they have been building as of late, regardless of where it's made/assembled. There was a pretty big changeover in 2012; they sold a bunch of the company to a big venture capital firm, and seemingly invested the money well. Everything that has come out since then has been very nice, and it seems like Hitachi took notice.

I have a mix of pre-2012 and post-2012 stuff, the stuff that's not great is their recip saw, circular saw, and impact driver, and you can pretty easily tell when you pick the tool up. Fit and finish isn't great, the ergonomics are built for sasquatch, and it's overall just mediocre. Contrast that to the new drills and brushless impact wrench, and you'll see a pretty big difference. Even the brushed cordless angle grinders, which perform really well (as they should since it's their bread and butter), was clearly designed pre-2012; you can tell by just how it feels in hand.

The (China-made) recip saw has pretty poor blade tracking, mediocre power, and sheisty ergos. Contrast that to the miter saw, which is really good; the laser, miter and bevel adjustments are always bang on, there's no fiddling, it just works. I have the Chinese made 18v rotary hammer too, which has also been great. Even the LED lamp (also made in China) has a really good build to it. You can tell they've changed a lot in the past 4 years.

Yeah, I found one seller that wants $57. Not biting at that price.
