Didn't know that.
I saw them in some "field kit" that comes with a knife I believe?
I only have these pliers. No sheath or anything extra.

I *think* the Drehmax is made by Witte.

I don't know the vintage of your Knipex, but I'm curious about the one on the far right. Is there a part # on the handle?

I'm sorry no part number. :(

The Alligator is also made in W.Germany.

And also some pipe wrenches, all made in Sweden except the large one which is from Germany :bounce:

I have a few medieval tool reproductions. I hang out with people in SCA (Society for the Creative Anachronism). Tools from the 10th-17th century are pretty interesting.

Hey Hautpot are you back?

What is the A in knipex above stands for?

No not yet, In fact I am considering extending my stay for a week (or month:eyecrazy:).

The extra letter is unknown nomenclature for me, but I noticed that extra letter differentiate the two pliers.

That would be my dreamjob!!!!:eyecrazy:
Its in the teststation for their tools.....coolest place on the earth....

First they test the spanner for how many newtonmeter it can take. 2600Nm in the ringend.

Then they test the torquetool how many times you can use it before you have to calibrate it again. The current test is 50Nm 500 times.

They they test a ratchetwrench mit 320Nm 3000times i think he says.

Then i think he tries to come close to 150Nm in the wheeltest. But he makes it 107Nm

And then it takes the laser 8,4 sec to engrave his logo on the torquewrench.

FWIW, I'm accustomed an initial item release being given a purely numerical P/N. And a letter that follows, signifying a revision; whether it be an improvement and/or cost cutting measure as a general rule.

There are instances were there's some other meaning, such as *** v. xxxEHT meaning the numerical version is hardened steel v. tungsten carbide (same size, shape, ... otherwise). This example would be from Excelta cutters.

In the case of the Knipex cutter images you posted, I notice the top version doesn't indicate a COO, while the bottom image does. So there may be a bit more than just a change in the jaw profile/shape to result in adding a letter to the end of a numerical P/N.

Hope this helps. :)

Yeah, Knipex uses letters after the product number to distinguish between different variations of a certain type of pliers. I first saw this when I was looking up some info on the 97 00 215 A crimping pliers:
crimp-grip-pliers-97-00-215a.jpg

Found out there's also a B en a D version (no idea what happened to C :p)
KN9700215h_225.gif

http://www.crawfordtool.com/knipex_crimpers.html

The B does uninsulated open barrell connectors:
S50-9368P01WL.jpg

and the D type does the same as the A, but crimps the insulation simultaneously with the conductor -> wider jaws:
http://www.conrad.be/ce/nl/product/822419/Krimp-griptang-97-00-215-D

B & D are out of production.

Now the whole point of this post; showing off my (secondhand) pair of course :)

The built-in wire stripper is a bit fiddly, but works in a pinch.

So... my day consisted of looking at several new and previously visited shops for those Wera Kraftkant drivers I saw last week with no avail:(. But one thing that caught my eye were these screwdrivers in a really tiny, dirty, powertool shop:

IMG_2054_zpshmabjfzm.jpg~original

I couldn't believe my eyes:wtf:! These are vintage Wittes:bounce:!!!! I had no intentions of buying them (because I like bits), but I couldn't take pictures so I decided to buy them:eek:.

So here's the treat, anyone interested in a vintage Witte slotted screwdriver drop me a message and I will dispatch it to you absolutely free when I return stateside. The other one will be for any of my friends:).

Nice find. Barely look like they've even been touched, let alone used.

BTW, how are the wire cutters?

I had posted this previously in the "Tools from Japan" thread, but since we're talking about Japanese knives, here is my collection:

attachment.php

From the left;

Shun Kramer damascus parer
Shiki damascus 120mm petty
Carter 165mm wabocho
Hattori 270mm sujihiki
Kumagoro Hammer Finish 165mm nakiri
Nenohi Nenox G-Type 240mm gyutou
Misono Swedish carbon steel 210mm gyutou

The Carter is, actually, a ringer - it was made in Oregon. Murray Carter, however, spent 15 years blade smithing in Japan and was awarded the title of a 17th generation Yoshimoto bladesmith. The Carter and the Misono are probably my favorite knives.

I LOVE Murray Carter knives. I have 3 in different sizes (plus a neck knife). Best kitchen knives ever for their intended purpose. I used to go to the Blade show in Atlanta every year and talk to him - super nice guy.

At work I've got a gedore screwdriver with a blue hard handle, which I really liked.
So I thought I would buy a set for myself. When it arrived, they didn't looked/feel the same.

The quality is not as nice as the old ones.
The sides of the tip are shaped uneven.
It has more a "short diamond" shape.
The flat side of the tip is not corresponding to the flat of the handle, they are all different rotated.
(Hard to see on the pictures)

Just got this one ,

Steinel Professional Series
View media item 61314
It looks good:)
View media item 61310
Infinite Variable Heat and Airflow
View media item 61312
And the coo is .....
View media item 61313
Since this is the professional series I believe that almost all Steinel are now made in Romania. There are 2 or 3 other models that are much more expensive and they may be made in Germany. Before you buy better ask though.

I will report back after I have used it a bit.

Do bolt cutter heads interchange with each of the makers? For example VBW has a lot of replacement heads that Knipex, Alarm, Orbis do not have.

That's fine. Hautpot got us the answer. :)

The reason why I asked is because I had a suspicion that they weren't made in Germany, but in Japan. It's a very common design over there, but never see it in Europe.

*snip*

In the case of the Knipex cutter images you posted, I notice the top version doesn't indicate a COO, while the bottom image does. So there may be a bit more than just a change in the jaw profile/shape to result in adding a letter to the end of a numerical P/N.

You're on to something. :D

I have a feeling (I could be totally wrong though) that it's used to signify products that Knipex doesn't produce themselves.

Yeah, Knipex uses letters after the product number to distinguish between different variations of a certain type of pliers. I first saw this when I was looking up some info on the 97 00 215 A crimping pliers:
crimp-grip-pliers-97-00-215a.jpg

By the same logic, I'm going to hazard a guess that those may not be made by Knipex. The cable stripper above is no longer offered, and so as the one you purchased second hand.

There's one at my workplace that's very similar to that and it has the exact same built-in stripper.

Here's a different one, but serves as a good example to show the many commonalities with yours:
