I was browsing a local second hand tool shop today. He mainly deals in woodworking tools, but I quite like the guy as he charges 'second hand tool' prices, rather than 'collectors tool' prices!

Couldn't resist this! Didn't think it had seen much use, which was confirmed once I cleaned it up! Worth five British Pounds I thought, which in bucks, allowing for the weak pound, tax, and continental drift is... not a lot!

Even one of my favourite makes!

Thats a Garringtons adjustable isn't it? I have only ever seen a couple of those, very well used and abused as well, that one looks like it had an easy life.

Yes! I should have pictured the other side! Garrington 'Red Diamond' to be precise, which I love the style and feel of!

Don't normally use adjustables a lot, but sometimes they really save the day, so I like to have one in each of my 'car boxes'. I've got quite a few other nice Garringtons - 6, 8, 10 and 12 inch, but as you say, most of the used ones seem to have had a very hard life so I was delighted to spot this one!

Interestingly, you might think that the Chromed wrenches are always the better option, but I find with these adjustables, that if you have a few dinks on the edge of the jaws it's feasible to take a small stone and polish them out. You can't do that with chrome. Not needed with his one though!

I prefer non chrome adjustables as well, I have some of each but they tend to get a hard life at work and the chrome ones show the wear worse.

I picked up this today, Wicksteed power hacksaw, awful photo as I put it in one of our storage containers before I thought to take a picture and it was already starting to get dark, needs a good clean and I haven't run it yet but it was £50, 16" blade, weighs 1/2 ton or so.

Monte must have the most lively and clean garden in Germany. :D
I don´t even have a own garden :eyecrazy: :)
But well the neighbours gardens look good now....

Monte: thanks for keeping this thread maybe the most popular thread on GJ. personally i love all my european tools and just don't have a lot of them.

this question is for you or whoever might know the best metal cutting blade for my old 250 Fein.

i love it and have used it a lot for wood and tile and I actually own 2 of them, but my SO CALLED METAL BLADES don't seem to cut. should i use the 1/2 moon shaped one and just go slow and steady or is their a better blade either made by Fein or I also buy other brands here that seem to fit my Fein.

thanks in advance and keep up the great work here!!
Thanks !
Which sort of metal are you cutting ? For regular sheet metal (autobody etc.) i would use the half moon blade, for nails + screws i would use the Bosch carbide blade.
Padre socket set 989hs Made in Germany?(ratchet probably taiwan made) i hope almost socket are made in Germany.
Maybe Monte know better than me?
The picture on the tool case shows a different ratchet and 1/4" handle.....
I hope the sockets are still made here :)
This is as close as the "Ali Baba's Tool Cave". A friend's old family warehouse.
A warehouse full of tools and even a forge ! Which man doesn´t dream of this !!? Thanks for the pics !!!
hey monte where can i purchase some zenten pipe shears?
Do they have to be from Zenten ? :) How about Rothenberger or Virax ?
Need some help;
I'm interested in buying Wago Variocrimp crimp pliers, but don't know who makes them? Handles look like Rennsteig... Or are they asian made? Are they worth 30$ used in good condition?[/IMG]
Thank you!
The only similar looking pliers i could find:
https://www.weitkowitz.de/produkte/werkzeuge/presswerkzeuge/handwerkzeuge/az-10/
But maybe Wago makes them ??

they´re about €140 new...

Yes, but if you compare for example this pliers

https://www.weitkowitz.de/produkte/werkzeuge/presswerkzeuge/handwerkzeuge/az-14/

except the grips, look identical to rennsteigs

https://www.rennsteig.com/de/produkte/crimpen/62-aderendhuelsencrimpzange-pew-8-184-8-185-8-186

I'll probalby try them out before buying, and bite the bullet if they're working properly.

Thanks for help!

Anyone know who makes these Draper Expert pliers? They are made in Germany, and at first I thought they would be NWS, but they don't have the same angle as the NWS I have seen. I read somewhere that Draper rebrands some Knipex pliers, but I can't see anything similar by Knipex.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005DMVSHY/?tag=atomicindustr-21

They were cheap enough (under $20 shipped to family in England when I visited), and I like them. Just wondered who made them!
Cheers

Looks like Orbis

IIRC Knipex bought Orbis, so they have something with Knipex :D

What makes me wonder is that Rennsteig doesn´t offer that exact Wago model. But for that price and since the tool is from a reputable company...

I had to buy this due to an emergency application where I didnt have access to corded power, and need a battery powered sawzall, and my other battery powered sawzall (ASE 18 LTX) was 3 states away at home.

Metabo SSE 18 LTX, made in china, the LED light is poorly done, and offers no useful light, just looks cheap compared to the way the light is done on the drills. Sparks quite alot around the brushes/commutator. Its supposed to fit jigsaw blades too, and it does, but its not particularly easy to mount the blades in. Came in a cardboard box, with a flimsy tool molded insert, but it was just cheap sheet plastic... Would've been nice if they'd shipped it with an actual case with a nicely done insert being as its a premium tool brand. At least something better than a cardboard box.

I definitely do not recommend Metabo when it comes to saws... I have their other very dated ASE 18, and the circular saw, and its actually the same model as one of rigid and ryobi's ancient now retired models. They're all pretty lackluster. I'm just in the unfortunate position of being on their battery system currently, and trying to make the most of it until my batteries die and I can swap to a brand with better offerings and customer service.

They discontinued the corded 316e model I'm guessing cause of this.. that was pretty great saw too.. wonder how the cordless model is.
They still offer corded models:

We have a much newer one of those, it needs some attention because employees have been abusing it but they are a beast of a tool, just very heavy. They were sold by Wolf here as well.

Chainsaw from Germany

I have an 012 but the top handle version, I picked it up used for very little, needs a little tuning as it dosent like hot whether, but runs fine if its cold, very loud saw though compared to a midern one.
