Thankfully, there are still so many used Record vices around at reasonable cost that few folks buy new ones.

I really regret not buying one of the Heavy Duty Paramo Engineers Vices when they were being sold off at half price about a decade ago though!

My old workplace had retired CNC vises for workshop use mounted on our Lista cabinets. I love Chick One-lok (USA) and Gerardis (Italy). The Kurt (USA) CNC vises are terrible. I heard Orange Vises (USA) are great too, but never used them.

We made a bunch of jaws for them too. We even had a pneumatic vise on a cabinet too.

I love desoutter stuff. I used to use their air tools professionally and have picked up quite a few bargains used (the more specialised the tool, the better the bargain) but I hardly ever see electric tools!

Kanzawa Samurai are a cheaper Japanese option. Around £20 on ebay for the rubber or wood handled 330mm versions. Impulse hardened blade like ARS work very well

It´s what my dealer offers The other dealer is selling ARS and Silky but "my" dealer sells ARS. They do have a yellow/black Silky saw laying in their display case though. He said it´s like choosing between Mercedes or BMW. Some swear by this and some swear by that...The ARS sales rep is better too he said.

Got this Metabo UHEV 2860-2 rotary hammer drill recently. 1100W made in Germany.

2 speed magnesium housing gearbox. Postion 1 for high torque low speed drilling, position 2 for high speed drilling and the usual hammer settings.

Variable electronic speed controls.

Comes with SDS-plus and standard quick chucks.

Handily the case can also carry a 4 or 5" grinder and other accessories.
Metabo WEV 10-125 vari speed grinder shown bellow.

Not cheap, but it certainly feels like a lot for your money. My grinder cost £109 gbp delivered and it came in a cardboard box ! The complete drill kit £153 (actually £128 as I reclaim the VAT) from Howe Tools Ltd.

I am seeing a lot of Wolf and Gardena in Belgium as well. I have noticed that almost all construction is plastic nowadays and I was wondering if they are strong/ reliable.

Yes, very good. Up there with the very best!

Probably 70% of my pliers are Elliott Lucas.

They’re still made, but the range is a fraction of what it was, and the quality has rapidly detiorated since the early 90’s!

Those particular ones look much older. Is the dip coating on the handles original?

Since the 50’s the common handles were a dark red dip coating, thicker black rubber, or plain. Before that, mostly plain!

Edit : Just had a look on eBay, and there’s definitely something a bit fishy about the handles on those. It’s a colour I’ve never seen before, and it suddenly appears on pliers of varying vintage, all being sold by the same vendor! Also, the dipping isn’t really to Elliott Lucas quality, and if you search eBay you will also find Wilkinson’s pliers with the same handles, sold by the same vendor!

So, if you fancy some Elliott Lucas pliers, go for it, but be wary of these! They may be ‘old stock’, but there doesn’t seem to be anything ‘new’ about them!

You can get new 6 inch combination pliers, still in the packing, if you search!

Thanks for taking a look on Ebay. I noticed the seller had different pliers with the same handle coating and thought they must have been all made by Elliott Lucas but rebranded. Much like we see different brands selling NWS pliers now. Guess I'm a bit naive. Didn't even consider he was dipping them himself.

Facom S.161B arrived today. Was looking for a repair kit for my S.161. Repair kit was £17, new ratchet was £26 so went for it.

S.161 has no COO mark. New S161B is marked 'Italy.'

I feel the same way as you. I actually like the comfort grips, but the "knuckles" at the front just prevent them from going in and out of a pocket.

The thing I don't like about the traditional grips is the printed part number etc rubs off quite quickly. Not such an issue with this sort of pliers but annoying with things like circlip pliers when you're trying to work out which one is missing.

In terms of normal use I am quite happy with either type but have a slight preference for the comfort grips on larger pliers. I like my cobra water pump pliers with the comfort grips. But I don't have them in and out of a pocket all day, the traditional grips are better for that.

Thanks for the heads up maico. The Grip-ons are much less rattly than other locking pliers.
