honestly i must confess that i don`t think that i will use the "Twister" often, I already have a ratcheting screwdriver from "Bahco" for a couple of month now but i don`t use it, i just grab the right screwdriver... But maybe during this year i`ll find some occasions to use the PB version because it`s sweet looking

Tell me more about that level. Also is it an electromagnet and how much does one cost(I must have one).

The level has a "mechanical" magnet just like the magnetic bases for dial indicators.
I removed a cap from the side of the level:

in the "off" position

in the "on" position. You can see the magnet on the bottom of the level now.

the level also has a prismatic sole. The vial has a built in magnifier/loupe so you can see it better for better accuracy of the reading. It is exclusively manufactured for the "Hoffmann-group" by BMI and only available at Hoffmann. It cost 29.20€ (34.75 € with 19% tax incl.). Hoffmann lists a dealer in the USA: www.toolcribinc.com . Maybe i would contact them and ask if they can get the "Garant" tools. The part number of the level is: "467010250"

hey phang ! didn`t even know there are 2 versions ! interesting ! I don`t know....since the PDF catalog, Newsletter and HP shows the version without knurling maybe the one i have is a updated version. Or it was an "test run" because the earlier version had a knurling too, but then they decided that without the knurling it looks better ??? i dunno, so i just sent them a email...

nice clamps ! Did you find the Gross-Stabil clamp lately or do you own it longer ?

I bought the Gross Stabil clamps several years ago. While I like the standard type Gross Stabil clamps ("Temperguss") a lot, I'm not a big fan of the Gross Stabil clamps pictured in the previous post ("Ganzstahl"). I prefer the Bessey GZ type.

Is your Blu-dan rasp hand-cut (larger pic ?) or "industrial-made" ?

I don't think so because they cost less than EUR 10. I wonder what happened to Blu-dan ("Brauns Söhne") lately. The website (www.braun-ibs.at) seems to be down.
If you're interested in hand-cut rasps have a look at Milani. I own a few of them and can't complain. Auriou rasps are no longer available, are they?

Not to derail the thread, but I am wondering Wizard1, if in China there is the same feelings about "made in China" vs. "Made in USA" or EU for that matter? I know for many Americans it's not that we don't think the Chinese are able to put out quality as we don't like the way they are underpaid and overworked in many of those factories.

As far as i know most tool box in the US are made in China.I like German made tools than others.Although They are expensive! And i am dreaming to travel to the United States to Buy some cheap Snap on!

I think i will order a screwdriver and a 12x13mm and 13mm combo wrench from Unior for the collection. Maybe some bicycle tools later this year. I`d like to find out if the locking pliers are from france (434-c, 434a etc.). Some clamps look like Bessey and they also have Weicon tools.
Actually i wanted to buy the micrometer but run out of money. The earlier models seem to be from "Mahr", i dont know where they source the newer ones from. So i`ll order the Garant version next time (only 5.- more regular price) or this Mitutoyo:

I don`t have any Garant wrenches yet, I`ll order the 13mm combo and 12x13mm next time. Well Snapon isn't too cheap in the US, unless maybe it's cheap compared to China's prices. But I agree, German (and I also like Swiss) made tools are hard to beat.

wizard 1: I don't know about getting cheap Snap-On tools in the USA. I have found that ebay is the best way not to pay high Snap-On prices. I have been able to buy several Snap-On sets brand new for about 1/2 the retail price all through ebay. Some other people in the forum may have other places to look. I like the tools you have .

I'm not sure about the prices for Snap-On overseas but if its anything like other premium US products(Surefire flashlights, Leatherman Multitools, Zippo Lighters, etc) the prices are usually half what you see elsewhere here. I can imagine if you are buying them from somewhere such as Australia you would save a fortune buying them here.

It's difficult to describe. I have the impression that the Gross Stabil "Ganzstahl" clamps come loose over time. Years ago, I used two of them to attach my Ulmia miter saw to the workbench. Although I tightened them properly, the clamps came loose after some time - no matter whether I used the saw or not. I never experienced this with the Bessey GZ, "TG" or the Gross Stabil "Temperguss" clamps.

Maybe, I'm not familiar with the history of and relationship between those companies.
Regarding Unior, I can't contribute anything either.

Weicon: I have owned one of their Swivel-blade Cable Strippers for years and never figured out how to adjust the cutting depth thoroughly without making at least five test cuts. Maybe the Jokari cable stripper I bought recently is a better choice. Do you have any experiences with the (expensive) Gedore and Weidmüller cable strippers?

I don`t have any Garant wrenches yet, I`ll order the 13mm combo and 12x13mm next time.

Honestly, I don't need any more combination wrenches but I'd love to have the 30 piece set Hazet 600 N and a bunch of Gedore 7 XL wrenches. And the Garant wrenches and the Stahlwille No. 14 combination wrenches are tempting as well.

Thanks for the details on the Garant tools. I should finally figure out if I can buy from Hoffmann next week.

I was wondering if those Unior ones are from France as well. When I was at Marcouty (tool shop in France), I asked the owner if he had any locking pliers in stock. Unfortunately, he didn't have any at the time (I was really ). I asked him he knows about Roux Outillage. I was probably pronouncing it incorrectly so he replied back with the proper accent. I said, "I think". He seemed to be pretty amused at the fact that I knew about the name. I said, "very small factory; produce for Facom". He was further amused and started talking, and proceeded to walk toward another side of the shop to show me a Unior catalog. He flipped through the pages, and showed me the section of the catalogue with locking pliers. I've never seen a Unior print catalogue, but there was what looked like a Roux product. I said, "yes, yes (!), you don't have anymore?". ....
Anyhow, I should'a asked the owner if they really are Roux-made.

I have the Jokari version of the Weicon tool and also have to make a test cut to see if it cut deep enough. I`m also interested in the Weidmüller/Gedore version since i cut a couple of welding cables lately and want a better tool now. But i guess the function is the same. And for 10.- bucks the Jokari/Weicon tools are ok.

Witte now offers the 3 component hook+pick sets also as "Witte" and not only solely for "Matco". New in the 2010 catalog on page 40. (dont have it yet, thats what Witte mailed me )

I also have enough wrenches, just need to buy the 600N sizes larger than 24mm , some missing stahlwille "open box 14" wrenches and the "Garant" wrenches for the collection.

i think Facom = Unior ??. The "Roux" ones look different (release lever etc.).
But the Unior + Facom also look different. If you look at the sheet metal body it look different. Facom + Roux look more similar except the release lever. So maybe they are made for Facom by Roux and the Uniors are knock-offs ?? (Taiwan ...?) I don`t know... Unior also sells knock-offs of the Grip-on axial grip pliers. (Note the jaws and release lever: Grip-on , Unior , Unior OEM ? ) So somebody has to buy them all including this ones and figure out

I have 3 motorcycles and a car , all at the basement car park of my apartment. I am living at the 4th floor, pushing my tool box from my apartment to the car park is too much of a hassle. I need something bigger than a hand carry box but not too heavy to break my back.

Got to improvise when you only have 1230sqft

I think Lust is also offered here. I regret that the Gross Stabil "Temperguss" clamps with the large plastic caps have been discontinued. They were great in my opinion.

I`m also interested in the Weidmüller/Gedore version since i cut a couple of welding cables lately and want a better tool now. But i guess the function is the same.

I think (I'm not sure) there's a difference. To my knowledge, the cutting depth of the Weidmüller tool is adjusted by turning the knurled "screw" on top of the handle. The blade is never moved. The function of the Gedore 8147 appears to be similar from what I can tell from the pics in the catalogue. This could be an advantage. So how about this: You get the Gedore and I'll purchase the Weidmüller tool?

Thanks. I asked one of my dealers (who carries Kukko) about the Turnus hook/pick set. He didn't know if he could get it. Another one - who sells Turnus clamps - emailed me that he couldn't order the set.
