@Hazet ,
I like your Hazet foam holder!:drool: But I can't afford it! It's too expensive in China!:( I just bought a cheap wrench organizer from ebay.

DSCN2523.jpg

I like your tools :). Those look nice and organized, which is the main objective. I do not have the deep offset wrenches yet, but I am working on it. I should received today my first Hazet torque wrench. I will post picks when I get it.

Stanley measuring tape . Stanley = USA ? nope ... "made in Thailand" ...
Called the customer service today... 3.95€ seemed to cheap to be made in their french plant...

Puntyx138.jpg

.... since i had the Stanley lady on the phone i requested more "country of origin" infos...: "FatMax Gen2 saw" (France), "Graphite hammer" (Taiwan), "MaxSteel side cutters" (Thailand), "FatMax snap-off blade knife" (Taiwan), "Folding rule" (China), "MaxSteel tin snips" (Taiwan), "FatMax XL screwdrivers" (France), "Cushion grip screwdrivers" (China), "Turbocut Hacksaw" (France)

I wonder if they make anything in the USA ? The only USA made tool i found so far is this Stanley razor blade scraper (part. no: 28-500)

Thats made by a different company than Stanley and is oftem rebranded here in the states. Stanley makes a bunch of tools now that are "made in USA with Global Materials".

I have this one pretty much anything else they make I can find an alternative thats entirely made here.

@american lockpicker:
do you know who the OEM of the Stanley scraper is ? Some Stanley knifes are made in England like this one. They also offer 2 saws from Germany, this one and this one.

@Hazet:
very nice torque wrench !!! +- 2% accuracy ...very precise...
i like the polished "face" of the Hazet ratchet heads.
ps: No ft. lb/in.lb scale ?

@wizard:
nice Wille torque wrench !!

here your "red dot" award for owning the most tools with red dots ! :D ;) ;)

Hazet,

I have that same wrench and the 3/8 version too. Do me a favor and check the play in that reversing lever. Is it sloppy? My 1/2 Hazet is MUCH sloppier than the 3/8 version which clicks smoothly and nicely between forward and reverse like any normal ratchet. My 1/2 on the other hand is very sloppy.

Monte, are those Hazet metric open end/box wrenches better than the Snap on? I sure do like them and would buy them in a minute at a reasonable price. What is a good price on the basic set of like 10-19 or so.

That is the only issue I have with the ratchet. The lever is a little sloppy. However, it does not affect the ratcheting in anyway. I tested it a few times in both directions to make sure that there was nothing wrong with the mechanism.

Thank you. That appears not to be a defect then, and just the way they are designed. Kind of weird but I'm happy to hear this is normal for that wrench.

it depends how you define "better".
From the quality of the finish ? No. You will see grind marks on the Hazet wrenches. So for a flawless finished wrench you are better off with snap-on etc. or taiwanese wrenches. The finish itself ? Depends on what you like . Smooth and sleek or shot blasted then plated = rough. Since a wrench is primarily for loosening + tightening nuts & bolts i say rough is better because it isn`t as slippery. Ok the others are better to clean so they are better if you polish more than wrench :) Regarding the strength: I once posted a wrench test (13mm combo wrenches) here (post #1087) where the box end of the regular SO as well as the flank-drive SO wrench and the Hazet wrench hold up to 240 Newtonmeter (test machine limit). On the open end side the regular SO wrench scored 135 Newtonmeters the flank-drive version 143 NM , Hazet 184 NM. The SO wrenches are 0,37mm/0,44mm thinner though. Regarding the precision SO measured 13.13mm and 13.11mm, Hazet 13.16mm , 0.03 to 0.05 mm more on the open end. On the box end SO measured 13.18 and 13.14mm Hazet 13.20mm , 0.02 to 0.06mm larger. On the box end with "flank-drive" or "Tractionsprofil" etc. the precision is less important since the "flanks" grab the sides of the bolts/nuts anyway. (It was invented so you need a less precise manufacturing a Gedore employee once told me...). But you will find different measurements on the same tools since the broaching tool get used up so one 13mm wrench could measure 13.15mm and next month 13.14mm for example. Here the wrench test page with the Snap-on wrenches click and Hazet click

So i don`t know it`s up to you. Maybe other members can chime in - ask wizard1 for example what he thinks :) ;)

For prices check out Chadstoolbox: 8 piece set , or 12 piece set (10-22mm). Samstagsales also has them (Type 600N)

ps: in case you didn`t know it already - here is a video where you see how these Hazet 600N wrenches are made: click (the "Kabel Eins" video)

Monte, maybe you can shed some light on this Metabo grinder I just got.

I purchased it a few weeks back on ebay. Paid $25 for it, with 8 7" Sait grinding discs. Got the grinder and after firing it up, it was clear someone had ran these oversized discs on this 4 1/2" grinder for some time... one of the main bearings was shot and making noise. Seller refunded my purchase without question. New bearing was $3 shipped and it runs amazing now. Going to put a new wire wheel on it.

It has no model sticker left, has 6 variable speeds by dial on the back, had a coolant line fitting on the gear box side (well, what was left, a small 3/8" nylon braided hose had obviously ran to the grinding/cutting disc).

Anyone know a good source for them in the US? Heidenpeter/format. I wonder if they hold up better than the Young Bros? (American brand)

TITLE; "MORANGIS, it's grawling at FACOM's"
NEWS HOST;
"...other employees from french subsidiaries were on strike to show their disappointment this afternoon in front of FACOM's at MORANGIS, 183 french positions will be made redundant by the tool manufacturer which will also dismiss 2500 employees in the world, unions and executives were still negotiating this afternoon."
UNION GUY;
"we refuse any dismissing because the STANLEY FACOM GROUP is still profitable, keeps investing in companies far from tool manufacturing, money is still there, 570 million dollars were invested in 2008 to buy other companies ,that definitely proves that the stanley-facom group has money."
END

Morangis is near Paris and it has been the distribution center of facom for decades.

Sorrry for the quality of the translation, although i had to translate and comment the NEWSWEEK neo-communist theories for years during my engineering studies I forgot that incredibly interesting knowledge to focus on bolts and nuts.

Monte,

Thank you for that wonderful comparison information on the Hazet vs. Snap-on wrenches. I have studied it closely.

I was wondering with all that tremendous selection of screwdrivers that you own, which one do you reach for first for routine matters?

Also, can you tell me which you prefer between the Hazet 801 and 802 screwdrivers? Are these made by Hazet or does someone make them for them? Are they each German made?

There is a guy selling the 803's on Ebay, I wondered if it was a good deal?

Unfortunately the Young Bros. website give no information which hardness their stamps have.
Another source of steel letters + numbers is "Turnus" from germany which are available from Samstagsales click
I`ve sent Heidenpeter a mail requesting info if they have a US distributor.
Here is their Ebay shop in DE for prices: click

@Hawk:
The NWS pliers don`t have a "V"-shaped groove like the "screw pliers" from japan. This would be a good idea , but i guess it`s patented.

@american lockpicker:
i once had a fake (tear gas) Glock 17 which are sold here...
send it via PM if you like

The scissors seem to be made by www.gardena.com a famous german company manufacturing garden tools.

This is the new version of your Gardena "Schnipp Schnapp" garden scissors with soft grip:

@Mr. Mark:
The blades of the 801 + 802 screwdrivers look like they`re from Witte or Schröder, if you compare how their blades with the hex bolster look like with this Witte and this Schröder they look close. The discontinued "Ultra" screwdrivers were made by Witte. The blades of the 803 (black handle and blue handle) have different blades though. Hazet has the design patent for the 801 "TrinamicUltra" screwdrivers, in a german forum a Hazet employee said that they have their own dies for the handle, so probably they borrow the dies to Witte or just buy the blades from them . No of the 802 + 803 drivers say "germany" though. I can check the 801 next week or so, a buddy has a couple of them. The best is to ask the ebay seller since in the US iirc you have to put the origin on the tool or package , in germany not. The price is ok. The 803 is a basic simple screwdriver.

My screwdriver drawer looks like this. I have a 2nd set of these "Wurth" (made by Felo for Wurth (combination between Felo "Ergonic" and Felo 550 series) screwdrivers (pic in the middle) who will go into my 2nd box. If i would restart and only wanted to buy 1 set i probably would buy the Felo 550 series. But i always would buy a set with hex blades + bolster and striking cap as "general workshop screwdriver" and a 2nd set for "normal use"

But it`s a matter of taste and a matter of hand size etc. what you will like or prefer.

translucent screwdrivers: fop, facom*3, sam
on the right facom ergotwist (what a piece of sh...), opel flat/phillips, muller phillips (I think it's asian made) stahlwille flexible hose clamp screwdriver and a stubby flat screwdriver.
In the box; bost mini torx the green part rotates so you can push with your second finger and turn with the first and third one.

sixth photo
lauravia torque wrench
wanoda combination spanners dispenser (wanoda specialized in automotive tools like wilmonda)
snap on ratchet (I know, but it's suspected to have made it through here during ww2)

lauravia
proto 36mm ( I know too, I had to save it because the guy at the junkyard used it to stirr molten lead (some people deserve some "coup de boule) now I've scored it he does that with a rebar.
The 3 sockets are a mistery to me, they are in fractionnal sizes and have an "M" stamped on them inside a lozenge.

Maxipouce, welcome to GJ, and thanks for posting your finds!

Lots of interesting stuff, with names I've never heard of.

The "M" hex sockets are American, and manufactured by the Frank Mossberg Company in the early 20th century (Lots of information to be found here).

Based on the forging/broaching/and "CR-V" on the "Karat" sockets, I think they are offshore pieces--probably China; possibly Taiwan.

That Wurth adjustable wrench is mostlikely a product of Spain, by Irega.

You mention the Facom Ergotwist being a POS...that's regarding the state of condition the handle is in, right? Just wondering because I really like the profile of that handle.

I went to the local flea market yesterday and found a pair of used Gardena shears with the same plastic handle as Lockpicker's, but it did not say "Germany" anywhere.

I rummaged through this one small box of old wrenches. Found a rather larger combi. wrench that read "Made In Germany". I looked at the open-end which had a distinct offset to it and thought, "are you a 'wille?". The beam design was different. I turned it over and "Garant".

I went home with a 27mm 'wille for $2. :thumbup:

Forezienne euuhhh I don't cut 100 tons of wood a day so I am pretty sure I won't need their tools.
I do not know Roux ser gio, and boehm and racodon are hardly on the market.
Only a few Virax plumbing tools are really from them all the rest is made by someone else, their pipe bending presses were from mingori, their shop presses were from rassant.

Sambre et meuse , Dolex, I can't pay 400€ for a vise and I would prefer a "aviation" vise.

Thank you superautobacs for the mossberg sockets i was guessing they were ww1 old or economical pre ww2 "newer" models.
Good thing that the karat sockets are cheap ones i bought them 1€ each to have some female 3/4 attachments when i make tools.
I do not like the ergotwist facom screwdrivers because they are too slippery when oily, they do not resist agricultural chemicals and the tips of the blades are weaker than the enduro series, you can still keep yours as they do a great job under normal conditions.
Here is the answer for american lockpicker and a few french goodies.
petzl leborgne lamp
a ROCH caliper
a facom steel ruler

Monte:

I am ordering some Felo 550's on your recommendation. I don't understand why anyone would need to pound on a screwdriver (other than electrical knockout's) and especially not phillips, so I am not sure the purpose of the striking cap. Maybe to remove tiles or grout with a flat blade? I do have Wiha with the striking cap and they are not very well balanced because of that. They are strong though.

You crack me up with this:

buy hazet buy hazet buy hazet........ :D ;)

I do have one Hazet wrench for MB spark plug boot removal. It's used as a pry bar and it is essential to the job on M112 motors.

Very interesting and exotic tools !!!!!
How do these wrenches work ???
attachment.php

Is the Facom repair kit and the Würth kit (gears etc.) exactly 1:1 the same ??? I thought the new Facom ratchets are sourced no longer from Facom... The old ones are 1:1 Facom (except the red handle)

leborgne is the brand of my sledgehammer and my headlamp (petzl in fact)
sacca ??????wtf????? how do you know that ****?

The Leborgne hammers look cool somehow :) John Deere style :)
sacca ??? Found it through internet research :) never saw a tool from them though.

I do not know Roux ser gio, and boehm and racodon are hardly on the market.

Gio tools = www.gillet-tools.com I think they are the OEM of hose clamp pliers and other stuff which is also sold as Facom and also around the world also in the US (Mayhew etc.) (in their video you can see a second how they are made)
Roux = www.outillage-roux.com Ser= www.bessey-ser.fr
In germany you find the MOB (in germany = "Peddinghaus") gasket punches often, never saw the Boehm ones. Racodon i also only saw rebadged as Facom, "KS-Tools" and "Roebuck" from the UK.

Sambre et meuse , Dolex, I can't pay 400€ for a vise and I would prefer a "aviation" vise.

you can get "Ridgid" drop forged vices for a good price

I rummaged through this one small box of old wrenches. Found a rather larger combi. wrench that read "Made In Germany". I looked at the open-end which had a distinct offset to it and thought, "are you a 'wille?". The beam design was different. I turned it over and "Garant".
I went home with a 27mm 'wille for $2. :thumbup:

pics ? :D ;)

@Mr. Mark:
The striking cap is good to give the screwdriver a hit to remove rusted screws. So the rust/screw breaks loose. Or to (mis)use them as a small chisel etc. I think you will be happy with the Felos .
:D already bought the Hazet wrenches ?? :D
