Good find, though there are a good few of these around!
Stanley offered two different grades of ball pein hammer, in accordance with the relevant British Standards.
The cheaper grade had ash handles, and can be recognised by the painted sides to the head.
The better grade had hickory handles, and polished sides to the head.
NOS hickory also available on ebay but it's not a proper English hammer if it has a hickory handle.
One thing I noticed about the Stanley handles is that there is no concave area to hold on to so it wants to slip out of your hand. Compared to Whitehouse.
