Good find, though there are a good few of these around!

Stanley offered two different grades of ball pein hammer, in accordance with the relevant British Standards.

The cheaper grade had ash handles, and can be recognised by the painted sides to the head.

The better grade had hickory handles, and polished sides to the head.

NOS hickory also available on ebay but it's not a proper English hammer if it has a hickory handle. :spit: :)

One thing I noticed about the Stanley handles is that there is no concave area to hold on to so it wants to slip out of your hand. Compared to Whitehouse.

There's nothing like a nice piece of hickory!
This 'lump hammer' - was made in England in 1983 according to the stamp.
Purchased from a Ministry of Defense dealer - unfortunately I didn't take a photo of it before I started using it. It had never been used!

General Monte, and others... Homework question for all. :D
Does anyone have some information about Schmole tools? I searched the web, but almost nothing can be found.
It is extinct German brand. I have a few wrenches, and they seem very quality - on the level with other top brands. It would be interesting to hear something about the company, and their history. How did they ranked compared to other brands, considering quality?
What is interesting: there is no "Germany" on wrenches, just "Schmole" and pine tree logo. And i don't believe they were produced outside of Germany.

Speaking of which, I have seen some vintage tools (wrenches, pliers, etc) from various brands (Gedore, Hazet, WgB, Knipex, etc...) without "Germany" markings. What is with that?

Surprise-surprise... Schmole - so much for start - I also saw. Pretty rough sockets. Also, no idea.
For no-branded tools - maybe knock offs?
There was story, here, of course, that some tools at least had to have COO on the package, if not visible stamped on themselves.
Last but not least - WH, pay visit to 2020 Garage Sale Thread...

Tough deal..
At least the home improvement stores are open here.

We can get that sort of stuff. Many places are still open as it’s considered essential. Some firms are doing ‘click and collect’, so you order online, then just pick it up. That way there’s no need to hang around in the shop, and the guys in the shop don’t have to handle cash.

Probably just as well, there are loads of projects being worked on right now!

Some of my eBay and new purchases from March to now.

Bought an old electricians work bag with most tools from the 70s. Also bought three new screwdrivers.
IMG_8906.jpg

The work bag was a great find. Many cool old tools, and in good condition.
The Stahlwille screwdriver, Hazet stubby and Bahco stubby was bought new.

Some mixed purchases (some north american tools snuck in also).

Some old tools in good condition from eBay.
Klein and Picquick screwdrivers bought new.

More mixed purchases with some North American spies.
IMG_9044.jpg

The USAG wrench with the price tag still attached I got at 1/10 of original price on eBay.
Cool old Snail Brand adjustable wrench bought on eBay.
The Stahlwille wrenches are just some of all I bought, I got a complete 10-19 set from TBS-Aachen.

And lastly, some self promotion. My 250mm water pump pliers collection, and the picture comes with a video:

Some nice stuff there. A Hazet 600 in WHITWORTH for one!

I like the Wera hex driver on the right.

I much prefer those older handles to the current soft ones!

Wish they still offered those.

Great collection! Can you tell us some prices? :)
By the way, that Bahco screwdriver in the top left corner, ph2, 8620s. Is "Sweden" just printed in white letters, no other Sweden markings on the tool?
I have a Bahco ph4 screwdriver, 8640s (photos in the attachment). But there are no COO markings on it, no "Sweden". And the tool looked too quality to be made outside of Sweden. Bearing in mind your photo, I suppose, maybe there where some letters on my tool, that faded away. Generally speaking, where these series of bahco screwdriver made only in Sweden? Any idea, what period of time they belong to?
I always wondered is my PH4 made in Sweden, now i feel I am close to the answer... xD

That is impressive! I have five 250mm water pump pliers, and I recently wondered "is it too much". xD
Now, that I see this, guess no need for wondering. :)
I am attaching one pliers, that I am certain you don't have - Bost France. :)
Anyone know something about Bost? How are they ranking considering quality?

Bost made/makes pliers and screwdrivers for Facom, as it is owned by Facom. Now, as Facom is owned by Stanley Black&Decker, so is Bost - I bought some Stanley Made in France screwdrivers. As it sufficed for Facom - it should be suited for most

Sure!
Some rough currency conversions, and I got more stuff than I included in the pictures. Also excluding shipping for the items that were shipped.

The first picture was €30 for the used stuff. The Stahlwille screwdriver was €5 in one of those sudden strange low prizes from Amazon. The Bahco stubby was €2 on a clearance sale at a local store. The Hazet stubby was regular price.

Second picture about €26 for the used items. The Gedore ratcheting wrench and american screwdrivers was normal prices.

Third picture was again around €35 for the used stuff. The new stuff (Gedore ratcheting wrench, Wiha bottle opener, Gedore hex socket, Stahlwille wrenches) was list price at TBS-Aachen.

The solid Ergo-style handles (before the two-component Ergo) were all Sweden I think. I'm not sure though, since the same "Bahco Sweden" print was on the green handle ones even after they moved production to Germany. But also those German made one has a small Germany emboss, so I still think the other ones are Swedish made. Also the timeline makes me think that. On Bahcos homepage they say that the Ergo line was introduced 1982. And these handles have that style, but are not called Ergo, so that should mean they are from before 1982. Again, I'm not sure, I don't have catalogues from the time period so that I have been able to verify this. I'll try to get some pictures.

There is no such thing as too many tools! Just storage problems to be solved :)

Bost is nice I would say, the brand is almost killed by Stanley Black & Decker but still good tools. I would like to have more french tools, but here most tools you find are Swedish or German (or modern cheap ones).

Yeah, I wonder if the 23 markings were added because someone couldn't figure out the 1/2"W marking :) It doesn't look like a factory marking.

Old hard Kraftform are neat. They seem to hold up very good, have many used ones and all are still in ok condition.

Thanks for the info! :)

@TjoFrasse
Cool prices for such quality stuff! Well done!
Another question about Bahco. :) Is there any way to determine how old is some Bahco adjustible wrench, according to the markings on it? I have 8" adjustable, which besides Bahco made in Sweden inscription, also have "B A Hjorth." I am trying to figure out how old it is. I will post some photos, during the next few days.

So, Bost is another nice brand ruined by takeovers. :) Those pliers caught my attention, exactly because of the France inscription. It was interesting to me, because (like yourself) I have only few tools made in France. Anyway, that pliers seem very quality.

There is a guy who has put together a very comprehensive guide for all Bahco adjustable wrenches. Unfortunately it's all in Swedish...
Perhaps you can make to with some translation services: https://skiftnyckeln.blogspot.com/p/3e-generationen.html

It sounds like a third generation one, like I linked. A 71 or perhaps 81. They have a large time span, from 1924 to 1969.

Can anyone identify the makes of the flat head screwdrivers and pin-punches?
This is from a German tech manual printed in the 70s-80s.
I assume the tools are likely of German origin.

Edit: Engineering hammer looks similar to an engineering Stahwille hammer.
One of the screwdrivers looks to have a Belzer style handle.
The other plastic handle and the two with wooden handles I have no idea about.

CGarage,

I don't think Stahlwille makes hammers. The is based on a DIN standard so any hammer manufacturer can chose to produce it. I'd guess it could be a Picard or a Peddinghaus since they specialize in hammers.

The acetate handled screwdriver looks like a Wiha?

CGarage - if you were referring to screwdriver number 2, that looks like a Wiha item rather than a Belzer.

I’ve attached a picture of both (not the right size, but you get the idea) and you can see that the handle in your picture appears to be a Wiha. You can’t really see the shaping on the corners in my photo, but looking at the actual handle, it seems to be correct!

Wiha supplied tools to many other firms. They supplied custom tools to HK, for example, such as the MP 5 sight adjusting tool, which has a very similar styled, but customised, handle. That particular screwdriver in your picture is a standard item. I think I have that exact one somewhere - I bought a set when they dropped those handles fairly recently.

Belzer were one of the first firms to produce pin punches with the sliding sleeve. I was outbid on a set on U.K. eBay only a few months back. I think that Jack84 is correct, and those are the Belzer ones, but I don’t recall the reduced diameter heads. I would need to see the original Belzer and the current ones side by side to be sure! That style of punch is currently offered by Stahlwille and Facom. I don’t know who the actual maker is.

Local hardware shop is shut, though there is a phone no on the door if you want to order something for delivery, 2 closest builders merchants are currently completely shut, local timber yard is completely shut. No paint supplier in the area is open, our window guy hasn't found a glass supplier open yet.
Screwfix is open for click and collect and delivery. There is no other similar business locally or no big box diy stores for 15-20 miles
2 further away builders merchants are partially open, one delivery only to account holders, the other collect only if you order in advance to account holders only.
A local ish ground works firm is allowing collection from their yard, they have drainage, water pipes, pumps etc.
The concrete firms are still going as is the quarries.
The little work I could still be doing we just can't get hold of the needed materials for.

Sounds like your area has closed down a little more than mine!

Normal shops are all shut of course, but builders merchant is open, though restricting numbers in shop. DIY shop is open, but limiting numbers in the shop too, and asking for card payment. Screwfix next door is click and collect, so between them I can get some stuff, such as paint. Big timber merchant is shut, haven’t tried my usual one. So, O.K. for DIY and essential repairs, which is probably the intention!

These arrived quite sometime ago. I only just unpacked them today.

Knipex 42 34 280 Welding Grip Pliers.

The other set on the rack are Knipex 42 44 280. The ones with the movable jaws. I bought them to use with 4 Fireball Tools Mega and Monster Squares I had got. Unfortunately the pad feet on the Knipex didn't fit through the holes in the squares! So I just had to get the 42 34's.

I also finally got around to unpacking these Kant Twist clamps. 2" (405) and 2 1/2" (407) sizes.
Made by Clamp Manufacturing Company, Inc., based in South El Monte, CA. Since 1973, as I understand it. Made in the USA.

An impromptu temporary modification to the clamp rack required.
