@sick puppy:
I guess the Knipex and Facom pliers are better because of the piano wire inserts which are stronger than the regular pliers with forged tips.
I don`t know which ones you`d rather buy , i guess "King Tony" because the name sounds cool ??? :D ;) no i guess Knipex :D ;)
You also could take a look at the new Wiha pliers with notches in the tips:

@Bhae:
nice!!! Thanks for the pics !!! I like the vises !!
Unfortunately the new ones are quite expensive.
Irimo_BenchVices01.jpg

Also the new vises look like they are cast metal, yours is forged

@Monte: Yes new, cast steel.

From: www.irimo.net:

Vices

IRIMO is the most traditional brand in the manufacture of vices in the Spanish market. IRIMO screw offers more accurate, more powerful and stronger in the market.

- High quality cast steel and high resistance
- Well above the requirements of the UNE 16,598

Supports toughest test without deformation, without suffering stiffness or looseness or nods.

IRIMO also offers a complete line of protective jaws both polyurethane and aluminum.

Thanks !! Are there other spanish vise manufaturers ??

@lipadj46
nice tool collection !!! Harry Epstein has some great deals ! I like those wrenches too ! (and pliers + sockets + ....) :) Do the insulated screwdrivers say "Spain" or "Germany" ?

:) thanks for the pics !!
i wish my parents would let me use their garage back then (but it is even narrower, built in the 50`s for a VW Käfer...) . But as long as there is enough space and you can work on cars there it`s a very good place i think. Everything fits in there, no rent (?) (or low) i guess - and it seems to be a nice + quiet street + neighborhood (ok maybe except you work with a impact gun :D ). ps: what jack stands did you use in the last pic with the A4 ?? (looking for stands which don`t damage the underbody) A buddies neighbor works in a similar place since decades and he just bought a moveable hydraulic lift to lift up the whole car.

You guess right! Your remarks re: their quality sold me on them in fact, and I've now spent far far too much on tools lately because of you and this forum in general! lol

I remember the point re: piano wire inserts, and I'm certainly inclined to go for the Knipex precision ones- I was wondering about the their pivot points/ fasteners with the torx sockets, someone here (I forget who) didn't like them for some reason? Now to decide whether to ship them from the UK or the US, and the set of four, or set of eight!

Bhae,

Is that Sandvik chisel made in Spain? I have an URKO that looks exactly like that.

Moose,

I like how you have all those green storage bins on that one wall. Are you happy with its utility?

It is big enough to work in, but a bit tight. With the Audi S4 in, i measured that i had 3-4" at the back, from the rear bumper to the garage door, 30" either side and 22" from the front bumper to my toolbox.

No air compressor yet, so no noise from that. :)

My friend who owns the S4 has a garage the same size, detached from his house with a piched roof. I may rent it from him to use as my own little shop. I would have a lot more space in there with nothing else but my toolbox and a workbench. :) (And maybe a compressor, some welders, an engine stand, an engine crane.. etc.. :D)

The S4:

Built in Germany too!

Moose,

They're mostly used for storing the assorted junk we have in the garage. They'd be great for storing useful things, but we really need to clear them out properly.

Very Nice workshops.

I found some bargain NOS Record 4" C-Clamps.

Most of the new Record products I see here now are Made overseas. The blue shade is somewhat different from the English made ones. Even from a far you can distinguish the ones made from Sheffield.

@ Monte

Both the regular C-Clamp and the sliding arm clamp styles are very popular. Record use to be very big here so there are still some NOS floating around here and there.

In the US the C-clamps seem to be more popular , here in europe the sliding clamps, so i was wondering how the situation is in different parts of the world ! thanks !

@Bhae:
nice plane and spokeshave ! Metal planes are seldom seen here. In germany there is only 1 manufacturer left who makes metal planes: www.kunz-tsm.de

I found a pair of nippers in a box of rusty stuff, and paid $1 for it since I thought it was cool. Underneath all the rust - to my surprise - I found the inscription "Occupied Germany British Zone". Guess that dates and locates the tool, eh?

Thanks in large part to this thread, the acquisition of European ratchets and tools is becoming quite an addiction...

Nice tools, How about matador sold in Germany? Thanks for the pics!

They are usually available in stores for the professional user. However there is one Big Box store who carry them here called Bauhaus. There are also 5 Bauhaus stores in Spain but i don`t know if they carry the german offering (Matador, Wera, Bessey, Erdi, Knipex, Wolfcraft etc.) www.bauhaus.es

Two old German HEYCO vs Mercedes Benz wrenches that i got here:

Indeed they seem to be very old !! very nice !!!!

Maybe a stupid question but...can those rusty old wrenches be re-chromed?

Theoretically yes. Just give them to a chrome plating shop.

Today, I received via FedEx overnight delivery from Japan my Nepros purchases from last week. The total came to about $150 (including shipping).

First up is a 1/4" drive, low profile metric socket set (4mm - 14mm).

P1000830.jpg

P1000831.jpg

P1000832.jpg

A pleasant surprise is the detailing and smooth operation of the 1/4" drive socket rails. I like the extra touches such as the chrome steel round stock, the "Nepros" name appearing on both ends of the rails, and the 2 mounting holes on the ends. The most unique socket rails I have ever seen :thumbup:.

Next up is the Nepros angled nose plier. I own a pair of Stanley straight and angled Taiwanese pliers. I do not have confidence in the Stanley angled nose because I broke the tips off the straight tip version during normal use.

P1000833.jpg

P1000835.jpg

I find the Nepros mirror finish to be unique. Time will tell the durability of the finish. I also like the grippy material applied to the handles.

Next up is a 1/2" drive universal joint. I also own the 1/4" and 3/8" drive versions of the universal joints. They are indeed 13mm shorter in length than its competitors. I measured the Nepros against their equivalent Craftsman counterparts.

P1000836.jpg

Lastly, I purchased a 3/8 drive, 8mm hex bit socket. It is a two piece design for durability. I wonder if they are as durable or strong as the ones made by Snap-on?

How much were those Nepros socket rails?

The machining on the hex bit socket sure looks nice. Or is that cast? Also, is that black ring made of rubber? Is that for gripping with greasy hands?
