@Dave:
wow very nice purchase !!!!!!!!! The tools look really nice !!!!
Are the sockets extra shallow ? How long is lets say the 10 mm socket ?
How does the chrome finish compare to Snap-On ?
Do you have any Nepros wrenches ?

How much were those Nepros socket rails?

The machining on the hex bit socket sure looks nice. Or is that cast? Also, is that black ring made of rubber? Is that for gripping with greasy hands?

MarcSeattle,

I do not believe it is possible to purchase separately the Nepros socket rails. The socket rail came with the 1/4" drive metric socket set.

I believe Nepros stamped not cast the size and manufacture information on the hex bit socket. The black ring on the bottom of the hex bit is indeed rubber to provide extra grip for greasy hands.

Take care,

Dave

Monte,

Thanks for the complement!

The 1/4" drive metric sockets are indeed extra shallow. The 10mm socket is about 11/16" or 17.5mm in length.

I think the chrome on the Nepros tools is nicer than that of Snap-on. The chrome on the Nepros is shiny compared to dull for the Snap-on's. I really like Nepros' "Mirror Finish" process. Time will tell if it is more durable than Snap-on's finishing process.

Currently, I do not have any Nepros wrenches. In the next month, I plan on purchasing from Nepros the 10x12mm (NM11L-1012) and 12x14mm (NM11L-1214) double box, extra long wrenches.

Take care,

Dave

Steelespeed,

Nepros manufactures all of their 3/8" and 1/2" drive socket sets with the rubber ring. It does not include this feature with any of their 1/4" drive sockets.

At the moment, I do not have any more Nepros pictures. Later, this month, I am going to purchase the 10x12mm and 12x14mm double box extra long wrenches; the long nose plier, and maybe something else. I will post the pictures when the tools arrive at my home.

Thanks,

Dave

Wouldn't this be New World? :bounce:

A pair or two are on my list, however.

Also: ended up getting the Peddinghaus 2000g hammer. Good stuff.

And some Facom offset wrenches from Harry Epstein. And some more gardening tools from Bahco, made in France and in Sweden. And A bunch of Bahco hacksaw blades (Sweden).

Also some Facom steel snips. (For banding, etc). All good stuff at cheap USD prices for those who don't know about it.

BMW used to include fairly complete, quality tool kits with their bikes. The newer bikes have very few or no tools at all. With my 1994 RS a decent tool kit was included:

853071875_XrbeN-M.jpg

All of the tools are made by Heyco, there is even a feeler guage for measuring the ABS sensor gap.

I have always liked the BMW accessory toolkit, sometimes called "Super Toolkit", I bought one a couple of years ago:

853071639_XpmZ5-M.jpg

Again almost all of the tools are Heyco and typical German quality. Wrenches:

853071784_xDiQ6-M.jpg

Sockets and tire pressure guage. The guage has a slip on valve core remover:

853071833_MPYwg-M.jpg

Also included with the bike was a flat tire repair kit which thankfully I haven't needed:

853071926_LZANc-M.jpg

Last, misc German tools including a Knipex clamp pliers, a Hazet oil filter wrench for BMW MC oill filters, and the Wurth feeler guages for valve adjustments:

I'll try to get some pics within the week:)

I don't know much about paint guns. But I've hard good things about the Sata. Where is it made? Who else is making a good paint gun?

I was surprised by how well done the Facom offset wrenches were. They were superlight too. Don't have the impressive heft of an SO or Armstrong or Proto or old Plomb (my main frames of reference) but at the price and for the few times I'll need them, they'll do the job.

Hi, I'm new on this forum,

I've not watched every pages of this thread so I hope that these wrenches have not been presented yet.

Me too :)
I just bought the Sata because it`s available everywhere over here. Should be easier to get spare parts in 10 or 20 years. I think "Würth" and "Hazet" paint guns are also from Sata which makes it even easier to get parts. Next to Sata "Devilbiss" and "Anest Iwata" are big names in paint guns. There are other smaller companies like "Walther-Pilot" from germany and several manufacturers from Italy, but Sata, Devilbiss and Anest are the most popular.

ps:
Sata is made in....: :)

yes Facom has some nice tools ! From the finish they`re usually better than many other Euro tools. The lightest wrenches AFAIK are from Stahlwille (with "recessed beam")

@Cantause:
welcome to the forum and this thread ! :)
No these wrenches weren`t posted yet ! (AFAIR)
I only posted the new Facom ratcheting wrenches once somewhere:

What's the difference between the ratcheting wrenches that Cantause posted and the ones that Monte posted? Just a different appearance with the same ratcheting mechanism, or something more?

Hi Marc,

Monte's wrenches are the replacement of mines.

Before, Facom had the 40 series for regular wrenches and 67 series for ratcheting (mines), now the 40 has been replaced by the 440 and the 67 by the 467. Both 440 and 467 share the same curved shape, but as the ratchet side looks very similar on the 67 and 467, both 72 tooth, same reverse handle, I suppose they are the same.

At least Facom hasn't said loud that there was a mechanical revolution in the 467...

Servus, folks,

Wow, as usual, lot's of great contributions. In particular, I like those Nepros and Facom tools.

@chreese:
wow nice pics !!! how did you do that :) ??

Thanks. My brother ((almost) a professional photographer - he hasn't finished his apprenticeship, yet) took those pics. High quality pics of other tools will follow.

@Monte:
What opinion do you have about the tools of KS tools

Last year, I bought a few tools from KS Tools: LokPlus extensions, a manual impact driver, a set of short spiral screw extractors and a set of external extractors.
The LokPlus extensions didn't work properly. Several sockets of different brands (Berner, Stahlwille, Gedore, Proxxon etc.) didn't fit. I got Stahlwille QuickRelease extensions instead and couldn't be happier.
I tested the impact driver and that one should be ok.
I used one of the short spiral screw extractors once and was satisfied with its performance. I was able to remove the damaged screw while the regular screw-type screw extractor failed.
Since I haven't used the external extractors, yet, I can't comment on them.
My personal conclusion: I would buy special tools that are hard to find from other companies from KS Tools if they are reasonably priced. I would also buy KS Tools products if they are noticeably cheaper than *comparable* tools from other manufacturers. But as for "regular tools" (such as sockets, wrenches, ratchets, pliers etc.) I will opt for brands such as Stahlwille, Hazet, Gedore, Knipex etc. that seem to offer higher quality.

Is the new handle better ? I'm assuming the blue part is soft ?

I've been looking at the new Gedore ratchet but found out they are higher priced then the Hazet ones at the moment.

If you could use another 1/2" socket set, you might contemplate the Gedore anniversary socket set. A great investment for approx. EUR 100 to 110.

-the good thing abot KS is that they have a tool catalog with more than 900 pages of tools, so I don`t think anybody else (Toptul etc.) can beat that.

The catalogue is impressive, indeed, but there are no prices mentioned. I was glad that KS Tools sent me a printed catalogue (a buddy of mine only got a CD-ROM), nevertheless I would have appreciate a price list. Besides, (more or less) important information that other companies provide is missing in the KS Tools catalogue. For example, the dia of sockets is not mentioned in the KS Tools catalogue.

BTW, there are new Hoffmann and Hahn+Kolb promos. What do you think about the Atorn clamps on page 22 (HK Nachrichten 02/2010)? Are they made by Turnus?
I found the Hazet 1/4" Hinox socket set for EUR 159 + VAT. Would you get it for that price even if you did not need it (right now)?

Greetings from Europe,

Chreese

The Facom I-beam wrench design makes a lot of sense from an engineering point of view. More strength for the same amount of steel, plus more comfortable to use. Is it a pain to clean them?

That could well be the case.
Personally, I THINK the design change has a lot to do with Facom being bought by Stanley, and they are trying to save a buck by doing more buy-in, outsourcing, relocation, etc....
I've seen the 440 wrenches, held them in my hands, and they are not nearly as well finished as the old facom. As a mather of facts, I've seen Taiwan tools (Kraftwerk) with really better finish then the new Facom.
I also feel that the old Facom is more comfortable to work with then the new 440's.

I thought I'd share some pics of the Hoffmann torx I bought last year.
They should be rebranded Stahlwille according to the saleman. After looking at them, and the box they come in, he might as well be right.

Last week, I went on "The Internets", and found a guy selling a couple of brandnew Knipex pliers.
Turns out he also had some new screwdrivers.
After some haggling, I was €70 poorer, and a bunch of tools richer:

According to the Ultimate Garage owner, the new Facom 400 series are made by Toptul. Below is his response to my email. I still think the older made in France tools are superior in quality to the newer Taiwan made stuff. Although, Toptul is a decent tool maker.

"Some of the hand tools are now being made by Toptul in Taiwan.........great quality (very Facom-like) at a fraction of the cost of the ones with the Facom name. I know all of the 440 series combination wrenches are now from Taiwan. This company also produces tools for Mac and others."

Greenlee hacksaw made in Italy and Bahco mini hacksaw made in Italy. Think the SK phillips head is French. The brake pliers and adjustment tool is American Wilde.

For KS Tools price reference i look @ http://www.fachhandel-web.de/
measurements would be nice...
but since i don`t buy KS it don`t bother me that they don`t display every
information :D

yes definately Turnus !
159.- is a very good price, in the Hazet promo the price is 197.- + vat.
If i would be you i would buy it :) if i would be me i wouldn`t :) because i have to "scratch money together" (can you say that in english ? :) ?) to buy stuff from Hoffmann.......
btw: thx for the links

Nice locking pliers collection !!! Never heard of "Findor". Looks like the Findor locking pliers are supplied by Wezag.

Just bought an air drill from Hazet:

When I removed it from the box, it felt extremely heavy. Looking at the thing, I'm thinking the body is made out of cast iron, instead of aluminium, hence the weight. Kind of beats the purpose of an airtool, but I will not be using it 8hours a day.

I chose the Hazet one, because it has a left/right switch, keyless chuck, and it's Hazet :bounce:
The fact that it's on sale also helps offcourse :bounce:.

I was asking myself the same thing when I first unpacked it.
I doesn't say "made in germany" anywhere. It does say Hazet, Remscheid both on the box and on the tool itself. I was thinking about emailing Hazet's customer service about it. I'll report back.:)

I think most Hazet air tools are from Taiwan.

Thanks for the "Kremlin" link. Didn´t know about it.

yeah a carolus "rastoflex"

Here is an old version of the carolus website before Gedore bought them
Carlos *click* With more infos about the "Rastoflex" "Conterflex" + "Readyflex" ratchets....

I like this a lot. The larger sizes (3/8, 1/2) look like the ratchet head I saw on a Japanese site (maybe Nepros?) that could attach to a square drive breaker bar or be used as a stubby ratchet.

The smaller 1/4" hex FLEX bit ratchet is something that the others haven't figured out yet. I just got the Wera bit ratchet and have the Topeak ratchet rocket, but a FLEX version would be even better. BTW, the Wera is heavier, thicker, and has a larger head. The Topeak is lighter, smaller, and has a longer handle (which doubles as a magnetic bit holder itself).

photo1 and 2 a dolex 56 "adjuster" vise, its original color was "hammered green" but i repainted it blue to look more recent since I will sell it.
photo 3 you can see where the beam is welded onto the moving jaw
photo 4 and 5 the acesa being cleant
photo 6 why you should trust french employees about taking care of the tools you provide them, this vise has never been greased despite the grease fitting
photo 7 if it's stuck: don't lubricate it, just strike it!!!!

how is the power on that air drill, the only one i ever tried was very easy to stall.

Airtools in general don't have the torque that electric powered tools can give you offcourse.
I've just tried drilling a hole and it seems this one is pretty strong. Almost to strong. I thought I could adjust rpm well with the trigger, but as soon as I touch it, it goes off like a rocket. It doesn't help that my compressor is set to 8 bar i guess...
