Just got a job at a ford dealership. Was wondering if there are any specific tools to look out for, maybe special tools, or just ones that are used a lot on fords but not other makes, etc. Like how long ball hex sockets are basically needed for working on newer german cars, but are otherwise useless. That kind of thing. Garage sale season is starting and it would be cool to know what to look for!

my work has difference techs in position... there is group that do diesel, other do a transmission, and other techs as line technicians... i am one of heavy line technician but if slow, i am do a line technician...

you can do mostly basic hand tools but buy the tool if you has borrow a tool often!!!! some of techs at my work do borrow mine a lot!

How many techs are at your dealership?

I know the feeling, I am actually very good about doing this

At one of my jobs a lot of underling coworkers were constantly borrowing tools that they should own themselves, or is a job that's over their heads that they should have just given to me in the first place. I eventually got tired of it and started telling everyone that the third time they borrow a tool I get to sign of on half every time they borrow it. It worked excellently :)

Hopefully you can bring some common sense to the group (at least the diesel mechs)

the time they consume for jobs on the new trucks is over twice what I do on my own.

Paid the 400 bucks for the complete set of manuals for my truck and do everything myself now.

my work has like 28 techs, maybe 4 or 5 per shift lube guys(lube guys only work parts times as work from 7 to 1 or 2 then other shift come in at 1 or 2 until closed at 7pm....

6 diesel techs
2 transmission techs but i can do manual transmission repairs if needed.
two front end technicians
four or five heavy line techs but some time they would do or not... but i always do what my work want me to do but sometime i told them to pay the time when it get over the limit on used car if idoit used car manager demand to have it fix...
many general techs but some of them are "specialist"

my work have a about 6 "master" technician. i can be one of master tech but i only work for 3 years at same shop but i had total about 10 years in business... i was almost level 3 technician for chrysler but got laid off as closed down the dealership...

most of techs would just send the repair works to me to do it because i told them either buy a tools to do it OR give it to me!!!!
