If WrenTools is still in business, you might be able to special order them, if you are willing to wait.

I'm employed as a field service tech for a concrete paving company. 60 hour weeks, the travel & motel living, and working outside year round is starting to get old.

Mike and I used to be on pretty good terms. Im not really sure what happened, But he doesnt respond to my emails anymore and I called and left a few messages as well. At this point I have pretty much given up on him. I hate to say that, because I appreciated doing business with him before (he even sent me my first shipment free to be sure I liked the tools before I paid!). If he gets his site back up and running or becomes active on here again Im sure he will get some more of my business, but Im not going to keep beating down his door to give him my money if he doesnt want it.

If anyone is interested, "TheToolChest.ca" has in stock various metric 3/8" and 1/2" drive (shallow and deep), metric socket sets. These sets can be ordered in either satin or mirror chrome finish. Here is the link to those Toptul socket sets:http://www.thetoolchest.ca/categories/Ratchets%2C-Sockets-%26-Extensions/Sockets/Metric-Socket-Sets/. The store does not currently stock SAE satin chrome socket sets (shallow or deep).

I ordered from "TheToolChest.ca" last year. The company has good telephone customer service and ship out products from their warehouse within 1 to 2 days. I received my wrench set in about 1 week via their $10 flat rate shipping to the U.S. and within Canada.

Hermit,

Which Toptul reseller website are you referring to?

If it is Wren Hand Tools, his website was a mess. Like you mentioned, the current pricing information was inaccessable.

I just tried to access the Wren Hand Tools website. It is currently offline. Supposedly, it is under construction.

I got a order from Mike about a month ago. If you call him he can take care of you. Took him a week or two. No rush for me. His prices are VERY good and the toptul quality is as good as anything

mikebramel,

Do you know if Mike Wren recently received a large, new order from Toptul?

Is the VDE insulated screwdriver set a newly stocked item for Mike?

Thanks,

Dave

seriously considering getting a set of combination wrenches from Toptul, trying hard to find Unior combination wrenches for the past 2 weeks to no avail, i saw some polished chrome box end wrenches from a hardware store in a mall & i was impressed with the quality & finish of Toptul, i hope they have the American version, do they also make thin profile combination wrenches?

Wren hand tools was the distributor before, but I think they've since dropped off as a reseller. Could try to contact them, I think Mike was the point of contact before. Don't know of anyone else distributing for Toptul though.

Their I-beam combo wrenches look nice, I remember wanting a long pattern of those but they weren't available at the time. Might look into those again.

There was a guy posting here on GJ who was also selling on ebay.

But after seeing his posts here he didn't appear to me to be a very pleasant character. I've purchased Toptul tools before, but after seeing his comments I personally wouldn't purchase from him.

EDIT- here's a thread showing what I mean:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265285

On a side note - Toptul ratchets and sockets don't seem interesting enough to warrant the hassle buying them. They have some interesting wrenches, but many of their tools appear similar to other good-quality Taiwanese tools.

I personally probably won't be buying any more Toptul because they aren't that special and they have really limited availability and support in the U.S.

here in Croatia toptul is best thing you can get for that money..we have no gearwrench,kd,craftsman and other "decent" low budget tools. you can get the toptul or some chinese made POS..and good thing is i can get toptul easily, since there is a mom and pop store down the street who sells them. but buddy in US having a hard time to getting a toptul.

Yes, I agree with that statement. He's honest, easy to deal with and ships lightning fast. Prices ar very fair too. What could be better? Oh, and I've been quite favorably impressed with Toptul's wares. Have not seen anything better for the price. My Toptul collection will continue to grow.

I have ordered from Schmidt too. And I will agree with the others that he charges fair prices and ships very quickly.
And I love all the Toptul stuff I have received I don't think you can buy better tools for the money.
And I really like the satin finish, so much nicer than chrome in my opinion.

Agree that the Satin finish is superior to their Chrome. Just got a small box of stuff from Schmidt last week and was very happy with products and Service. Will be sending him another small order this week. It's not like I really need more tools but it sure is fun opening the box.

Still the best value for money tools you can buy period! And found a guy in WA with $400,000 worth unsold who has offered me 40-60% off the already low prices as mining has gone into recession and his business slowed to a crawl. Sent me a catalogue and there is stuff in there I never imagined

Is Wren the guy who is selling at a discount? Who is this person in WA? Can you share the contact? I wouldn't mind getting a few general sets of stuff at those prices.

Edit: sorry I bet you're talking Western Australia rather than Washington State :)

Hello Guys,

I am also interested in the brand TOPTUL...I am planing to buy socktes, but I am not sure, because of the missing knurle. (Honestly Toptul sockets don't look very modern and attractive)

I can't imagine, why Toptul add any knurle on their standard sockets? Even cheapest china-socket sets have them. Anyway, quality brands.

Recently I bought a 1/2" socket set from SENECA (also "quality" taiwan brand)

But I don't have use them as yet.

The surface is also very nice and accurate.

Now I am unsure, if I should keep it or sell it and buy TOPTUL sockets??

What do you guys suggest?

Now I give TOPTUL a try and I am very glad, that I have the possibility, to return all the tools (sockets and wrenches).

For me TOPTUL is the badest experience ever. Even the cheapest tools ever, are better than TOPTUL.

But take a look by yourself:

This was the result of my car repair:mad:

Socket: I slip over the screw head.
Wrench: Nothing special, regular car repair...even the chrom surface is damaged (there is another part of surface damage, but it's very hard to take pic)

IMPORTANT: NO IMPACT USAGE!!!

The surface of the TOPTUL tolls look very nice and optical they also look solid, but already on regular usage the tools may fail...

Guess it's about time I review some of my Toptul stuff to add some more meaning to these pictures.

I'll start with the several flex-head ratchets I own tonite (Kicking off with the CJHM series.) I have two of these bad boys in the 1/4in and 3/8in variants. My initial impressions were quite positive, the satin chrome was superb however near the recessed area surrounding the selector switch the metal seemed a bit rough towards the corners. The roughness does not affect the functionality of the ratchet or reverse lever so I didn't look twice. The grips contour nicely to my hands, and feel much like Toptul's screwdriver grips in terms of material. The grips are nicely rounded with a sharp looking Toptul logo embedded in plastic projecting a cool two tone color combo with Toptul's signature colors. The grips also do not have any finger indentations as well which I'd say is a pro (my hands are smaller than the norm so finding a comfortable grip is not always easy.) The flex joints on both drives are very stable and do not flop around what so ever. Though between the two drives there is a noticeable difference between the pin holding the head to the ratchet handle. The 1/4in drive has a torx screw so you can adjust the stiffness of the joint while the 3/8in drive has a traditional non-threaded pin. I kind of wished that both of the ratchets had this torx screw, just in case if the flex head became sloppy after extended periods of time so it could be adjusted to my likeing. For now though both are still just as sound as day one.

The ratcheting mechanism is incredible. The CJHM series seem to be the bread and butter of Toptul's ratchet lineup, and certainly blow some of my other fine/high tooth count ratchets out of the tool chest! Right out of the package, my 3/8in drive was noticeably smoother than my GF80! And much to my surprise, when I Moly coated my Toptul ratchet and lubed it up with chain and sprocket grease the margin between the Love stained GF80 and CJHM was even greater! These ratchets are without doubt the smoothest and most crisp ratchets I have used or owned.

Ok time to dissect these guys are see what makes them tick...............

As you can see from the photos above, the CJHM ratchets use dual independent pawls much some of the other high quality ratchets out there. Each pawl has five points of contact with the ratchet's teeth. The GF80 mentioned before has 7 teeth on each pawl. Its hard to say what affect if any would result between the two different ratchets, as Snap-On's 80 tooth count is greater than the 72 count Toptul. Naturally I'd assume that the smaller teeth on the dual 80 would probably need more points of contact than a lower tooth count for mechanical integrity.

Another feature I'd like to mention is the quick release. The quick release button is nice and wide roughly the size of a button found on a polo shirt. The button also does not protrude out of the ratchet head as far as most ratchets I own as well. It's a nice feature that has helped me get these ratchets in odd places when clearance is at a minimum. The drive head also fits all the various sockets I have nicely as well. The sockets are firmly held with no play or wobble when attached to the ratchet, and still freely falls off when the quick release is used. Another pleasant feature is the cover plate. Unlike other ratchets I've used, the cover plates on the CJHM series tend seal out foreign particles and contaminates very well. In my initial lubing of the ratchet, I notices that seepage was minute leaking only slightly from the selector switch.

Overall I was really impressed with the CJHM series from Toptul. There were a very tiny finite areas I would like to see changed (or improved) like the flex joint pin stated earlier, but any which way the ratchets are up there in terms of quality and performance with the notorious tool brands.

Traditionally, ratchet handle is made with one pawl, is quite unique to have two of them on one ratchet.
For fine teeth count ratchet they certainly come with splendid ratcheting sound when your reverse and backwards, our newest 90Teeth ratchet is much better at torque performance and make the sensation sound.
