I just got the Torque App just for the hell of it and my new Bluetooth OBD2 adapter showed up in the mail today. This is the one I got.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005NLQAHS/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I did hook up and read real time info and even pulled/cleared a code on my 99 Grand Am, the whole time a message was on the real time screen,

"Faulty obd adapter".

And under adapter settings I had 103 errors and 8 faults.

My question is does anyone else run this combo or have similar issues? I don't want to pay $100 plus for a good adapter and if all the cheap Chinese knockoffs are like this than I don't want to return it.

This was just a toy to me and wanted to check it out. At $100-150 I rather get a real scanner. I just thought it was a cool little thing for my smartphone.

I've got a different "dongle", that I use everyday. So far no problems and pretty handy. Instead of dealing with a scanner , which is usually being used or having to get a tech out to the veh. I can go to the veh, read the code, put it on the work order and done. Great timesaver. Torque is a pretty good program also, very happy with it. I picked mine up at deal extreme a couple of years ago, was about twice the price then.

What version Torque do you have? I'm using version 1.5.44 and have no problems whatsoever.

I've got exactly the same set up and have had no problems pulling, reading, clearing codes on toyota, nissan and mercedes. If that helps. Mybe your adapter is faulty, try it on an asian vehicle and see if you get the same message.

I just looked and I got 1.6.44 or 1.6.14 (I forgot and I powered down tonight already).

It is 1.6.14.

Sorry, keep forgetting to multi-quote.

I will try it on a 2003 Honda tomorrow at work.

Just to update anyone interested in this, Some complain that they can't hook up to Ford with the cheap Chinese adapters.

I used it on a 2005 Ford E350 and a 2011 E350. I tried to hook up to a Honda but the oil changer wouldn't let me check it out on his car for some reason.

Also tried GMC G3500, both 04 and 08.

Still have faulty adapter message, even enabled debugging and still the same.

I love it... It's not my "go to" device for scanning DLCs, but I use it a lot after big jobs because it's wireless. After an engine rebuild and install, I set up my tablet on my service cart and can easily see the live data and gauges while bleeding coolant, checking for leaks, playing with the throttle, etc.

Got an adaptor which seems to connect to the free version but claims it can't find a protocol for the bus. Not sure I want to spend the $ only to find out it my dodge is one of the unsupported Chrysler products he mentions in the description.

I have used the exact same one as lametec for a couple of years. It has worked on everything I've plugged it into. I don't even have torque pro, just the free version.

I bought one from ebay for under 10 bucks and it works flawlessly and it works with ALL Protocols.

The cheap Chinese ones aren't true elm 327 if that makes sense. They are a variation of the original somewhat and is the reason they don't always work on some vehicles. Manufacturing quality is another reason why some people have problems.

that being said most people get along with the sqaure box style 20 dollar ones just fine and most pids are out there now. The torque forum is a great resource and the gentleman that dev'd the app stays on top of stuff pretty good.

try another dongle or if you have a HTC or samsung phone go into settings and tick the fix box for faster communication.
