I'm mainly in that 1-ton truck category. Having the floor nearby provides an easy reaction surface for torquing the pinion nut.

So the culmination thus far -

Amazon warehouse deals came through with the breaker bar and torque wrench combo for 350! They also had some AWD tekton 3/4 metric sockets, and I got a 4" extension.

So I assume the new extension and the warehouse deals sockets will be fine. If the wrench is damaged in a way not deemed usable, I'll be hunting for that again.

Thanks all for your input.
Definitely check out the wrench, and atleast check it against your ½". AWD can be wildly hit or miss. Maybe someone bought it to use once and then returned it.

Don't forget the pics.

^ My plan was to either rig it up feeding into my 300ft/lb max techangle, or try the snap on truck tester. IDK how high that goes.

My stuff arrived today. Not sure how the torque wrench became Amazon Warehouse Deals, it was perfect. Outer sleeve on the box good, everything inside pristine without so much as smudges on the chrome finish. Tekton sockets (aslo AWD) came in a beat box, but where otherwise cherry.

This 41" long torque wrench is comical in size, I can't wait to torque something with it. Hell a 50mm socket is the size of an apple. LOL

Fwiw, high torque specs usually have a tolerance or range rather than an exact number.

Generally speaking, you just need to get it close.

Having used digital torque wrenches which record data, one would be amazed at how much user input effects the torque applied.

Not sure how that would be amazing. It's a pretty obvious concept to me. Ft-lbs is literally a measure of effort.

Until you realize how hard it is to reach a given effort in a repeatable manner.
Yeah it's difficult but I don't find it amazing.

But it's also why the 600+ ones are 5+ feet long. At 5 feet you only need 90-100 pounds of pressure to reach the 450-500 of a 33mm lug nut.
