I was wondering......

What applications does one find these types of fasteners on?

I have a small 4x4 shop and haven't run across any as of yet, but the newest vehicle I have had in my shop was the last year of the jeep wrangler tj (2007 IIRC) Most of the stuff I spin is still mainly SAE

I have a Napa gift card and was wondering if cashing it on these tools would be worth it given what I run across. I haven't run across to many folks who will spend 40k on a new truck and pound and trash it on the rocks

I helped a friend install a scope on his Barrett .50 cal rifle and all the screws were IP25 torx plus.

I come across them alot on enclosed trailers, been more often on other things as time marchs forth. The smooth head makes it usefull in other areas too. I have a set in SAE & Metric. So needless to say they are worth having.

It seems quite a few headlights are put together with torx, my wife's dyson vac, my rifles bottom metal are torx plus 35's.......chevy seat belts (and I think door locks!), are a special tool specifically for chevy.....I happen to have screwed up and bought two over the years, but I keep breaking those darn things!!! That blue lock-tight is tough!

Just had to rebuild part of my deck, and all the screws were torx 25's, talk about awesome. Not a single screw slipped....now THAT'S a change....phillips is defiantly better than standard flat bladed, but there are better options out there.

Just remembered, chevy steering wheels are put together with e-torx fasteners...

Just broke three t-15 Snappy sockets and hand driver on a friends .223. What a pain!
We have this one local gun shop that thinks they have to red-lock-tight every ring/base screw. Thought about calling 'em up and chewing some ****!

Don't get me started on those damn things! Rear wheel bearings on 95-02 Sunfire/Cavaliers you can usually get 3 of the 4 before you round the sholders off one of them if your lucky enough not to break your socket.....Snappy guy told me he replaces a few of them, and those are $230 a set......

Chevy seatbelts, door strikers, and bellhousings--I believe these all use the same size bit.

Additionally ford bed mounting bolts-the ones that go down thru the top.

These are all torx plus.

I've been seeing a lot of tamperproof torx on maf sensors.
And bathroom stalls... Glad I'm not the only one that noticed that.

German cars... and most restroom stalls, Tamperproof Torx. It's hard not to look at the fasteners when you love tools.

Ha ha that is totally how I am. I go around and see if I can identify every fastener I run into and whether or not I have the tools to take it apart.

As to the OPs question: I have yet to run into any torx plus myself, but a few tamperproof here and there.

One tip regarding torx plus, if a standard torx is kinda sloppy it is probably torx plus, these bits fit like a glove in their appropriate fasteners.

my wife's vw has torx plus all over the place. They actually have torx, torx plus and xzn/spline.

Security torx are used in allot of electronic applications. There is security torx plus, but they are not very common yet.

No such thing as metric or SAE Torx, just Torx. Tamperproof Torx: seat belt mounting brackets, plastic engine bay shrouds (Euro vehicles and the Mrs. Chrysler Pacifica with the 3.5L V-6),

Yea I was wondering metric/standard torx??? Every torx socket or screwdriver I have is stamped T-something, for instance T-20, T-55 etc

Yup, T15 is T15, T27 is T27, etc. You may not use it much yet, but you will as the year of manufacture of the vehicles you see marches on. I'd get some, just to have immediately available.

Are you thinking of Torx sockets, or hand-driven Torx drivers?

I have sets of torx sockets and some screwdrivers that I use on occasion

Some aftermarket parts for jeep upgardes have them. OEM that comes to mind is jeep windshield hinges, jeep roll bars and some gm brakes.

What I'm wondering about is the tamper proof torx and the torx plus fasteners. Those two I haven't run across as of yet

Eeks, mis-read your post. Tamper-proof Torx is on seat-belt brackets. I haven't come across Torx-Plus yet, but I bought an OTC 3/8 bit set just in case, and it was something like $35, so if it saves me from running to a tool store in the middle of a project only once, it'll be worth it.

I've seen them at the playground while there with my kids and I remember I bought my first set about 10 years ago cause I needed them while swapping out a steering column on a foxbody mustang.

Tamper proof torx have the little nib of steel in the centre of the fastener. All you need to do is drill a hole in the end of your torx bit. Or better still, buy them with the hole already drilled.
