If not aware of them be aware that they are only for marking. They are relatively soft and will not make a center punch mark. The proper use is to align the parts and then give the punch a light tap, enough to mark the piece. You then use a center punch to put a divot in the part to capture the drill point.

Reading around the internet you will find a lot of people complaining about the 'poor quality' of their transfer punches and the truth is they are hitting them to hard. So be forewarned.

Also know that they come in drill sizes including letter and number sizes + metric.

I've had generic imports for years, work fine. The key, even with made in USA ones, is a light tap, then hit the divot with a std center punch. Now just wait till you discover transfer screws..........

edit to add Larry must type faster than me, but who doesn't.
