Two two garage with slanted garage floor

Hey guys,

Quick question. I recently purchased a townhouse with an attached garage. The garage is in the basement of the house and slightly below grade, so the garage floor is slightly slanted towards the main door where there is a drainage grate outside the door.

My question, I am currently in the process of painting the garage and love the look of the two tone garage. However as the floor is slanted, the line which divides the two colors of paint would not be parallel to both the garage floor and the garage ceiling. If I go this route is it better to have the dividing line parallel to the floor? Or the ceiling? Should I split the difference? Or abandon the idea and just paint it one color.

Thanks in advance!

Make it level, don't worry about the floor or the ceiling, just make it wide enough that it grabs the eye and keeps you away from the sloped floor.

I suppose if you wanted to go hyper modern, you could do a diminishing stripe. Snap a line measured from the floor for the bottom of the strip, and another measured form the ceiling for the top. It would make your garage look significantly "deeper"

Not much uncovered wall where it meets the floor in most garages, do it level, you will never be able to see that one end is a little different once you're moved into it.

Welcome to the forum!

I agree......make it level. For a nice accent, you might want to look into vinyl tape to cover the line where the two colors meet. I did my 30 x 38 garage yesterday with tape and it looks great. Took me less than two hours do do everything. Using tape, you also do not need to be so careful about the dividing line since the tape will cover it. Do a search on this forum for vinyl tape threads which will show you some photos along with some suggestions on how to do it.

That sounds like a cool idea.

I have a slope of around 2-3" in my garage, and I did a level stripe and it looks great.
