i have been lurking around here a while looking at everyone's awsome builds, garage, shops, shed etc. We purchased a 2 acre lot and finally built our house and moved in last year. our plan is to build a 30x50ish work shop/rv/boat shed in the back eventually, but until then i need the yard tools and other misc items out of the garage.
we decided to build a small shed about 8x10 for the riding mower and other items. we both work with Auto cad so we drew up our plans (sort of) finally got started. we(I) am doing it mostly by myself with a little help from the wife and my dad, mostly because i am cheap and dont like paying other people for what i can do. We have spaced the build out over a month or more to space out the costs. The plan grew to 10x12 with plans to minimize waste material and so far have done good. we purchased the floor/deck material one weekend and built it the next. then we picked up the wall framing material and i got those up on a day off work. made another run to the store for the roof framing, sheeting, and shingle materials. we have most of those up less the felt paper and shingles.
we are slowing getting a coat of paint on the siding to get it up this week and hopefully finish the roof this weekend.
FLOOR: for the floor we placed 4" thick concrete blocks about 2-3ft spacing (15 in total) on the ground and leveled them the deck is framed with 2x4x10 treated on 12" centers and i sistered the ones right inside the door where my mower will park. its topped with 3/4" treated plywood that is glued and screwed down.
WALLS: walls are framed 2x4 on 24" center. we will have a 24"x24" window on one side and a door that is 5'6" wide by 6' tall. siding is masonite 4x8 sheets
Roof: I built trusses to span the 12ft width from 2x4 on 24" and 7/16 OSB decking. got basic 3 tab shingles to cover it with.
that will leave me with doors and finish out the shelfing inside and a light source.
my plan is to mount a small solar panel to charge a 12v battery and run RV style lights or some other 12v LED lights inside with a remote switch i can turn on on my way to the shed (its in the back of the property about 300ft from the house).
I will post more pics as i go and finish up.
Its been fun but a lot of work with my limited framing and construction background and definitely will stick to my day job.
