Something I wasn't aware of before I bought my 44" blue chest, if you do a pre-sale (buy in store if they have no stock) there is a specific SKU that is used. If they have stock, the SKU maybe different. Assume similar for chests with several SKUs.

Regarding latches.... Glad my 44 doesn't have them.

$999 is the best price the 72" has been in forever. If you have the space, I recommend the 72 bottom over the 56" because of the right section with smaller drawers. I just recently bought the 72" bottom and 56" top in green with the 15% off branded items sale at the end of June. It worked out to $20 more on the bottom but $60 less than the best sale on the top so I saved $40 total over the single piece coupons at the time.

As far as the drawer detents/slide locks, I'm not sure why so many people dislike or remove them. While they aren't the tilting latch function that is the best IMHO, they work just fine. I have no issues with using them or having drawers slide open when the box is slightly tilted.

I hope this is allowed, didnt see anything in the classified rules.
Anyone in the atlanta area looking for a red 72, I have a lightly used one in our classifieds section for a good bit less than this sale price.

Seriously looking at one of the tool carts. Now you guys have me scared of the latches. I have a couple craftsman top and bottom sets but they are full. Was thinking about put my commonly used stuff in the cart and being able to wheel it out to the driveway if needed. Not sure now.

The latch talk is BS. They work great and I have no issues with them at all. I actually like them and wished my old 44" that I sold had them. I used my 5 drawer just as you are thinking and my driveway is sloped so the latches are perfect. I did the lock bar mod on mine and the latches are even more important to me. Check out the 5 drawer cart mod thread for great ideas on what to do with it. You can see the corner of mine in this picture.

Thanks for the reply. Also very nice set up. I really like the green. I am bouncing between blue and green. All my craftsman boxed are black or red so they are gonna clash no matter what. That green looks sweet though.

Is the sale code something I have missed? I read that all the 20% or 25% codes don’t work on the boxes. Where do I kind the sale code?

He means the coupon codes. The Toolboxes generally only go on sale with specific coupons. Find the item number of the color you want and look it up on hfqpdb.com for the current best coupon. Once or twice a year they have the 15 or 20% coupon that can be used on anything. I just happened to catch that one when I decided to upgrade from my old wrinkle red 44" setup.

Gotcha. Thank you for the info. Was reading through the modification thread and found the database. Found a coupon for $169 for the tool cart. Only blue, black and red. I think it just made the choice for me. Blue it is.

It not BS if you moving your box a fair bit, work in areas with not perfect level standing or in and out of it all day long .
The latches are not so much a problem on smaller width drawers as easier operate and less strained from load but when you got same latch on the wide drawers they easy fail.
Also fail when closing drawers and latch parts spring out across the workshop lol .
Light home gamers not going see so much issues or find it such an annoyance but for others it is.
Something to consider before buying and seeing whether your intended box is available from factory that uses the slides that also have detents .
If using box a lot buy a bag of spare latches as they not expensive but do take months get hold of .

That is correct on the $169 coupon only being for Red, black or blue. Green, yellow, orange or white will cost an extra $20.

Found this on a local Craigslist. They said they would go down to $100. Good deal for the cart?

It's missing bolts in the top left from that picture alone. Hard to tell what else is wrong and it's very used with someone elses stickers all over it. You can get the blue for $169 new, build it correctly and spruce it up as your own. Is the $69 difference worth it to you?

I would take a hair dryer to the stickers and nut and bolt the whole thing but I don't think that's bad at all.

I called a harbor freight today and they have open box tool carts for $100 in 3 different colors! That being said I told them to hold a orange 44 and a 0range cart for me!

Wish mine was the same. I went there this morning to buy the cart but couldn’t pull the trigger. I am telling myself I don’t need it now.

I'd be surprised if they actually have a 44 inch tool box in stock unless it is a display model and they are not usually to open to selling the displays unless its a discountinued unit or they have a replacement model. Usually on the big tool boxes 44 and up you have to pre-purchase.

Thanks

No it was a case by case basis. I got very lucky. It even had a purple sticker that said open box $187. How I got it for $100 was kind of a typo. I just shook my head and tried to give them my cash quick as possible.

I decided yesterday to finally move on the 56" and was trying to decide color and it was between orange and green and my wife finally asked why I wasn't getting one to match my motorcycle.

Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

BLU CRU it is!

Crazy thing was I expected to have to order it but they had the better (64866) version of the box in blue sitting in the back just waiting for me. I picked up the 56" and the matching 30" cart.

Side note: I'm still feeling it from unloading it from my Dodge Ram with just me and the wife yesterday.

You were able to load it and unload it into a pickup truck without equipment? I thought they weighed around 400 hundred pounds empty. I thought I'd have to rent a trailer that I could more easily wheel it on and off of.

Excellent choice, congrats! That's the same setup I have in blue, but I wound up swapping out the 30" cart for a 26" roller cab - realized pretty quickly that I wanted the extra drawers, storage, and working surface of the cabinet vs. the cart. Enjoy your new boxes!

Gotta admit that there was nothing easy about it and I'm usually the person that people get when they need something heavy moved or lifted. I also did use a ramp to slide it down but I'd really recommend a couple strong guys. They loaded it with a forklift.

I would like to have a cabinet but I went with the cart due to the screwdriver storage. That was a must have for me. I already have a red wrinkle cart and have it somewhat organized the way I like so I will probably just transfer everything and then make some modifications.

Be careful guys! I'm a pretty big guy and blew out a bicep tendon last week "helping" to load a 56" base cabinet into a uhaul trailer. The guy running the forklift at HF didn't know how to handle the ramped trailer (got ramped to make it easier to unload) stupid me jumped in and tried to lift one end of the cabinet on to the ramp: snap, and that was it. Surgery this coming Monday. Still had to help the guy put it in the trailer even after the injury. Following my unstructions, he dropped one end on the ramp and we pushed it up. I then drove directly to the ER with trailer in tow. My fault, but still a frustrating experience. Really need to stop being the hero when it comes time to move things:bitchslap

I had zero issues using the Uhaul ramped trailer to handle my 72" bottom and put the 56" top in the bed of my truck. I cut the pallet apart from underneath the 72" on the trailer when I got home and wheeled it into place. My 14 year old daughter and I slid the 56" top out of the bed of the truck on to my mechanics cart using a piece of cardboard to protect the lid and then over onto the 72" base. Work smarter, not harder. The forklift operators at Harbor Freight where pretty quick getting both pieces loaded. They used chain around the whole thing to lift them instead of trying to fight the pallets the wrong way.

My wife and I (me with one arm) unloaded it no problem. The forklift driver at HF was clueless. Unfortunately, I think he was the manager or at least the stock room manager.

100% agree with work smarter not harder:)

The key to loading or unloading these boxes, is to remove all of the drawers first to make the box as light as possible! My son and I unloaded both of my HF 56” boxes that way, and it wasn’t bad at all. Removed the drawers, then my Son on one side, and I on the other, lowered one end of the box to the ground. Then the same with the other end. And this being lowered from my ‘01 Tacoma 4WD.

Did the same procedure in reverse when we returned one of my 56’s for the matching better number box.

Edit: It’s best to remove the carton and pallet from the box at the store. Removing the box from the pallet while in the bed of the truck is a real PITA! Plus, this way you can inspect for damage before leaving the store.
