Thanks, that has been one of the things in favor of a Husky or Milwaukee box from HD, the store is less than 5 miles from home, so a quick trip to U-haul for a trailer and in my shop in about an hour. HF is 65 miles, so 130 miles round trip with a trailer. If I can load / unload directly into the truck that removes the biggest hurdle of dealing with a trailer.

These will be for my mini-mill and lathe so I'll most likely go with a 44" and maybe a 26" so a little bit lighter. The 44" is around 300lbs, and not too worried about the 26" which is under 200lbs.

I was also wondering if the drawers are easy to remove and that sounds like it is an option. I'm guessing the drawers have to be at least 1/3-1/2 of the weight making it a much more manageable load.

Thanks and lotus guy, that sounds really painful, good luck with the surgery.

Thanks! Yes, the drawers are easy to remove. A plastic latch on each slider. One side goes up the other down and the drawers come out. 71goldss is absolutely right that the way to move these is to pull all the drawers. I did that with my 72" from Napa last year, and should have done the same this time.

Before purchasing my two 56’s, I had two 44’s and one end cabinet that I attached in between the 44’s. I gave those to my son when I bought the 56’s. When I purchased my second 44, I unloaded it by myself with the drawers out. In fact, every box I’ve ever moved has been with the drawers out, help or no help! I replace the drawers back into the box once in the truck because of lack of space in my Tacoma, but no big deal. A lot of removing and replacing, but beats a trip to the ER!

The drawers remove easily by lifting the plastic tab on one slide, and lowering the plastic tab on the other slide while pulling on the drawer. When you pull the drawers open all the way out, you’ll see the plastic tabs.

Be careful guys! I'm a pretty big guy and blew out a bicep tendon last week "helping" to load a 56" base cabinet into a uhaul trailer. The guy running the forklift at HF didn't know how to handle the ramped trailer (got ramped to make it easier to unload) stupid me jumped in and tried to lift one end of the cabinet on to the ramp: snap, and that was it. Surgery this coming Monday. Still had to help the guy put it in the trailer even after the injury. Following my unstructions, he dropped one end on the ramp and we pushed it up. I then drove directly to the ER with trailer in tow. My fault, but still a frustrating experience. Really need to stop being the hero when it comes time to move things:bitchslap

I feel your pain. My distal biceps tendon exploded while deadlifting in October. I still haven't got my full strength or size back 10 months later. And my bicep is deformed from the surgery...but mine was a really bad injury.

Great, the Husky boxes aren't bad, but the HF US General Boxes seem better for not much more money. Getting them home has been my biggest concern.

Just push it on and off the trailer. Use a jack and plywood to match level. Never had to lift it vertically by hand.

Seriously looking at one of the tool carts. Now you guys have me scared of the latches. I have a couple craftsman top and bottom sets but they are full. Was thinking about put my commonly used stuff in the cart and being able to wheel it out to the driveway if needed. Not sure now.

The latches aren’t an issue at all on the cart. Bigger boxes one may be bothered more since you have to be at one end of drawer to unlatch them

The five drawer cart is excellent. Holds way more than you’d think and carries the weight very well. You can’t beat the value for under $200.

The best thing I did when transporting new boxes home was to drive down the road to Home Depot and rent a truck with a ramp for $29:

You get 75 minutes of use time, and I was able to drive to Harbor Freight, have them load the box on the truck, drive home, unpack the box inside the truck, and roll it directly into my garage. I've done this with two boxes and I can hear my back thanking me. No lifting whatsoever, and worth WAY more than the $29 I paid.

Yeh, pre planning transportation and making good choice on size of boxes you want in advance is key .
If not wanting larger boxes use the 44" with side hangon or the 56" with side hangon .
Moving the 3 bay boxes is a pain for lot of people so having box built up in 2 or 3 units make transporting/moving far simpler .
Professionally I use 3 2 bay matco boxes, had one and far easier cheaper add a second and more space too and that habit grew and got hangon end drawers to tie 2 together, far easier move when need and saved lot of money over 3 bay boxes and have more storage from spending less .
Having spent years picking up used boxes to use and resell in time I got fond memories of hassle you can get with 25 to 30" deep 3 bays and how easier a 2 bay is to move and transport ...

How much is it if you go over the 75 min? Just curious

The local HD doesn't rent trucks. I survived the past 4 years without a truck, in large part due to Uhaul. For local stuff they are great.
Miles add up though with the pickups / vans at $0.69 / mile and the small-med box trucks $0.89 / mile, plus gas in a not too fuel efficient vehicle, those box trucks only get around 10-14mpg.

My nearest HF is 130 miles round trip so renting a box truck adds nearly $200 by the time you add up the rental, mileage and gas. On a $449 box, that is a chunk of money.

I still rent a Uhaul pickup from time to time for big dump runs, $20 / day +$10 for the "insurance" so I don't have to worry about dings and dents.

With mileage it comes out to around $35 for the day, I don't have to pull the shell off my truck, and no worry about tires, or dinging up my truck, cheap peace of mind.

In the past, I've rented a pickup from Enterprise and talked the agent into unlimited miles - cheaper than U-Haul by far.

Uhaul does that as well, at least with the pickups and vans, not sure about the box trucks. You can do the one day for $19.99 + miles, or a higher daily rate with unlimited miles. If you are driving far enough the unlimited miles pays off.

When I bought my lathe I was going to rent an Enterprise truck, but they were giving me the run around, kept trying to get me into a mini-van, just couldn't get it into their heads that I needed an open bed to load / unload and haul a 900lb lathe.

I was under a time limit and was just going to **** up the mileage costs at Uhaul. Talking with the guys they told me about the unlimited miles option which was actually a little cheaper than Enterprise. Enterprise has nicer crew cab trucks though.

Thanks to you pointing out the coupon I now have brand new blue 44" and 26" toolboxes.

The 26" also has a coupon right now, on sale for $299 instead of $319. Not as good a deal as the 44", but still a sale and I wanted one of each. Saved me $90 between the two.

A bit of a chore, but I was able to unload them from the pickup by myself. I wouldn't want to try that with a 56" or 72". My little lathe and mill look quite happy on their new homes.

They have a $279 coupon on the 26 if you you're close enough to the store that saving another $20 is worth the trip.

Weird coupon, the regular price is $319 not $299. $299 was the sale price, so this would have to add on to a coupon / sale price which they usually won't allow. makes me wonder of it is a misprint based on pre-tariff pricing.

I'd spend more on gas than I'd save with the coupon, but worth a shot if I'm down that way before 9/9. Thanks

I've seen several of their coupons priced this way. The easy way to confirm they work is to just type in the coupon code number online and see if their website takes it. So far I have not had a problem with this.
