My first tool for my garage

Why not organise a courier to collect mate?
CanUK, goodluck with your beta stack on eBay. Nice boxes for someone there.
We've added a lot of items to our clearance section recently at rock bottom prices...

Cheers,

Apologies for taking this thread hostage...but I'm after some UK tool advice!
I have a couple of tools...and trying to service the wifes car proved that I need some more!
I can't afford Facom/Snap On, unless I'm looking in the wrong places for them!
What's everyones thoughts on Clarke Pro or Halfords Pro/Advanced Pro?
I'm thinking about these sets...:

Should I just look for 2nd hand SnapOn etc on ebay instead?

The best advice is to have patience and keep a keen eye on eBay.
The tools in your first two links look cheapy and I would avoid. They look good value at first, but you will end up replacing them and will cost more in the long run.
Halfords are fine for sockets and ratchet spanners.
Screwdrivers and pliers are not areas to scimp on. The difference between good ones and cheap ones is night and day.
As far as I am aware, the best value screwdrivers are the Stanley Fatmax ones, which are rebranded bost and made in france.

You can pick up full sets on eBay for very little money.
For allen keys, go Bondhus, no question about it.
For pliers keep an eye out on eBay auctions. If they say Germany on them, the chances are they are excellent. Knipex always go for high prices, but there are loads of less known brands and rebranded German pliers that go for nothing.
Since Snap On prices are inflated soo high here, even the used prices tend to be bad value. The only items I have picked up were mislabeled and hence went cheap.

Sound advice, I couldn't have said it better myself.
I would try to build a top tier brand core (socket set, spanner set, screwdriver set etc. - your bread and butter for most jobs) and then consolidate with lesser brands, the odd second hand, ebay bargains, online promotions etc.
Teng, Sealey and Halfords professional in particular are good second tier brands. I would stay away from Clarke, Silverline and the like, it's generally cheap ****.
Also, pay attention to this thread. Our peeps have a keen eye for bargains.
OK who bought 3? !

How did you work out it was him, I though ebay hid buyers identities until you can see the feedback?
Hello, my name is N.I. and I am a tool addict. I came here seeking sanctuary, instead there seems to be a witch hunt going on.
We absolutely deny all responsibility of buying a few pairs of Knipex pliers wrenchs.
We did not do it. It wasn't us. For you see it was the pet Cobras we keep. Our Precious. They made us. Lonely they said said they said they were. Buy them they said. We said no.
They took us by the throat. Yes our poor throat. They made us buy them. Bite they said. Buy them or we'll bite! We had to buy them. They made us!
If you want someone to blame, blame yourselves. How dare you blame us. Two years ago we was's a normal Human Being. And then we found it. Yes we were stumbling along in the dark with cheap crappy tools and then found ...... this forum. Our life changed at that very moment. It took control. You told us to buy the Cobras!

On the topic of selling, and I find it mildly amusing that CanUK was the one to bring it up considering he is probably the biggest resellers of stuff off this thread. The only difference is that not all of us list everything as private listings(although to be fair with him, he does have a thriving business selling *** toys and gimp outfits, and obviously needs to protect his customers).

That was quite a while back, and though I was curious about who it might be I didn't bother trying to work it out until yesterday. I didn't publicly out your GJ ID either, so hopefully no hard feelings.
