I really like my long Toptul spanners and it's a very good price but I've not heard much feedback about their impact sockets.

£52.74 Facom NS.J9 = 9 sockets from 13-24mm
I really like my Facom tools (including 8 of their 3/4" impact sockets) so I was tempted by this set but the cost of adding 10, 11, 12 & 15mm sockets puts me off (an extra £38.24).

£68.84 (inc. delivery and import fees from USA) Williams MS-4-10HRC = 10 sockets from 10-19mm
I got the 3/8" version of this set 6 years ago and they've performed very well so this was my 2nd place choice.

£95.00 Snap On 310IMMYA = 10 sockets from 10-19mm
The same sockets out of the same factory as the Williams? Price direct from Snap On is £137.40 btw.

£59.18 Koken 14400M/10 = 10 sockets from 10-19 mm
I've heard a lot of good stuff about the fit of their impacts and I really like the 22mm Koken I got for £0.99 off eBay years ago so I've decided to go for this set. UK Tools need £75 minimum for free postage so I've added the 21 & 24mm sockets to my order making a total of £77.93. I'll keep my current 20 & 23mm AST sockets as they're still new and sell the rest. My 24mm is a good used Snap On so that'll probably sell for more than the new Koken one! :lol:

Ok, now a few extra notes:
1) I don't think you'd go wrong with any of the above sets or even the cheaper options I'll list in a moment. They're all good buys and a lot is down to personal preferences and priorities.
2) This is a roundup of what's available September 2020. In a few months, there may be different deals altogether. My advice is be flexible. I'm quite happy buying different tools from different brands and that opens up a world of savings.
3) This is not a comprehensive list of all brands. I've picked the main ones but there's a number of brands like Beta, Hazet and Stahlwille where the only prices I could find made Snap On look really cheap!
4) Sunex, Grey Pneumatic, Tekton are all well recommended but I couldn't find cheap deals on them here. Six years ago, I got a good deal on a Tekton 3/8" deep set delivered from USA but couldn't find the same deals this time. When Koken is cheaper than Tekton, buy Koken!
5) Genius is another GJ favourite and it is available here! The TF-016 set is 15 sockets from 10-24mm and is only £29.99
6) I have quite a bit of Sealey stuff and really like a lot of their tools but I detested the cheap 3/8" impact socket set I got from them. It seems they do better impact sockets as well. If my budget was really tight I'd seriously consider this AK5616M set for £32.95.
7) I really hate the finish of the 1/2"Draper impacts I've got. It's like a powdery gray instead of smooth black. They've done ok apart from that. If money is really tight then this is the cheapest set I think is worth looking at: Draper 83092 = 10 sockets from 10-27mm. It misses out 11, 16 & 18mm sockets but is only £14.99 at Toolstation just now and they don't have the nasty finish that mine do.
8) Teng make good tools too but I don't like their finish and feel. That's personal though and you may love them. More of a problem is their 9121 impact set misses out the 15, 16 & 18mm sizes and I can only find one place that sells the 18mm so that puts me off. I don't want to find I can't replace a socket if I lost one. I'd rather buy Sealey than Teng personally.
9) Laser do a lot of cheap and cheerful stuff. I have a set of their 3/8" stubby impacts and I haven't really used them enough to say much about them but they look ok. If you can't find the Draper set for £15 then look about and you might find a Laser set for similar money.
10) I have a few Trident tools and they seem good. Personally, I'd choose this £21.95 Trident T930000 = 10 sockets from 13-24mm set over the Draper.

Thank you for sharing and the insight very useful. I found exactly the same when purchasing my impact sockets not long ago. I'm a huge fan of German quality however Snapon ebay UK prices were so cheap I ended up buying Snapon. I dont regret it and am slowly learning to mix up the brands to save the impact on my wallet :)

I bought a set of these a while back. Not used them a great deal as I tend to use my Gedore screwdrivers which are in my main toolbox.

These Felo screwdrivers have a cushion feel to them so not hard handled. I also bought the slotted set from the same seller so have quite a large set for pretty cheap money compared to other brands. I've also recently taken a liking to the Stahwille DRALL screwdrivers which I believe are made by Witte. Seen some post quality control issues but I've not seen any issues on the ones I've purchased.

Quite a lot of choice and bargains to be had of late and can be rather addictive.

Wondering if it's worth £60 for infrequent home use or if it's useless? I've watched a few youtube vids and it looks to have about 250Nm which should take most car wheels off easily enough. I need to replace a wheel bearing/hub on my car soon so have a job coming up where it could be helpful or at least make the job more fun.

I have one for around a year now. It has 3 torque levels and the highest one is "400Nm" but I doubt it is. 250Nm would sound more realistic. In my experience it will remove wheel nuts from most cars, and others it won't, so it's that kind of power. I should really do a torque comparison against a torque wrench to check sometime.
I think it was only £50 when I bought it, but I'd say it's worth the £60, just about. You can buy extra batteries from Lidl too. Only problem I had was the retainer ball dropped out and I lost it, which is a bit of a pain.

So some rusted + overtightened wheel nuts need more than 250Nm (or about that) to remove them?

Might give one a go as I think I would get most of the money back selling it on Ebay lightly used if it's not up to much. Really want a Milwaukee stubby, but cheaping out.

That's a really nice set if you want a full range of shallow and deep sockets and a tray. I just stuck to the shallow sockets as that's what I was after. If I'd included deep sockets, trays or rails and information about socket markings then I'd probably still be writing that post now! :eyecrazy:

I work out on the street so I put my sockets on an Ernst socket rail so it's quick and easy to grab them and take them out to the car. I'm a big fan of these rails. The best way to buy them seems to be to buy the 3 rail kit from Amazon.com.

I'm a big Milwaukee fan but there's no comparison price wise. You could buy 3 of the Parkside kits for the cost of one Milwaukee stubby kit. One M12 6 amp battery alone costs about £52.

The M18 stubby impacts have the same torque rating as the M12s. The advantage is, if you already have M18 batteries then you don't need to start buying new 12 volt batteries. It really depends on what the prices end up being. Best current prices for the M12 stubbies are £99 for the 3/8" and £113.99 for the 1/2"(with code PRODUCT5). The M18 chargers will charge M12 batteries so you don't need a new charger.

For the money it's a gamble worth taking in my opinion as you could easily fetch most of your money back on Ebay or Facebook marketplace.

I would be surprised it it pulls off an axle nut etc (especially one thats not been off before) but if it does 90% of what you need its worth it price wise.

I personally am lazy LOL and don't like breaking things loose by hand and have the Dewalt DCF899. You can pick the kit up in a deal with 1 battery for £150 when on offer (B&Q recently had them at this price). Yes, it is almost 3 times the price of the parkside but I personally haven't come across anything it won't undo.

I had the Milwaukee high torque gun, which was superb but shat itself 2 months ago and Milwaukee refused to warranty it so sold everything Milwaukee and went over to Dewalt. In my opinion, the difference between the Milwaukee and Dewalt impact guns don't justify the price difference between the 2 so I would go Dewalt personally.

I picked up a Parkside impact. Very big and heavy compared to the 12v tools I'm used too. Looking forward to trying it.


Homebase is clearing some Ryobi tools. Looks to be in store only and limited stock. I checked stock on a couple and there were some available close to me. No idea about Ryobi prices so not sure if they are genuine savings.

Although if you order in multiples of 1 the discount is still applied eg. 1 X 400 X 2 = £4.56

re the parkside gun , i dont get the point in having a gun that might get some of the nuts undone , and certainly wont do stuff like hub nuts or cranks , stump up the extra and get one that does the job everytime

theres a reason why the decent ones arent £50-60

I think I agree, but to be fair the Lidl impact is packaged with four sockets that are the common wheel nut sizes, so I assume the set is sold as a tool to remove wheel nuts which it does well enough. Anything more is a bonus.

I ordered a box though, they are only light duty but you don't really get rolling tool cabinets for less anywhere.

I had a Beta C24S/7 which was a lovely box. As dutchgray says these C04BOX ones are more for lighter duty. To quote Beta: "designed for a less demanding public"!

Halfords are doing their 'Advanced 'rollcab for £230 at the moment. It's also 6 drawers of similar width and depth but the Beta box is 10" taller so you can stack a lot more in each drawer.

Keep an eye out and you can pick up boxes second hand at good prices.

I've bought lots of stuff from Zoro but only from the USA website. It is a consumer oriented division of Grainger, a well known industrial seller.

In the USA they have some stuff in stock but a lot of stuff is drop shipped directly from the manufacturer. Stocked or Drop shipped is usually clearly marked.

I think they sometimes get blamed for problems caused by the manufacturer. If there's a delay with a drop ship, that's not really Zoro's fault but they still get blamed.

I've dealt with customer service on a couple orders. Service in the USA is excellent.

I don't know about country specific differences though.

I think 'Sherwood' is Cromwell's own brand. I can only find positive feedback about Sherwood on forums. Obviously not always reliable info. These are inch sizes.

These arrived today. They look and feel solid. No COO on them (unsurprising really). Sizes are stamped, as well as printed (along with the Kennedy name and part number so maybe generic/rebranded). there's nothing to indicate they're actually CrMo aside from the website description so I guess it's take their word for it. I'm not a heavy impact user anyhow so that's not overly important to me.

I'm happy enough with them (I paid £13 shipped from their ebay listing) that I thought I might get some of the missing sizes (15,19,21), but they don't do a 19 or 21, at least on the Zoro site, that I can see, so just a (minor) heads up if you like things that match.

Still a great deal for £13 all-in, so :beer:

Got the Guhring drill bit set. I see it's a little cheaper now at £16.19. Added some wire brushes to get free delivery. I did a bit or reading in forums about drill bits. The consensus is that even the higher regarded brands make varying quality bits at different price levels, so these may not be the best quality bits offered by Guhring. 'Made in Germany' on the box. Cheaper than Stanley though, so they don't have to be brilliant.

Thanks, I've bought the drill set too. Zoro are cheapest for Dremel EX SpeedClic cutting wheels (12 for £9.99) so bought them too.

Amazon have a cheap set of 12 GearWrench 72 tooth ratchet spanners from 8-19mm. Be aware, these seem to be lesser quality than GearWrenches usual stuff. Check the bad reviews on Amazon. However, if you don't have a set then they're worth a punt for £28 as long as you're not going to beat on them. GearWrench 9412BE set £28.32
They also have a couple of returned "as new" sets for £27.75 as well.
